At Work Before We See It #EverydayJesus

Welcome to another week of our Everyday Jesus link-up. Be sure to link-up below this post, comment on your neighbor’s blog and share with your friends… Because Jesus is everywhere, every day!

PS: Just as a heads up, I will be on a “Blogging Vacation” for the next 10 days or so as I am co-facilitating a national conference in Kentucky, then spending some time with family in Kansas. So until then, be blessed!

When things fall apart, it is so, SO easy to start doubting God.

His love. His plan. His purpose.

But if I have learned one thing in my years walking (ok, sometimes barely stumbling) with Jesus, it is that He is always behind the scenes at work long before we see it.

He is like the guy who is the first one to clock in each day and the last one to leave. (Only He doesn’t take vacations or extended lunch breaks.)

I remember an experience from a few years ago where now I see that God was at work, long before we saw it. [Read more…]

Women at Work WoF

The summer I turned 16, I entered the working world… well, at least during the summer.

Since then, I have been blessed/challenged to work in a variety of fields and locations. Some have been amazing, others not so much. Here is a quick taste of my occupational adventures:  [Read more…]

The Best Boss

These three little piggies were “take-home” souvenirs from my first-ever job. Fact #1: Pigs are rarely a profitable undertaking. Fact #2: This is probably the second most unattractive picture ever taken of me. High school was precious.

I jumped head first into the “working world” the summer after turned 16 as a sophomore in High School.

My first ever “real” job was working on a several-thousand head farrow to wean/breeding and gestation swine operation in Minnesota.

It was a trip. (Literally.)

Since that point, I have held several jobs. Some were seasonal, some part-time and some big-kid-post-college-graduation full-time jobs.

With each of those jobs, I had a boss.

Looking back, I would have to say I have had some pretty great supervisors. Folks like Todd, Brenda, Cindy, and Sharon.

But I have also has some not-so-awesome bosses… Who, because I am a Christian and love Jesus, shall remain nameless. (You are welcome, un-named leaders in my life.)  [Read more…]

Creating Margin (Video Blog)

It seems like our world today is almost a competition for who is the busiest, most stressed or who has the most on their plate.

Not. Cool.

I am really not sure how we got to this point, but I am relatively certain that being stressed to the max exhausted with not a millimeter of white space in our calendar was not God’s original plan.

But hey. I am not judging. I still fall into that trap on occasion too… So here is a quick video blog on my thoughts about protecting a bit of white space in our lives as we create margin– for God’s glory.

If you are reading this via email, click here to watch the video.

So… what are your thoughts? Do you have white space in your calendar? Are you honoring God’s margin in your life? If yes, how do you protect it and stay faithful to not running yourself ragged? If not, what do you need to change? Join the conversation by leaving a comment.

As I said in the video, I challenge you to take some time this week and really think about the margin– or lack thereof– in your life. Pray about it and see if you are walking right where you need to be.

Now if you will excuse me– I need a bit of margin with my daughter as we play in the floor and watch an old school episode of 7th Heaven.

Obeying His Margins (ok, most of the time),

Working Overtime

Sundays are said to be a day of rest. I fully believe this. However, it can be a little challenging if you are in ministry.

Oh, and before you count yourself out of this, ALL of us are ministers. If you go to church, serve at church (on Sunday or any other day of the week), serve in your community, or are an active Christian listen up.

Most Sundays, I am up by 6am to get ready for my day. I might serve/work anywhere from 3 to 14 hours at church on any given Sunday. (True story.) But here’s the confession: Sometimes I don’t wanna.

I will give you a second to pick your jaw up off the ground. [Read more…]

Amateurs Wanted: Please Apply

In one of my former jobs, I was the gal who has hired/fired folks. In another job, I was the lady who helped people find jobs, get better jobs or go back to school.

When someone would be interested in a job, we would typically start with a conversation about previous work history, their resume, their skills, etc. We looked for qualifications and attitude. Sometimes it worked out. Other times… Not so much.

Fortunately… God has different standards than most employers. [Read more…]

Operation Fortitude Fitness (Month #4)

Is it just me, or does it seem a little bit crazy that 2012 is already 1/3 of the way completed?!? Apparently time not only flies when you are having fun, but also when you run a personal ministry. (Fortunately, for me, those two are one and the same for me… most days 🙂

April was legit. 7 Days Time Ministry continues to reach new levels (insert happy dance here!) and I feel like I’m kinda sorta getting back on track for my Getting Smart with 2012 goals. (Click here to read the full story from January.) [Read more…]

The Devil’s Copyright

I found Satan yesterday.

No, that’s not a typo. You might have figured out I already found Jesus long ago (hence the Christian blog,) but I met Satan head on yesterday. It. Was. Intense.

You might be curious where I ran into this sneaky literal devil. He was in the copy machine at church. [Read more…]

Gettin’ Dirty

Last week for class (I know, it was a big week of learning!) we were discussing evangelism. In one of our books, “The Art of Personal Evangelism” by William McRaney, he said “dealing with lost people will cause us to get our hands dirty and sweaty just like tending to yard work. Part of evangelism is to clear up the misconceptions and misperceptions people have about the gospel. Dealing with people and evangelism is often messy.” We were charged to react to the statement, and I thought it might be lucrative to close out my “testimony” section of this blog by showing how getting dirty (for others) and allowing Christ to do that with in us could be so incredibly beneficial and rewarding. Look Sharp Out There!

Greetings World O’Technology. I am back. You might have been curious as to where I have been the last couple of days. (Oh wait? You didn’t notice? Well, for the sake of this post, let’s pretend you did 😉 Anywho, I temporarily disappeared. No writing. Minimal productivity for three whole days. And not because I was unmotivated. Not because I didn’t have anything to write about (believe you me, there are enough little thought bubbles floating around in my head for a lifetime of blogposts– quantity vs quality perhaps?) What did I do on my brief sabbatical? I took some time to “Sharpen the Saw.” [Read more…]
