Humorous Vacation Hacks: Army Wife Network

Summer is here, my friends! It’s time for fun in the sun, creating new ways to entertain the kids since they are out of school (#CanYouSaySummerCamp) and of course, vacations.

Now, if you are anything like OUR family, vacations are not, um, as relaxing as they used to be. With a 4-year-old and a 4-month-old, going anywhere for an hour is sometimes level: mission impossible.

But just as we did back around Christmas with Humorous Holiday Hacks #1, #2 and #3, I thought I would expand the experience to “help” with all things summer-getaway.

Now, for your reading enjoyment, we present Humorous Vacation Hacks.

1. I want to take my family on a vacation for summer block leave, but between my husband, kids and myself, we can never agree on a destination. The debates in our household rival the most recent president election shenanigans, so I would rather not deal with the hassle. How can we pick a destination that we can all agree on?

Hack: I think the best thing to do in this situation is just wing it. Planning is overrated, right? And that feeling of just throwing things in the car and hitting the open road, top down, hair blowing in the wind, driving just to see where you end up will no doubt make you feel young again. Of course, you might run into a few snags when you arrive at a potential “destination” with no hotel reservations only to realize that due to a national motor cycle rally there are no hotels available within a two hour radius. But hey– not knowing where you are going it sure to be good training for the “hurry up and wait” experience for your next unknown duty station assignment.

Need more vacation tips– er, I mean laughs? Read more over at Army Wife Network.

Readers, do YOU have any humorous vacation hacks? Which one is your favorite? Comment below.

Now if you will excuse me, I have to go buy an airhorn and NOT pack for family vacation.

A Long-Awaited Vacation

I have been blogging nearly three years.

In those three years, I have only taken more than a day off or so at a time twice: Once when I got crazy sick with pneumonia when I was preggo then last year for a few days when we were moving 4000 miles across the country with a tiny dog and brand-new-baby human.

It’s been an intense yet blessed three years.

So I am finally taking a vacation. For the next two weeks, I shall be hanging out with Jesus (and family) to recharge my brain, heart and typing fingers. [Read more…]

A Brief Lil Breather

Hi friends! Just wanted to let you know…

1. We are still alive.

2. Life is hectic, but blessed.

3. I am taking a brief lil breather from blogging… Don’t worry, it’s only for a few days. (4 blog posts worth… if you don’t count this one.) I won’t be blogging for the next week ish or so,  as we start settling into our new home (and won’t have legit internet connection.) Plus, in the almost two years I have been blogging, I have only taken one blogging vacay, and that was involuntary when I got stupid sick with pneumonia while I was pregnant about this time last year.

Good times. [Read more…]

Unplugged

“Beep, beep, beep… We interrupt this program to bring you special weather announcement. The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the following counties…”

I’m from Kansas. And this little message was heard in our household on a pretty regular basis from the months of March to October. It was old hat to us. We had our routine down.

We would watch the weather, waiting for the radar screen to see just how bad it might get. Once it was confirmed we sprung into action. My sister and brother would barrel out the door to go feed the animals and make sure they have shelter. Mom ran outside to put the cars in the shed, and I usually ended up bringing the laundry in off the line.

It was sweet organized chaos. [Read more…]

A “Sign” Of Faith

Hi there readers! I know, I know… It’s Friday and you don’t see the Five Minute Friday link-up logo… I am actually “unplugged” from all things technological for a few days to vacay with my beloved, so I’m not able to do the typical Five Minute Friday link up. (Even Jesus writers need a break, right?)

Instead, I want to challenge you to do your OWN Five Minute Friday– No, you don’t have to write anything. Instead, take just five minutes to reflect/pray/think on the following picture… It is a sweet sign that my wonderful Mother-in-Love Lex gave me a few months ago. It sits in my kitchen, right on my window sill. I read it everyday and it brings such hope to my heart. [Read more…]

From Cluttered to Clean

Woooowwwweeee! I had a wild and crazy weekend folks.

That’s right, I spent  Friday and Saturday cleaning my house. Such a rebel rouser in my old age, huh? Actually, cleaning might be an understatement. I think “scouring” or “OCD organizing” might be more appropriate descriptions. (Um, I didn’t think nesting started for a few months yet? Holy cow.) [Read more…]

No Panic Needed

My beloved and I just returned from a four-day anniversary mini-vacay in the North Georgia mountains. Ahhhhhhhhh….

First of all, it was awesome. Nature is cool. Mountains are legit (not many of those in Kansas where I come from.) The cabin we stayed in was cozy. And our baby dog Justus behaved (it was his first overnight road trip.)

That being said– we have left what we like to call “pretend-land” and returned to reality. I have heard many folks say “I love to travel, but I hate the moment that I arrive home.” I have to admit, I used to be one of those people, easily overwhelmed by the TO DO list waiting at my doorstep the minute I check out of pretendland.  Time to hit the PANIC BUTTON!!! But not anymore. [Read more…]
