Be Still: Too Easy? RIGHT. #WilcoWednesday

7 Days Time

Welcome to Wilco Wednesday! If you are a new around these parts, “Wilco” is Army-speak for “Will Comply.” Think of it as saying “Roger, God. Got it. Will do.”  So that is what Wednesday here at 7 Days Time is all about– exploring his decrees and seeking guidance for what complying with Him looks like in everyday life. The best part? He loves us for who we are, not what we do.  Remember: He doesn’t want perfection, just obedience. Share. Enjoy. Interact. Let’s welcome this strong, creative woman of God, Katharina as she shares her heart this week.

I was on my weekly run when I was “writing” a mental to-do-list of all the projects and chores that I needed to accomplish this week. Unexpectedly, I had a small panic attack. My heart started to beat fast and I was not able to breathe. I tried to calm myself down by walking and taking deep breaths when I heard God’s voice saying, “Be still, my daughter, and know that I am God. Be still in me for I am walking beside you, holding your right hand in mine. I am always with you and I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be still in me.”

His words washed over me like a cool and gentle rain shower in the spring time. I was getting calmer and calmer with every step I took, until I was back home.

Be StillToday, I am thankful for this small panic attack. It showed me who is really in control in my life and I do not need to be involved in so many projects just to feel accepted and recognized. It is easier for me to stay busy than to be still and relax in God’s presence. “Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law.” ~Psalm 119:109

Be still, be still and know that I am God.

How well do you know your spouse, your children, your parents, your co-workers or your friends? How well do we know God? Psalm 103:3 says “Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.”

Sadly, I do not know God as my Father as well enough as He knows me as His daughter. He created me in my mother’s womb. He wrote my whole life, every little moment, in the book of life, even the moment when I was running and thinking about all my projects. He knew about it as well as what I needed at that moment – to hear His sweet and gentle voice.

How can we develop a closer relationship with our heavenly Father and learn more about Him? Here are some suggestions:

First, study the bible and see what His word says about His character and who He is as our heavenly Father. Here are some examples of God’s name and His character:

  • The Lord My Rock – Yahweh Tsuri (Psalm 18:2)
  • The God who Sees – El Roi (Genesis 16:13)
  • Father, Abba (2 Corinthians 6:18)
  • The Giver of Good Gifts (James 1:17)

Secondly, ask the Holy Spirit to help you highlight passages that describe God’s character and personality to you.

Lastly, how do you develop a relationship with your spouse, your friends, and your children? Perhaps your answers include things like spending quality time with each other, getting to know them, talking, having fun, etc. This is same way God your heavenly Father wants to spend time with you!

How can we learn to be still from the inside, even when our world spins? I am learning to be still and it is an everyday struggle. Sometimes, I even need to drop everything and go into my prayer closet to be still for just five minutes and to listen to His voice.

How do you find stillness in your life? Join the conversation and leave a comment below.

P.E.A.C.E: Pause Expectantly At the Cross Everyday

I am grateful for technology.

Sure, this wired world of ours has some drawbacks– the temptation to be constantly distracted, being “not present,” or additional frustration when the technology we are relying on fails us.  But overall, technology is primarily a blessing.

Especially since a lot of my ministry is online. And because I have a toddler.

Being a work-at-home-mom is a challenge. I am so thankful that I have flexibility to do God’s work mostly in our home, but the pull of parenting/all-the-other-Jesusy-things causes me to constantly question my priorities. [Read more…]

This is the fourth consecutive year that God has called me to choose a “One Word” to focus on for 12 whole months.

And while this word totally makes sense for me, this very well could be the most challenging yet.

In 2012, He called me to TRUST.

2013, I needed to STAND.

Last year in 2014, was all about GROW.

And now, a seasonal culmination of all my One Word journey in 2015: REST. [Read more…]

Long story short:

I hold many different roles in life: wife, mama, minister, friend, aspiring runner, etc.

I am also what many might deem an “overachiever.” (I have talked about why it is ok just to ‘chieve before.)

But you put those roles and my personality together… And it can be a rather dangerous combination.

Not just for our sanity and schedule, but also for my personal relationship with God.

Check out today’s video blog to see how God spoke to me in one of my alleged “failures.” [Read more…]

I am a dreamer.

Not la-dee-da-head-in-the-clouds unfocused dreamer, but a dreamer that loves envisioning new milestones in life and accomplishing goals.

I love the feeling of flying high when I reach a seemingly impossible dream. You know the feeling. On-top-of-the-world-shout-it-from-the-rooftops kind of joy.

Dreaming is fun. Encouraging. Uplifting. And if our dreams bring glory to God (which most of them should), dreaming is a holy experience.

We might think that when we fall short of our dreams that it is a completely heartbreaking, negative experience.

But believe it or not, not reaching our dreams can also be a holy experience. [Read more…]

A Long-Awaited Vacation

I have been blogging nearly three years.

In those three years, I have only taken more than a day off or so at a time twice: Once when I got crazy sick with pneumonia when I was preggo then last year for a few days when we were moving 4000 miles across the country with a tiny dog and brand-new-baby human.

It’s been an intense yet blessed three years.

So I am finally taking a vacation. For the next two weeks, I shall be hanging out with Jesus (and family) to recharge my brain, heart and typing fingers. [Read more…]

Creating Margin (Video Blog)

It seems like our world today is almost a competition for who is the busiest, most stressed or who has the most on their plate.

Not. Cool.

I am really not sure how we got to this point, but I am relatively certain that being stressed to the max exhausted with not a millimeter of white space in our calendar was not God’s original plan.

But hey. I am not judging. I still fall into that trap on occasion too… So here is a quick video blog on my thoughts about protecting a bit of white space in our lives as we create margin– for God’s glory.

If you are reading this via email, click here to watch the video.

So… what are your thoughts? Do you have white space in your calendar? Are you honoring God’s margin in your life? If yes, how do you protect it and stay faithful to not running yourself ragged? If not, what do you need to change? Join the conversation by leaving a comment.

As I said in the video, I challenge you to take some time this week and really think about the margin– or lack thereof– in your life. Pray about it and see if you are walking right where you need to be.

Now if you will excuse me– I need a bit of margin with my daughter as we play in the floor and watch an old school episode of 7th Heaven.

Obeying His Margins (ok, most of the time),

A Four-Letter-Word (Guest Blog)

The room was dark. All was quiet. But my mind was swirling… Various items of my “To Do” list were zipping through my head… Unpack boxes. Call the Internet company. Paint. Hang Curtains. Blog. Make the weekly menu. Update Budget.

My heart started to race and a sinking feeling of panic overtook me. There was no way sleep was coming any time soon. But then suddenly… I heard His Voice… [Read more…]

A Brief Lil Breather

Hi friends! Just wanted to let you know…

1. We are still alive.

2. Life is hectic, but blessed.

3. I am taking a brief lil breather from blogging… Don’t worry, it’s only for a few days. (4 blog posts worth… if you don’t count this one.) I won’t be blogging for the next week ish or so,  as we start settling into our new home (and won’t have legit internet connection.) Plus, in the almost two years I have been blogging, I have only taken one blogging vacay, and that was involuntary when I got stupid sick with pneumonia while I was pregnant about this time last year.

Good times. [Read more…]

Working Overtime

Sundays are said to be a day of rest. I fully believe this. However, it can be a little challenging if you are in ministry.

Oh, and before you count yourself out of this, ALL of us are ministers. If you go to church, serve at church (on Sunday or any other day of the week), serve in your community, or are an active Christian listen up.

Most Sundays, I am up by 6am to get ready for my day. I might serve/work anywhere from 3 to 14 hours at church on any given Sunday. (True story.) But here’s the confession: Sometimes I don’t wanna.

I will give you a second to pick your jaw up off the ground. [Read more…]
