The God-Mother Complex

It’s no secret that being a mother is one cool gig.

It’s also no secret that it is sometimes the hardest job on the planet.

As you (probably) know, we welcomed a new Tiny Human into the world almost three months ago. Time has flown– and honestly, I’m not really sad about it. (I will pause as you gasp and say, “Oh, treasure these days, for they go so fast,” etc.)

Nope. I like it when my kids start getting a little bit older and more “stable,” i.e., I don’t feel like I am going to break him every time I touch him. And the better sleeping habits too. Let’s not forget that.

During the last three months of night-feedings, I have had a lot of time to think. And pray.

And I’m sure it’s just me, but if I think too much, it can quickly turn into worry. [Read more…]

The Same Power #WilcoWednesday

Welcome to Wilco Wednesday! If you are a new around these parts, “Wilco” is Army-speak for “Will Comply.” Think of it as saying “Roger, God. Got it. Will do.”  So that is what Wednesday here at 7 Days Time is all about– exploring his decrees and seeking guidance for what complying with Him looks like in everyday life. The best part? He loves us for who we are, not what we do.  Remember: He doesn’t want perfection, just obedience. Share. Enjoy. Interact. And let’s respond to God’s call with  a hearty “Wilco, Lord!” Welcome my new friend and PWOC sister Lisa  as she gives us a perspective we ALL need.

We have been here at Joint Base Lewis McChord for almost 2 months now. And we still don’t have our household goods.

I know our situation is not necessarily unique among Army families, but it is new to me. The temptation to whine and complain is quite strong and there are moments when I give in to that temptation. However, there are also shining moments of lessons learned, encouragement, and humility. [Read more…]

21 Truths: God is Absolute

I remember those argumentative moments like they were yesterday.

It didn’t matter what the topic was, it always ended the same. Whether I was 5-years-old begging for a cookie before supper or a teenager asking to stay out late on a school night or even in college asking for who-knows-what, after a barrage of “why’s” or “why nots” from my end, the conversations with my loving parents almost always ended the same:

“BECAUSE I SAID SO!” [Read more…]

Everyday Jesus: God Cares for Our Basic Needs

Welcome to another edition of our guest post blogging series “Everyday Jesus!” Today’s guest blogger, Laura, is one of my great online gal-pals… Her writing is an inspiration– and today’s post is absolutely no exception! Be sure to show sweet Laura some love– both here at 7 Days Time and over at her place by leaving a comment. (Hint, hint, wink, wink…)

Have you ever noticed that everything seems worse when you’re tired or hungry?

Think about it. You might not be having the best day, but it’s not awful. And then, as you go from meeting to meeting or run errands, you miss lunch. And what happens? You get cranky. Maybe a headache comes on. You lose your patience with co-workers or your kids. And your day has gone from bad to worse.

This was me a few weeks ago, but not because I missed lunch.

I did something to my back, although I don’t really know what. One minute I was fine. The next minute I sat down for dinner, and I felt something slip out-of-place. It was painful, but not awful. [Read more…]

You just gotta ask yourself…

Sometimes you just gotta ask yourself: “How can I BEST represent Jesus in this situation?”

Kinda sounds like the old WWJD trend, right? (Who has a bracelet? You know what I’m talking about.)

But seriously– we sometimes find ourselves in super sticky situations that really seems to have no productive solution. I found myself in that very place a couple of weeks ago. I was genuinely stumped and my heart was torn.

Fortunately for me, it was prayer week at church. [Read more…]

Treasure in Jars of… Salsa??

Today, I would like to provide you with a practical, real-life lesson and application:

How to Semi-Effectively Clean Up A Smashed Jar of Salsa

1. Take a deep breath, close your eyes and say a silent prayer for the Lord to forgive you of the very loud and prominent obscenity you just yelled as you watched your new quart jar of homemade salsa crash onto the floor.

2. Shuffle the pup out of doors so he is not inclined to “help” with clean up.

3. Put on shoes as to avoid glass shards in the feet.

4. Clean up the glassy salsa with whatever tools you have available (might I recommend: An old dust pan and empty Diet Dr. Pepper box) [Read more…]

The Gloves are Coming off: FIGHT BACK!

“LADIES & GENTLEMEN…(gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen…)

WELCOME…(welcome, welcome, welcome…)

TO THE  FIGHT (Fight, fight, fight…)

OF THE CENTURY!!!!!”

I took a boxing class my senior year of college (my 5th year at KSU.) It wasn’t because I aspired to be in the ring, listening to the announcer’s echo of my mad skills as I faced my opponent. Nor did I plan to learn how to properly punch people who annoyed me. I took the boxing class because I was a 5th year senior and it was an excellent alternative to any “real” class I might have to take… like biochemistry. Yeah, no thanks. [Read more…]

We have… A Power Shortage

The house was pitch black. Dad woke me for school, but I was less than excited to get out of bed… Our house was freezing! It was a the winter of my sophomore year of high school… and after experiencing an ice storm that produced over three inches of ice the previous week, we were going on day ten without power. Pitch black. Cold. Awesome.

I stumbled out of bed and quickly pulled on my costume. Yes, I said costume. I was part of the one-act play “Anybody for Tea” and had to be dressed and ready to perform upon arrival at school. My character was an old quirky woman, so apparently I played the part well… I pulled on my fuzzy socks, grabbed some breakfast and ran out the door. [Read more…]

A Little Needy

Here’s a list of things I “need” on any given day:

I need… a nap.

I need… a break.

I need… a foot rub.

I need… motivation.

I need… more moolah. [Read more…]

Never Say Never

If I’ve learned one thing about being a Christian, it is to never say never.

I know it says in the Bible not to test the Lord, but it seems that nearly every time in my life I said “never!” God sat up there watching, laughed and said “Wanna bet, my beloved?”

I would like to think that I am prime example of this “Never Say Never” theory. I can’t recall all of the times in my life that I have said “Never…” then a few moments, days, months or years later, BAM– God had SUCH a different plan.

Still unsure? Let’s take a quick look at my “nevers” that have since become “nows” “YES” or “always.” [Read more…]
