In a past life, I used to get bent out of shape pretty easy. And by past life, I mean like 36 seconds ago.

Yes, I admit it– I am what many would deem “high-strung.” I don’t know if it my achieving nature (sometimes dangerous) or my perfectionist tendencies (always dangerous) but it doesn’t take much to send me reeling.

One minute I can be basking in a metaphorical tub of peace and the next I am gasping for breath as the waters of worry attempt to overtake me.

Fortunately, God has brought me a long way in this journey. And because I love you, I want to share my latest tool that has helped me freak out less and rest more. [Read more…]

Celebrating Everyday Army Miracle Moments

Army Celebrate_FotorIf you have been an army wife for more than 35 seconds, you have probably already discovered that this crazy ride is, well, crazy.

Somedays it makes us happier than a five-year-old at Christmas… then a few moments later, we crumble into big, smoldering pile of ugly-crying heartbreak.

It can be exhausting, I tell you. In my personal journey as a wife of my beloved infantry man, my emotions have stretched enthusiastic optimistic to Debbie-Downer pessimistic of epic proportions. [Read more…]

The Great But Reversal (#EverydayJesus Link-Up)

If you made it past the title of this post, congratulations.

Now, take courage and keep reading.

“The Great But Reversal.” No friends, it isn’t some new snazzy dance move where we back that thang up. Nor is it the next Charlie Brown movie. However, it is a very powerful and influential concept that can change our thinking in a matter of seconds.

Consider how many times we use that sneaky preposition “but” in a single day.

I really should go for a run… but it is cold outside.

I need to go to the grocery store… but this couch is so comfy.

Yeah, yeah, I should apologize… but she started it.

You see what I am getting at? It is a great excuse maker. A lot of power in that little three-letter word. [Read more…]

Embrace the Suck (Repost)

Hi friends… For the next few weeks, Wednesdays will be dedicated to re-sharing some of my favorite posts. I am so blessed to be working on some “big rocks” and pretty awesome God-sized dreams, but I need time to make that happen. So after much prayer, here we are. I pray you enjoy these words… And thanks for extending me Christ-like grace. Oh. And everything is still business as usual for our Thursday #EverydayJesus link-up, so don’t miss it!

Sometimes, life sucks.

Yeah, I said it. And yeah, I said it on a Jesus-loving Christian blog.

But its the truth. Sometimes life sucks.

We live in a world of pain. Of hurt. Of disease. Of evil. Of hard circumstances. Of moments where we wonder how the heck we are supposed to continue to function.

“Sucky” things in life range from the seemingly small and trivial (I lost my stupid wallet– again!) to the painfully large and unexplainable (Acts of terrorism. War. Violence. Etc.)

So yeah, it’s the truth. Sometimes life really just kinda sucks. [Read more…]

Video Blog: God’s Perspective

Today’s Take-Home Message:

Sometimes we are too close to see things clearly.

Sounds a bit counterintuitive, but it is so true. Check out today’s video blog for a little somethin’ somethin’ on how to step back and see life through God’s perspective.  [Read more…]

The Best Boss

129271483859284681

These three little piggies were “take-home” souvenirs from my first-ever job. Fact #1: Pigs are rarely a profitable undertaking. Fact #2: This is probably the second most unattractive picture ever taken of me. High school was precious.

I jumped head first into the “working world” the summer after turned 16 as a sophomore in High School.

My first ever “real” job was working on a several-thousand head farrow to wean/breeding and gestation swine operation in Minnesota.

It was a trip. (Literally.)

Since that point, I have held several jobs. Some were seasonal, some part-time and some big-kid-post-college-graduation full-time jobs.

With each of those jobs, I had a boss.

Looking back, I would have to say I have had some pretty great supervisors. Folks like Todd, Brenda, Cindy, and Sharon.

But I have also has some not-so-awesome bosses… Who, because I am a Christian and love Jesus, shall remain nameless. (You are welcome, un-named leaders in my life.)  [Read more…]

God Is My Life

How much God is there in your life?

It’s a hard and rather loaded question. I would love to answer that God is 110% of my life, but while He IS a big part, He is just that… A part.

I am on a constant journey to make God my entire life. The reason for living. For getting up in the morning.

I want God to BE MY LIFE.  [Read more…]

Appreciate the Mountaintop

Sometimes I really take God for granted. Perhaps you do to.

Just think about how many times we nearly forget about God when things are going great then fall to our knees when our world comes crashing down.

If we aren’t grounded in faith all the time then those hard moments can turn into griping and grumbling sessions instead of petitions for help. I think there is a delicate yet very attainable balance we can reach with just a small shift of our perspective. [Read more…]

Home is Where Jesus Calls You

You’ve probably heard your share of “homey” quotes…

“Home is where the heart is.” “Home Sweet Home.” “Home is where you hang your hat.” “There’s no place like home” (Wizard of Oz, what, what!)

Ah, home. It conjures up all sorts of apple-pie-wafting, couch-snuggling, T.G.I.F sitcom watching (does anybody else remember the T.G.I.F television programming?) images of joy. [Read more…]

If God Wasn’t in Charge…

Fact: If God wasn’t in charge of this world, we would be in a whole heap of trouble.

Heck. God IS in charge of this world and it still seems like nothing but pain and sorrow.

Specifically on days like Monday when the news broke of the shooting in the Washington Naval Yard. My feelings were all over the place, both questioning and affirming my faith (at the same time if that’s possible.) [Read more…]
