Hey all. Long time no write.

Well actually, that’s not completely true. I should be more specific: Long time not writing on this blog. In the last year I’ve done a boatload of writing, but most was in the form of doctoral papers for my PhD.

And trust me. As interesting as I personally think Robert Enright’s Forgiveness Counseling Model and Community Psychology 30+ page papers are, I highly doubt you want to read that. (If you follow 7 Days Time Facebook Page, you might notice I have been doing some writing and engaging over there, even though the blog has been quiet… Although figuring out the ever-changing Facebook methods and algorithms practically requires a daily act of the Lord Jesus Himself…)

But yes. It was a season of… well, just not blogging here at 7 Days Time. My days have been plenty full with PhD classes, learning how to parent two Tiny Humans at once and also embracing the season of “sheeping” instead of shepherding.

So let’s catch up. In the last year or so since consistently writing on the blog…

I’ve started working toward my doctorate of Education in Pastoral Care and Counseling. (Eight classes down, I don’t know how many plus the dissertation to go. Call me in like 4 years for all your counseling needs).

My kiddos (of course) continue to grow. Our girl is now getting ready to head to kindergarten in about a month and constantly says things that either convict me out or make me laugh. (I think I’m going to start sharing some on my blog, if for no other purposes than to have ammo for high school graduation and wedding toast embarrassment).

Our son is about 17-months-old and like to eat/destroy all the things, not necessarily in that order. He is so laid back and I can’t wait to share more life lessons he is teaching me daily too!

I think in my time of sheeping, hubs broke his leg (jumping out of a helicopter), tore a ligament in his wrist (after landing in a tree after jumping out of a different helicopter), and pulled a muscle in his leg which resulted in a hematoma (playing football for army PT– because, of course). Oh, and he recently discovered that Texas cactus thorns will actually go through a cow hide army boot. And by the grace of God, he was able to dig out a half-inch-thorn from his calf… With an X-acto knife. (Glad we avoided a trip to the ER, but geez). I’m not sure if being an army wife keeps me young or ages me prematurely.

Hubs is fine, still a “physical specimen” (his words, not mine) and a red-blooded-barrel-chested-freedom-fighter (also his words). I promise he isn’t accident prone, it was just a weird season as a ranger instructor in Georgia. (He also recently got promoted to First Sergeant, so that’s a whole different army animal!) Oh, and speaking of Texas cactus thorns… we recently relocated to the desert per military orders.

After receiving orders to Alaska (and shouting it from the rooftops because it was a our #1 duty station choice!) then having those same orders fall through a few weeks later (and me ugly crying for like 3 hours– it was lovely) and then receiving new orders to Fort Bliss, Texas… Here we are. And we love it! God most certainly has a purpose for us here and I simply cannot wait to share #AllTheThings with you in a future blog post.

Oh, and one more big thing that has changed. A year ago this month, I finally got up the courage to talk to my doc about my anxiety. I had been working on conquering it for years by myself through prayer and various spiritual (and earthly) disciplines, but when I had my first-ever panic attack when our 5-month-old baby got bronchitis, I knew something had to change.

And now, thanks to a low dose of daily meds and some counseling, I am more joyful and peaceful than I’ve ever been in my life. (Again, I will be sharing MUCH more about all that in future posts). I’ve also been pressing forward in my fitness journey, in which God is totally blowing my mind. Do work, Lord!

So. That was a crash course of the last 12 months of life in the Knobloch household. I’m glad to be back and sharing this journey with you. I pray it encourages, edifies, and empowers you on a regular basis.

Let’s get pumped up to once again be serious about faith, light-hearted about life!

All for His Glory,

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” ~Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV

In the words of the late Paul Harvey, today it is time for “The Rest of the Story.”

The last couple of months, we have been talking about Reasons for Milspouse pride. (Need to catch up? Check out Part 1 and Part 2.)

So now, we present our final chapter of:

I am a proud military spouse when…

“I’m proud to be a military spouse when I tell a friend who isn’t military that we are an army family and they thank me for our service! “ ~Tiffany H.

“I am a proud military spouse when I see how excited my sons get when their daddy walks through the door, especially after long trainings and deployments!” ~Ericka L.

“I am a proud military spouse as I think of my late husband, a medic for 20 years in the Army, who loved was he was doing and wanted to make a difference. I miss him daily .” ~Sabine W.

“I am a proud military wife every time my husband puts on his military uniform. However, I am EXTREMELY proud to be a military wife when those hanger doors open after a long deployment and all the soldiers (mine included) come marching in the door. That feeling is a feeling that I can not explain but it is awesome and yet overwhelming all at once! Lots of emotions. Anyone that has experienced a homecoming will know what I am talking about. To see those heroes standing in front of us and knowing that they did a job well done and have returned….there is no other feeling!” ~Tiffany L.

“I am proud to be a military spouse when I help other military spouses navigate the ins and outs of this lifestyle and help make things a little easier and better for them.” ~Juliann F.

Want more? Read the rest of our reasons to be proud over at Army Wife Network. (Trust me… Between that and the cool monthly giveaway, you won’t be sorry.)

Some people say that there can be “too much of a good thing.”

I *might* agree with this statement if talking about rich cheeses, excessive exercise or Netflix binge watching.

But I just can’t agree that there is ever such a “thing” as too much military spouse pride.

You might remember that last month I shared the first installment of our series “Reasons from Milspouse Pride.”

As promised, today we share Part 2…. Brought to the generous and loving hearts of military spouses and viewers like you.

Read on to see more ways that…

I am a proud military spouse when…

“I am proud to be a military spouse when I can smell the dirt from the field as he walks through the door because that means we both survived another round of training.” ~Lacey R.

“I am a proud military spouse when my husband is thanked for his service. It doesn’t happen much because we live in a very military saturated place.” ~Lisa H.

“I’m proud to be a military spouse when I see my husband in his dress uniform. He wore his blues at our wedding in 1994, and it always makes me happy and proud to see him in them again. He’s been through a lot in his career, and each of those ribbons and pins shows how much he loves being a soldier and serving his country. And he looks so handsome in his blues, too!” ~Christie P.

“I was the proudest military wife when I seen my husband walking down the airport corridor at the end of his deployment and could see the look on his face, meeting his son for the first time.” ~Nikki H.

Dear readers…there is MUCH more where this came from! (And did we mention this post also includes a link-up and easy-t0-enter giveaway?) Swing by Army Wife Network to tap into some more milspouse pride and enter to win!

As I write this post, I am sitting in the recliner with my feet up. My smallish dog is nestled beside me, my arms are stretched out farther than they have ever been before as my “belly dances” and I mentally calculate how long I have until it’s my daily “power nap time.”

Yep. You guessed it. I’m pregnant. The State of the Uterus is very much occupied.

I am at the point in this pregnancy that no longer classifies as a “little bit” pregnant. I am really pregnant. Like middle-rapidly-approaching-end-of- third-trimester pregnant.

It’s our second kiddo, so we are excited (and less terrified than the first time we did this…) Although my preggo brain is not nearly as sharp as it used to be, lately I have been thinking about how the whole experience of pregnancy is like being a military spouse… because really, who doesn’t love a good analogy?

So, here are my slightly blurry (though hopefully amusing) thoughts on how pregnancy is like being a military spouse.

1. Both pregnancy and military wife life impact your sleep habits.

It’s amazing how something so small in our bodies can impact something so important like sleep. If you have ever been pregnant (or know someone who has) then the whole beautiful experience throws sleep schedules right out the window. Just the other night, I rolled over (while making more sounds than a hippopotamus trying to learn to fly) and I woke up because I literally heard my hip(s) pop.

Not surprisingly, military spouse life also throws a bit of kink in our sleep habits. Maybe it’s our spouse coming home at 0100 because someone in his company made what I call a “bad life decision.” Or it is the phone ringing at 0215 on New Years Eve to inform our spouse of the same reason above. It could be that our spouse is working nights for a while, in the field, has a 12 mile ruck to do the next day which requires a 0330 first call… And of course, let’s not forget during deployments or TDYs, when we will wake up at all hours of the night just to Facetime or Skype with the spouse we miss so much.
