Seriously, Lord?!?

Ever have one of those days where all you really can do is stare at the ceiling and say, “Seriously, Lord!?!”

I do. Rather frequently, in fact.

These “Seriously, Lord” days are not exceptionally bad. Or tragic. Or earth shattering. But they generally fall into the category of frustrating and the only thing left is for us to just take a deep breath as we let it go.

I had one of these days a few weeks ago. [Read more…]

Practicing What We Preach: Forgiveness

We all have to deal with it.

Releasing it brings freedom, only good things come from experiencing it, but sometimes we refuse to submit and we cling to it like a two-year-old hoarding a piece of candy.

Forgiveness. I have forgotten the number of times I have unofficially coached people to dig deep and forgive someone.

Here at 7 Days Time, it has been quite the topic for discussion. We have an entire page in our Scripture Library dedicated to forgiveness. We have multiple blogs about forgiving ourselves, finding the faith to forgive, and even forgiving in the little, tiny, everyday moments.

Funny thing is, as much as I preach it and write about it, God still places this forgiveness issue on my own heart. [Read more…]

When the Burden Gets Too Heavy (#EverydayJesus Linkup)

Welcome to another week of our Everyday Jesus link-up. Be sure to link-up below this post, comment on your neighbor’s blog and share with your friends… Because Jesus is everywhere, every day!

***

I have always prided myself in being strong.

Not only physically and emotionally, but now as I walk with Jesus, also spiritually. But sometimes the burdens of this life just become too much.

It comes in spurts. Someone gets sick. An unexpected bill shows up. Schedules change. Plans get derailed. More and more yucky stuff of this world shows up in our own lives (and even as prayer requests.)

Sometimes it is enough not to just break our back from trying to carry it all, but also it breaks our heart from our attempts to bear it alone.

That is why God gave us Jesus in our everyday. [Read more…]

Series Intro: Practicing what we Preach

It is SO easy to talk the talk.

Believe me, I know. I am an auctioneer, an extrovert AND a Christian.

Talking is totally my jam.

But the challenge comes when we are called not to talk the talk but also walk the walk.

The inability to do just that is one of the main reasons why people shy away from “religion,” or specifically Christianity.

From my experience, many nonbelievers are nonbelievers because they feel like the “church” is filled with hypocrites.

And do you know what? They are right. [Read more…]

More than A Motto

You might have noticed that in this current season,  Wednesdays are my days to work toward some super-awesome God-sized dreams. So here is a blast from the past straight from the archives. Enjoy, dear friends… and thanks for the grace.

It’s Pop Quiz Wednesday! (Wait, don’t go… this will be easy, I promise.)

Quick… Name the company that goes with the following mottos/slogans:

1. “Just Do It.”

2. “Finger lickin’ Good.”

3. “It’s Everywhere you want to be.”

 4. “Can you hear me now?”

5. “I’m loving it.”

Got your answers? [Read more…]

Through the Thorns (And Past the Spiders)

This just in…

Life is not easy.

Ok, that statement is far from a breaking story. If you have been on earth for more than 6 minutes, you have probably lived this truth first hand.

We live in a fallen world that involves pain, suffering, unanswered questions, and some downright sorrowful moments.

But here’s the thing: Although we live in a messy, gross, sinful world, it is GOD’S world. And His world is what I like to call a Romans 8:28 world.

“God works all things for good for those who love him and are called according to His purpose.” [Read more…]

Video Blog: Hitting the Mark

Target

We all live for something.

Hopefully, that “something” is God. But sometimes, we get a little bit distracted.

It is rarely intentional and happens over time. Then one day, hypothetically speaking, we are supposed to go for an 11-mile run and Jesus says WHOA.

Totally hypothetical, of course.

Without our knowledge, we have somehow let our compass drift and are a bit off target.

If you find yourself in this place, don’t despair– God will get us there. [Read more…]

A Walk Through the Parables: The Narrow Way

A Walk through the parablesMy daughter has a knack for squeezing into places she shouldn’t.

She climbs under our kitchen chair then freaks out when she gets “trapped” between the four legs.

She squishes between the desk and file cabinet, then squalls for help when she tries to exit a different way.

She attempts to dismount a chair through the back and then hollers when her head won’t fit through without turning it a specific direction.

There are a lot of tight, narrow spots that she can get stuck… And believe it or not, us adults can get stuck too.

Not in narrow places, but in the wide, open spaces of complacency and procrastination.  [Read more…]

Stay In Step

“TTWWWWWEEEEEETTTTT!!”

Click, click, click, click… “One, two, three, four…”

Oh, the glory days of marching band. Now, before you start the cracks about being a band nerd, know that my high school was kinda tiny. Tiny like I graduated with 18 people in my class. And had about 80 people in our entire high school.

Which meant you were either in the band… Or you weren’t. (And seriously– who really wanted to go to an extra study hall? Pshaw.) [Read more…]

Trust in His Timing (#EverydayJesus)

Trust in TimingI’ve heard it said on numerous occasions in a variety of settings…

Time is relative.

That might be true, but all time is valuable. And all time is from God.

Ask someone who narrowly avoided a car accident how precious they find one second .

The length of one minute depends on which side of the bathroom door you are standing.  [Read more…]
