Raising the Stakes

At the very beginning of 2012, God chose my “word” for me to live out for the year. That word was “DEPENDENCE.”

It has been now been 80 days. What started as a seemingly simple challenge has blossomed into a literal life-changing experience.

In the past 80 days, God has put the following events into our lives… ALL of which have drastically built my dependence on Him: [Read more…]

Even Though…

God’s plan is perfect… Even though it can hurt like hell.

Last Wednesday, we lost the baby.

This is something I would not wish on anyone. I have never experienced so many emotions coupled with shock, denial and utter exhaustion in my entire life. [Read more…]

Pumping Iron with Jesus

“Ninety-eight…ninety-nine… one-hundred!”

Oh hey. Didn’t see you there. Sorry, I was just working out… you know, pumping some iron, getting in shape. (Does that sound a little too much like Will Ferrell in Anchorman?)

Obviously, I am not pumping iron… but instead am clicking keys. At a pretty rapid pace, I might add. But I didn’t get to this typing speed overnight. [Read more…]

Peace by Piece

Sometimes you have to be knocked down to get your balance. Or perhaps you need to be broken into pieces before you experience real peace.

I love it when God reveals concepts in a new and fresh way… which is exactly what happened to me last week.

My emotions, fears, hopes, feelings have been all over the board in the last couple of weeks. But during my quiet time last Thursday, God gave me a revelation that literally changed my life.

The amount of peace in your life is directly proportionate to the extent in which you trust God. [Read more…]

Regain your Breath

Ever had the wind knocked out of you?

I am going to guess that the answer to that one is probably yes. It might have been the physical wind knocked out of your lungs… Like when you, as a 2nd grader, thought that jumping from the low bar to the high bar on the jungle gym at recess was a brilliant idea. Next thing you know, you are flat on your back on the ground, staring at the sky gasping for breath. [Read more…]

Handle with Prayer

Life can be distracting.

Life can be overwhelming.
Life can be stressful.
Life can be uncertain.

Any of these statements apply to you today? Then read on, dear friend. HOW do we function daily, putting first things first, without going off the deep end?

Some might say they flip the “Don’t Care” switch. (It works, but probably not the healthiest option.)  Others might consume copious amounts of chocolate. (Again… great theory, might not be super healthy.)  Still others retreat into a shell, shutting out the world. [Read more…]

Christ in a Cow Pasture: The REST of the Story…

Seventeen days ago, I had the opportunity to lead my beloved Dad to Christ (In case you missed it, get the whole story here. It’s a pretty awesome recount of God’s love and power!)

So today, in the words of the late Paul Harvey… Here is the REST of the story.

First, a little background: since October of 2008, my Dad has been struggling with his health. Up until that point, he had been in ok physical condition, minus the extremely random heart attack at age 45 when I was a senior in high school (but again, that is another post.) Anyway, on Halloween night 2008, I got a call from my mom that they were taking my Dad to the ER for “nerve issues.” I can’t remember all of the symptoms, but we were concerned. [Read more…]

Patience is…

Patience is…

Annoying? Impossible? Frustrating? A struggle? A virtue?

Pretty sure my opinion of “patience” has covered all of these descriptors– and more. I have never been a very patient person (Ahem, see yesterday’s post…)

Seriously, as a little girl, I didn’t just want things to happen now, I wanted them to happen yesterday… HURRY UP! The most dreaded words coming out of my Mama’s mouth (then and to this day) rivaled “Wait until your father gets home” in the form of “You are just going to have to wait and see…” followed by “Patience is a virtue.” [Read more…]

Squeaky Clean & Lemony fresh

My house is *currently* clean.  Please excuse me for one moment as I do a happy dance.

Ok, I’m back. I don’t really like to clean. Seriously, ask prior roommates (Kally Hood-Smith, specifically) and they will back me up on this one.  I mean, I will TRY to keep a slight handle on the clutter and do dishes often enough to avoid growing anything fuzzy in my sink, but as far as deep cleaning, I really need an outside reason to make it happen. Thanks to being brought up by my wonderful mama, my motivation is found when “company is coming.” [Read more…]

More Than Cardboard

God is a resourceful dude. He made the earth out of nothing. He made man out of dirt. And he gave us cardboard.

Whoa, Sharita– random transition. Yes, I know. But after a school assignment last week (details below) I realized cardboard can be used for many different things. Little kids (myself included) use cardboard boxes as play houses, forts, sleds for the stairs (wear a helmet) and sometimes enjoy it more than what actually came in it. You can ship things in it, give gifts, level a wobbly table, house a litter of kittens in it, store memories, make a sign, he list is endless. [Read more…]
