Home is Where Jesus Calls You

Hi friends! I am taking a quick breather from creating new material on Wednesdays as I prep for an upcoming conference and lay some foundational leadership work with a one of my local organizations. I was digging through the archives and found this post worthy of a re-share. I pray you enjoy it! Thanks for the grace.

You’ve probably heard your share of “homey” quotes…

“Home is where the heart is.” “Home Sweet Home.” “Home is where you hang your hat.” “There’s no place like home” (Wizard of Oz, what, what!)

Ah, home. It conjures up all sorts of apple-pie-wafting, couch-snuggling, T.G.I.F sitcom watching (does anybody else remember the T.G.I.F television programming?) images of joy. [Read more…]

From Never to Forever (Preaching Recap)

Have I mentioned lately that GOD ROCKS?!?!?

I have? Oh. Well, just in case you forgot—GOD ROCKS!

Last Sunday, I had the incredible opportunity to preach… yes, for the first time ever. For two services. The attendees at Kincaid UMC and Welda UMC were wonderful! And I am happy to report that God showed up and showed out in some pretty remarkable ways.

As we rejoice in God’s goodness and power today, I wanted to share with you a synopsis of the message that God laid on my heart. The following is an abbreviated version of my notes since it was a 25-minute sermon and that is a bit much for a single blog post. (Forgive the choppiness… That is why they are notes. Although I did try to make them legible for purposes of this post.) [Read more…]

Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey

Do you remember that movie from the 1993 called “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey?” You know, the one with the two dogs (Shadow and Chance) and the cat (Sassy.)

Oh. You don’t? Well, google it. I will wait.

Got it? Ok. Well, it was one of my favorite movies back in the day– we owned it on VHS, and if we still had a VHS player, I would probably still watch it on occasion. That movie included my favorite things: Disney, animals and adventure.

Now my life is a little less Disney and a lot more adventure. [Read more…]

From Cluttered to Clean

Woooowwwweeee! I had a wild and crazy weekend folks.

That’s right, I spent  Friday and Saturday cleaning my house. Such a rebel rouser in my old age, huh? Actually, cleaning might be an understatement. I think “scouring” or “OCD organizing” might be more appropriate descriptions. (Um, I didn’t think nesting started for a few months yet? Holy cow.) [Read more…]

Not-So-Black Friday

I am not a Black Friday shopper. If you are, that’s great. But if you do fall into that category of super-dedicated deal hunters, I am going to assume you are probably reading this at 2pm because you were up at 0300 ready to run and throw some punches for that new TV and needed a nap afterwards. Hope you were successful. My time sleeping this morning was much enjoyed 🙂

Today is my last day at home in Kansas with my family. Even though I am leaving tomorrow to head back to Georgia, my Friday is not-so-black… but it is very bright. Maybe even yellow brick road bright. [Read more…]

Home Sweet Home

The highway stretched out before me… I look to my left, and there is a pasture full of cows with their new fall calves. On my right, a paddock with a few head of horses lounging in the Kansas mid-morning sun. I crack my car window just a smidge. I take a deep breath as the air rushes in, tousling my hair. I turn to my faithful baby dog traveling companion in the passenger seat, smile and say “Justus… we are almost HOME!” [Read more…]
