When Life and Beliefs Collide #WilcoWednesday

Welcome to Wilco Wednesday! If you are a new around these parts, “Wilco” is Army-speak for “Will Comply.” Think of it as saying “Roger, God. Got it. Will do.”  So that is what Wednesday here at 7 Days Time is all about– exploring his decrees and seeking guidance for what complying with Him looks like in everyday life. The best part? He loves us for who we are, not what we do.  Remember: He doesn’t want perfection, just obedience. Share. Enjoy. Interact. And let’s respond to God’s call with  a hearty “Wilco, Lord!”  Welcome my sweet-hearted, oil-loving friend Shelby!

For years I thought “You know, this walk would be much easier if God would lay out His will for me.” Then a dear sister in Christ took me to God’s word and pointed out verse after verse that tells us what His will is. I was stunned. So I became a student of the Bible and crammed a ton of theology into my brain because hey, if I knew all that stuff, life wouldn’t be so hard! Right?! Ha! I borrowed the title of this blog from a book that calls us to think seriously about what we believe about God. Because knowing Him and His character makes a difference when we’re faced with trials. I want to touch on two things…sickness and healing. But really, grace and faith. [Read more…]

I watched aid workers receive refugees on the shores of a dark, icy sea.  Huge, hot, tears streamed down my cheeks as I took the scene into my heart. Tears of joy, tears of sorrow.

Many worked to wrap blankets around the injured, the cold, the very young and the very old. Mothers and fathers with resigned brown eyes fed their children, drank water, gathered them up after a rest and walked out. What compelled them to move away from rest so quickly?

Terror. People who know there is a difference between leaving and escaping move with haste. When a million miles is not enough distance between you and evil that hunts you, haunts you—you keep moving.

On my knees, I sought God’s will for our part in his plan to rescue them. [Read more…]

In the Bottom of Your Sink

You might have noticed that in this current season,  Wednesdays are my days to work toward some super-awesome God-sized dreams. So here is a blast from the past straight from the archives. Enjoy, dear friends… and thanks for the grace.

Who would you say that your everyday hero is?

Perhaps it is your spouse. A parent. A child. A mentor. Maybe it’s the law enforcement officers or firefighters or soldiers (or maybe if you are  like me, it is your soldier spouse…)

In addition to those awesome hero’s listed above, my hero is any person who had the courage to clean out the drain in the bottom of the kitchen sink. [Read more…]

From Question Marks to Fulfilled Hearts

Why, God?!? WHY?!?

I can’t even imagine how many times a day this question is uttered to God from his Beloved followers throughout the world each day.

When our world is full of sorrow, sadness and trial… Suicide, homicide, genocide, crime, treachery, abuse, you name it… We barely know what to do other than to ask God questions.

I don’t know the answer to our lives that are full of question marks. But I am certain that God hears our pleas.

He has the power to take our question marks and transform them into fulfilled hearts that follow Christ. [Read more…]

An Ungrateful Heart & a Gentle Thwack between the Eyes (#EverydayJesus)

Welcome to another week of our Everyday Jesus link-up. Be sure to link-up below this post, comment on your neighbor’s blog and share with your friends… Because Jesus is everywhere, every day!

Some days I feel almost ok about my state of heart when it comes to following Jesus.

Like on days where His patience shines through with my daughter or I manage not to snap at the hubs when the dishes fail to make the two-foot leap from the sink to the dishwasher. Or when I have an extra-awesome quiet time or get a lot of His work done during nap time.

Then there are other days that my sin-nature rears its very, very ugly head and shocks me into an almost speechless mode. (And for those of you who have met me, you know that me + speechless = pretty serious situation.)

This ugliness recently showed up at my breakfast table during my quiet time.  [Read more…]

His Peace (A Printable)

This world gets a little cray-cray every now and then.

Or maybe it seems crazy for you EVERYDAY. Regardless of where you stand with your “peace level,” we don’t have to allow our surroundings or events dictate it.

Hence, this nifty pinnable AND printable pic. (If you like it, feel free to pin on Pinterest or click the blue link below to print it out. Just sayin.) [Read more…]

Hidden Ah-Ha’s: It’s not a Vocabulary Issue

Welcome to 7 Days Time.

Today, we will be talking about vomit.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! WAIT! Don’t leave. We aren’t talking about THAT kind of well, ya know… (Sheesh, give me some credit, man. Gross.)

I’m talking about WORD vomit. You know, that flow of words that just seems to bubble up out of the depths of your being and spew everywhere before you can say, “I think I’m going to be sick.”

Something that I am (unfortunately) pretty familiar with. SIGH. [Read more…]

Our Heart and Macaroni Art (In case you forgot…)

On a scale of one to ten… where is your heart with God today? I ran across the post below as I was walking down bloggy memory lane– I remember a brief season when I was disconnected to Him– and how He brought me back around.

If you find yourself in the same boat (or anywhere near the boat… on the shore, in the lighthouse, whatever) check out this reminder post below… and grab ahold of the love God is offering to you! Oh, and as usual– feel free to comment. 🙂

Loving Him,
SGK

****

I saw him from a distance. My heart started to pound. I smoothed my hair and gave myself a mental brownie point for wearing my favorite shirt. I considered moving closer to him… but he turned and started walking toward me. My breathing sped up. He was coming. He was beautiful. And I knew I belonged to him. [Read more…]

Five Minute FridayGreetings all!

It’s that time again– yeppers, it’s Five Minute Friday time. At the end of each “work week,” I link-up with Lisa-Jo Baker for this writing exercise of glory. She gives us a prompt. We write for five minutes. Without over thinking. Simply free and uninhibited.

I never know what is going to happen. (But these precious words from God rarely disappoint!)

So let’s get started and see what Jesus has to say via my fingertips today…

PROMPT: Beloved

Andddd GO!  [Read more…]

A Moment of Blog Silence

Today at 7 Days Time, there will be no new information or profound revelations. No witty or snarky comments. No creative analogies.

Today, there is a moment of blog silence.

On Friday, over two dozen people (including 20 children) were gunned down and killed in the Connecticut elementary school shooting. Soon after discovering this heartbreaking news, I was informed that one of our dear Kansas Agricultural Education teachers, Ms. Kendra Linnebur, had suddenly passed away from a form of meningitis. She was 32.

As I read the updates on both of these tragic events, I sobbed over Facebook. I sobbed in the shower. And now, while the tears have slowed briefly, I continue to mourn and weep upon the writing of this post. [Read more…]
