When Little Things Become Big

We’ve all heard it.

There are quotes said, books written, movies scripted around it.

The butterfly effect—that strange yet powerful phenomenon that says the beating wings of a single butterfly can have a drastic impact on weather systems and other events around the world.

The same concept can be applied to a pebble tossed in the water. Concentric ripples grow outwardly, getting bigger and bigger until their effects fade away into distant waters. [Read more…]

A Four-Letter-Word (Guest Blog)

The room was dark. All was quiet. But my mind was swirling… Various items of my “To Do” list were zipping through my head… Unpack boxes. Call the Internet company. Paint. Hang Curtains. Blog. Make the weekly menu. Update Budget.

My heart started to race and a sinking feeling of panic overtook me. There was no way sleep was coming any time soon. But then suddenly… I heard His Voice… [Read more…]

Everyday Jesus: The Smiling Square Faces

Are you ready for yet another incredible installment of our “Everyday Jesus” guest blogging series? I sure hope so… because this one, written by my sweet friend Amy, is a doozy. Her perspective will surely make your scratch your head (in a good way!) and her personality will make you want to reach through the screen and drag her to Starbucks for a face-to-face chat about… well, anything! This gal is an incredibly talented writer and such a passion for Jesus that it’s contagious.

So yes, meet Amy. And be sure to show her the love both here and over at her place!

Always impressed by Him,

It’s easy to lose track of Jesus online. Bloggers blast out words at all times of day and night. Pieces of truth they are learning, and that truth is usually accompanied by a beautiful picture with a moving piece of scripture inscribed in cool font.Tweets and likes and +1’s, cloud my thinking, and it doesn’t make sense that Jesus can be the topic of almost every post I read and yet, somehow go missing. When I start feeling like this, I know it’s time to unplug, and I do so happily.Who will notice I am missing?Surely, the smiling, square faces from Arizona, Arkansas, and across the ocean are busy, and if I close shop for a time, it would go undetected. *Insert speculation about the quality of my online relationships. The ‘Where’s Waldo’ books and puzzles have been around for years….since 1987 to be exact.  Some are more challenging than others.  You’ve seen these, right?  Waldo and other characters are always dressed in bright red and white stripes, which would suggest that they would be rather easy to pick out in a crowd.  As it turns out, however, it’s not really that simple. Everyday Jesus: Coincidence?

Ever have those friends or people in your life that you just simply ADORE? I do– and today’s guest post is brought to you by just one of those such people… Kelli is not only my dear friend, but she is also a mentor, coach, “boss,” and encourager in my life. She is a talented speaker and writer– so please show her lots of love (both here and at her site via leaving comments) as she shares her heart today on the latest and greatest edition of “Everyday Jesus!”

I remember running late taking my kids to school one morning several years ago. I was frustrated. They were in tears. Instead of speeding and risking getting a ticket or being involved in an accident and making my morning even worse, I decided to slow down. We were just going to have to be late. And I began to pray that God would show me Himself. “God, give me patience. Make me a better parent. Help my kids get their act together!” (You know, the usual prayers when you are late and frustrated.) Out of nowhere, a peacock came out of the woods and began to cross the road. Seriously. I thought I was losing my mind. I live in mid-Georgia. Last time I checked, we don’t have peacocks running wild. [Read more…]

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

Hiding his eyes behind two pudgy hands, my toddler grandson starts counting. “One, two, three, four, five…” His excitement builds and he rushes, “Eight – nine – ten…here I come!” He’s now in hot pursuit of his slightly older sister. Oh, how he thrills in the pursuit. [Read more…]

Have you ever noticed that everything seems worse when you’re tired or hungry?

Think about it. You might not be having the best day, but it’s not awful. And then, as you go from meeting to meeting or run errands, you miss lunch. And what happens? You get cranky. Maybe a headache comes on. You lose your patience with co-workers or your kids. And your day has gone from bad to worse.

This was me a few weeks ago, but not because I missed lunch.

I did something to my back, although I don’t really know what. One minute I was fine. The next minute I sat down for dinner, and I felt something slip out-of-place. It was painful, but not awful. [Read more…]

“Serving” Up a Hot Vliggity Vlog

I love making up words.

Perhaps you figured that out with the title of this post. Seriously. (Vliggity? I need to cut back on the Jesus caffeine.)

If you are already confused and/or exhausted from your remaining turkey tryptophan coma or Black Friday shopping, my apologies. You are excused to go get a nap then come back. 😉

Ok. Let’s get down to business.

Today’s post is a variation of Five Minute Friday. Since it is a holiday-ish weekend, I thought I would take a slightly different approach. So today is a short little guest VLOG (video blog) day. [Read more…]

Embracing Change: Take it to the Bank (Guest Post)

My feet gently hit the pavement, in rhythm with the tiny “click, clack” of puppy paws. Although my mind wonders, my eyes are focused. They scan the horizon and then dart back to the ground. Just as we round the last block, a bright glint catches in my eye… there it is… [Read more…]

Truth, Dare… Or Both

It was pitch black. My flashlight beam bounced all around thanks to my shaky hand. I swallowed hard. There was no turning back. I had already accepted those fateful words:

“I dare you.”

I set out to accomplish my dare: cross a deserted country highway, in the dark, at 3am on a Sunday morning. It seemed simple enough, but to a group (gaggle? posse? flock?) of 7th grade girls, this was the dare of all dares. As I neared the middle of the road, I grew confident. “Pshaw. This is easy,” I thought to myself.

Suddenly, my friends start squawking and squealing. Headlights were coming. Sure, they were a good half-mile away, but WHO was driving on the road at 3am in the country? My heart raced. I turned and ran faster than I ever had in my life.  A jumble of screaming girls piled into the tent. We peeked out the zipper flap to make sure the car passed by.

But the car turned into the driveway.

We tried to stifle our screams of terror as waited to meet the unknown stranger that would surely be our demise… [Read more…]
