Handle with Prayer

Life can be distracting.

Life can be overwhelming.
Life can be stressful.
Life can be uncertain.

Any of these statements apply to you today? Then read on, dear friend. HOW do we function daily, putting first things first, without going off the deep end?

Some might say they flip the “Don’t Care” switch. (It works, but probably not the healthiest option.)  Others might consume copious amounts of chocolate. (Again… great theory, might not be super healthy.)  Still others retreat into a shell, shutting out the world. [Read more…]

On an Adventure

(Insert intense sounding music here)

“From the African deserts of the Sahara… To the Jungles of the Amazon… Across the desolate prairie…. Through the frozen tundra of the Arctic… Around your own living room… IT’S AN ADVENTURE!!”

Did you start singing in your head “One of these things is not like the other?” If so, don’t feel bad. I woke up the other day singing “This is the song that never ends” from Lambchop for absolutely no reason AT ALL. (This is the song that never ends… it just goes on and on my friend… some people, started singing it not knowing what it was, but we’ll continue singing it forever just because this is the song that never ends…) [Read more…]

Six-word living

Today we are going to talk about dying. Death. Kicking the bucket. Pushing up daisies. Walking the golden streets with Jesus. The eternal nap.

You get my drift.

I know, I know, death can be a very dark, trying and sad subject, especially if it is unexpected or painful. But hey, life is short (pun intended) so why not look at this light-hearted. After all… I know where I am going and I hope you do too. (Gonna be knock, knock, knocking on heaven’s door. Someday.) [Read more…]

Heavenly Friends

Cuddly. Playful. Adorable. Rolly-Polly bellies. Clumsy legs.  Wet noses. Always content.

You might guess that I am describing a flock (gaggle? herd) of small… babies at a daycare. But if you think wet noses and contentment don’t always (but sometimes-HA!) fit them, you are right.

Puppies. They are so awesome.

Sure, some are better than others. They have to be training, coached, taught and molded to behave the way we desire. But as I was watching my wonderful little baby dog Sweet Justus the other day, I couldn’t help but think… How awesome would it be to be a puppy? [Read more…]

Our Heart and Macaroni Art

I saw him from a distance. My heart started to pound. I smoothed my hair and gave myself a mental brownie point for wearing my favorite shirt. I considered moving closer to him… but he turned and started walking toward me. My breathing sped up. He was coming. He was beautiful. And I knew I belonged to him.

Pretty romantic huh? Probably sounds like every chick flick ever produced. But I am not talking about anyone tall, dark and handsome (or blonde with blue eyes in my case.) I am talking about God. Our Father. Our One. [Read more…]

Army Of God: “Stuff With Things”

I know, I know… when a person says they have a “favorite” something that usually indicates that they  have only one. HOWEVER… I am writing this blog, so I make the rules. And today is another one of my favorite vocabulary phrases used by the Army (specifically, my husband.)

Stuff with things: The abstract phrase used to describe a plan of action or agenda that is yet undetermined or completely unknown to any or all parties involved. [Read more…]

The Gloves are Coming off: FIGHT BACK!

“LADIES & GENTLEMEN…(gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen…)

WELCOME…(welcome, welcome, welcome…)

TO THE  FIGHT (Fight, fight, fight…)

OF THE CENTURY!!!!!”

I took a boxing class my senior year of college (my 5th year at KSU.) It wasn’t because I aspired to be in the ring, listening to the announcer’s echo of my mad skills as I faced my opponent. Nor did I plan to learn how to properly punch people who annoyed me. I took the boxing class because I was a 5th year senior and it was an excellent alternative to any “real” class I might have to take… like biochemistry. Yeah, no thanks. [Read more…]

We have… Memory Loss

Think about your most prominent memory. Where were you? What time of year was it? Was it a good memory? A challenging experience? What type of details do you remember about it?

Reminiscing can be a lot of fun. It might also be a little painful. Personally, my memories can be triggered by a location, sound, song, smell, person or experience. Some memories are so prominent that I literally get goosebumps– it feels like I am traveling back in time, experiencing the specific event all over again. [Read more…]

We have… A Power Shortage

The house was pitch black. Dad woke me for school, but I was less than excited to get out of bed… Our house was freezing! It was a the winter of my sophomore year of high school… and after experiencing an ice storm that produced over three inches of ice the previous week, we were going on day ten without power. Pitch black. Cold. Awesome.

I stumbled out of bed and quickly pulled on my costume. Yes, I said costume. I was part of the one-act play “Anybody for Tea” and had to be dressed and ready to perform upon arrival at school. My character was an old quirky woman, so apparently I played the part well… I pulled on my fuzzy socks, grabbed some breakfast and ran out the door. [Read more…]

Say Good Morning

Who do you tell “Good morning” each day?

Are you the kind of person who springs out of bed, raring to go with the “today-I’m-gonna-change-the-world-attitude?” Or are you the person that others understand if they approach you before your morning cup-o-joe, they might very well get shanked?

Either way, whether you are the happy-go-lucky or gimme-coffee-now or somewhere in between kinda person, you can always say good morning to one person: God. [Read more…]
