If Only … (Anxiety-Free Monday, Wk 4)

If only… My hair was longer.
If only… My thighs were smaller.
If only… I was four inches taller.
If only… I was more talented.
If only… I was 20 pounds lighter.
If only… My teeth were straighter.
If only… I was gifted like SHE is.
If only……………………….

How many times have you started a thought with the phrase “If only?” I know I have done it and occasionally still fall back into that trap, especially in the categories of physical attributes and “why-can’t-I-be-more-like-her?”

Let’s be honest—we women are exceptionally hard on ourselves. Some of us probably play the “if only” game on a daily basis.  We set such high standards of needing to do it all, be it all for everybody, all the while “looking good.” [Read more…]

Looking Good… Or Looking to God

Confession: (Gulp.) I used to think it was all about me.

Ouch. That hurts my heart just to write it.

For all of you sweet readers out there that perhaps did not watch me grow up (or grow up with me for that matter) let me explain just a bit. I wasn’t the fashionable girl. (And I’m still not- although I received some coaching in this department in college—thanks Kally.) I wasn’t the super-duper popular girl. (And I am still not. Which I am ok with—being popular looks like a lot of work.) However, I was the overachieving girl who always wanted to be “the funny one.”

Being funny was my way of getting attention. (Plus it was a way for people to see my personality instead of my overweight teenage body.) Overachieving was my way of getting attention for “good things.” Me, me, me—it was all about me. My plans. My schedule. My life.

And then Jesus thumped me (lovingly, of course) between the eyes. [Read more…]

Tuning Out: Media

“Sweetheart… HEELLLLLLOOOOOOOO!!!! Ahem. Can you please mute the TV so  I can talk to you?”

We live in a society that is consumed with media. Everywhere we look– there’s a TV, computer, phone, iPad, radio waiting to grab our attention.

Don’t get me wrong. Media can be REALLY productive. I mean seriously, this entire ministry is essentially media based.

However, media can also become a time-sucking, heart-focusing idol.

“Wait, wait, wait. An idol? Seriously, Sharita? My TV/phone/computer/iPad?? ” [Read more…]

Treasure in Jars of… Salsa??

Today, I would like to provide you with a practical, real-life lesson and application:

How to Semi-Effectively Clean Up A Smashed Jar of Salsa

1. Take a deep breath, close your eyes and say a silent prayer for the Lord to forgive you of the very loud and prominent obscenity you just yelled as you watched your new quart jar of homemade salsa crash onto the floor.

2. Shuffle the pup out of doors so he is not inclined to “help” with clean up.

3. Put on shoes as to avoid glass shards in the feet.

4. Clean up the glassy salsa with whatever tools you have available (might I recommend: An old dust pan and empty Diet Dr. Pepper box) [Read more…]

True Love Is… (Just A Quick Reminder)

Hello darling readers… due to my continued exhaustion via life/pneumonia/army, I am taking a quick brain breather and resharing with you one of my favorite posts… about marriage and Jesus. (Two of my favorite topics!)  I would love to hear your fresh thoughts on what YOU believe true love really is in your life– in marriage, in your relationship with Christ or when/where ever! Leave a comment below. (Please and thank you.)

Thanks for your continued patience while I get back on my feet. Looking forward to getting back in the groove sooner than later. (Jesus willing.)

Much love,

Ready or Not… (Five Minute Friday)

Hey yo, readers o’ glory. (Don’t ask what’s with the weird talking all coolio/medieval combination. All I can say is I have no idea– and I’m chalking it up to Friday randomness.)

It time for Five Minute Friday here at 7 Days Time. For those of you new to our little hangout, each Friday I link up with Lisa-Jo, our favorite Gypsy Mama. She gives us a prompt. Then we write.

How long do we write? Yep, you guessed it– for five minutes flat.
Five Minute Friday

It’s a great change of pace from thinking and writing of normal blog posts days. Because with this post, there is no over-thinking, excessive editing etc. We let our fingers flows, going with our gut and going with God.

Today’s prompt: HERE

Operation Fortitude Fitness (Month #7)

Goodbye, July… Hello August. (Already?!?)

As the store shelves fill (and are emptied) with school supplies, I am embarking on a new month of Operation Fortitude Fitness.

For those of you just joining us, check out last month’s post or my beginning of 2012 post to get caught up.

In summary, July was… super busy. I was disconnected for a week for a much needed vacation, then SheSpeaks and my sweet Mother-In-Love visited for a week. All of those things were huge blessings… But apparently, I can’t do it all. [Read more…]

My iPod & God

“SIGGGGHHHH… Where in the name of all things covered in chocolate is my iPod?!?”

I have to be honest with you, dear readers. Usually I am pretty on top of things. Although my personality (sanguine) tends to be easily distracted by the bright and shiny, one of my spiritual gifts is administration, which helps me to be super organized. (Thanks for that divine, life-saving combo, Jesus!)

But occasionally, especially when I am tired or overly squirrelly, my sanguine brain reigns (say that five times fast) and I misplace things. [Read more…]

Heavy Lifting

“Ready? Go!! Come on, lift with your legs, not with your back. A little to the left… Watch the corner… Your end needs to swing my way… WATCH YOUR FINGERS!!”

Moving a couch is a lot of work. I personally have moved many times over the years and moving the couch is oftentimes one of the most logistically challenging parts of the experience. (It ranks right up with there with “Gee, I hope I packed those fragile dishes good enough.”) [Read more…]
