The Christian Runner’s Creed

If you have been hanging around 7 Days Time this year, you know that God has calling me to do some pretty outrageous things… At least for this girl who formerly hated running with a passion.

Yes, He has called me to become a runner. This year, by the complete grace, power and strength of Jesus, I have went from a gal who couldn’t run a mile to someone who ran a 10K (6.2 miles) and then also recently completed my first half-marathon (13.1 miles.)

I think I have become a crazy person… If not a crazy person in general, at least one who is more and more crazy about Jesus every single day. [Read more…]

Hidden Ah-Ha’s: Arise & Shine

We are standing on the precipice of a new year.

In just a couple of days, that ball will drop, we will place new calendars throughout our house and welcome 2014 with (hopefully) open arms.

Beautiful and exciting thought, yes?

But then… after the confetti is cleaned up and the tree is taken down, it’s back to the grindstone. Same old stuff.

Or is it??? [Read more…]

Everyday Jesus: Run For God… Mama-Style

Remember a few weeks ago my friend Charity sharing about leading a “Run for God” journey at our church? Yeah… well here is the INCREDIBLE conclusion with a great “Mother’s Day” twist. Seriously, you don’t wanna miss it. It is sure to inspire you to lace up your tennis shoes and hit the pavement… to run your Race for Him– as we find Jesus in the Everyday.

Running to Him,
SGK

****

On our very first run, it rained. In the first guest post, I talked about the rain and all the reasons we avoid it. I also mentioned that without rain, there is no growth.

Well… God sent that rain for a reason. His amazing, loving hands have “watered” us in ways I could have never imagined. His eternal gardening has caused some amazing growth with beautiful fruit and flowers. [Read more…]

Planned with Purpose (Anxiety-Free Monday, Wk #8)

I am not a huge fan of cleaning.

I mean, I try to keep our house in decent-ish order, as in keeping the dishes contained to their sink/cabinet areas and preventing any accidental science experiments from growing in the back of the fridge.

However, as much as I loathe the day-to-day cleaning experiences, I do occasionally get in a mood to sort, organize and purge. In those moments, nothing can stop me from tearing apart the nearest coat closet or office desk drawer.

As an army family, we move a lot– and when we move, that is the ideal time to clean. And purge. [Read more…]

Looking Good… Or Looking to God

Confession: (Gulp.) I used to think it was all about me.

Ouch. That hurts my heart just to write it.

For all of you sweet readers out there that perhaps did not watch me grow up (or grow up with me for that matter) let me explain just a bit. I wasn’t the fashionable girl. (And I’m still not- although I received some coaching in this department in college—thanks Kally.) I wasn’t the super-duper popular girl. (And I am still not. Which I am ok with—being popular looks like a lot of work.) However, I was the overachieving girl who always wanted to be “the funny one.”

Being funny was my way of getting attention. (Plus it was a way for people to see my personality instead of my overweight teenage body.) Overachieving was my way of getting attention for “good things.” Me, me, me—it was all about me. My plans. My schedule. My life.

And then Jesus thumped me (lovingly, of course) between the eyes. [Read more…]

On our Tippy Toes (Five Minute Friday)

Hello all! We have made it to another Friday once again. (See, no matter what you do or don’t get done today, you can at least say you survived (and hopefully thrived) through another week!)

Fridays are extra special ’round these parts. It is the day where I link up with our favorite Gypsy Mama Lisa-Jo Baker for Five Minute Friday.

Five Minute Friday is just like it sounds– she gives us a prompt, then we write for five minutes. Sounds easy enough, yes?

Five Minute Friday

Here’s the kicker– As we let the words flow, there is no over-thinking or editing. We just go with it and see what Jesus comes up with via our fingers in five minutes.

Today’s prompt: STRETCH

Operation Fortitude Fitness (Month #7)

Goodbye, July… Hello August. (Already?!?)

As the store shelves fill (and are emptied) with school supplies, I am embarking on a new month of Operation Fortitude Fitness.

For those of you just joining us, check out last month’s post or my beginning of 2012 post to get caught up.

In summary, July was… super busy. I was disconnected for a week for a much needed vacation, then SheSpeaks and my sweet Mother-In-Love visited for a week. All of those things were huge blessings… But apparently, I can’t do it all. [Read more…]

Vanilla-Flavored Living

I’ve always heard that one bad apple can ruin the whole bunch. However, due to the fact that I rarely purchase a whole “bunch” of apples, I have yet to experience this phenomenon. (Although I have dealt with this issue in the area of potatoes. One stinky potato can make the whole bunch yucky in a hurry. But I digress.) [Read more…]

To All His Good and Faithful Servants

God’s love and affirmation can come in my forms…

God speaks to us in many ways… Sometimes it is through Scripture. Occasionally through song. Or another person.

And sometimes, He just straight up talks to us. However– we have to be willing to listen.

Today’s post isn’t eloquent or hilarious or exceptionally creative. It is a loving word I received from Him during the last few moments of my sabbatical in Pine Mountain this past weekend. [Read more…]

Salt and Light (Five Minute Friday)

Praise the Lord for Five Minute Friday! Why, you ask my dear reader? Well, I am learning a lesson on what it means to be a Jesus blogger and temporary Mama. I offered to watch a friend’s two little precious girls overnight so they are currently ankle deep in toys in my living room watching Tangled.

Needless to say– my attention is a bit divided.

On that note, time to get down to business… Of Fridays I link up with The Gypsy Mama. She gives us a one word prompt, and we write like the wind for five minute. No over thinking, no editing.

Today’s prompt: LIGHT
