Treasure Hunting

You might have noticed that in this current season,  Wednesdays are my days to work toward some super-awesome God-sized dreams. So here is a blast from the past straight from the archives. Enjoy, dear friends… and thanks for the grace.

Treasure Chest1We were on a mission.

We had changed into our “play clothes.” We had our plastic shovel and bucket in hand. Time to get down to serious business.

We were going treasure hunting.

“Treasure hunting” was one of my sister and I’s favorite activities when we were younger. In fact, it ranks right up there with tormenting each other. Specifically: me convincing her that the flower blooms on our bushes where actually “wild broccoli,” thus she should consume them for nutritional reasons, as well as daring her lick the frozen iron handrail on the front porch as the school bus came down the driveway. (Both instances resulted in the first two times I got grounded. Ah, memories.) [Read more…]

Why We Need Sticky Moments

Welcome to another week of our Everyday Jesus link-up. Be sure to link-up below this post, comment on your neighbor’s blog and share with your friends… Because Jesus is everywhere, every day!

The following post will probably involve awkward and TMI (too much information) moments.

So read at your own risk.

To catch  you all up, there are a few things you need to know:

1. This year is the year I learn how to run.

2. Buying workout gear is fun… yet not cheap. (Hello, Goodwill!)

3. Genetics (and Jesus)  made me one of the most “pear-shaped” people on the planet. [Read more…]

When We Fumble our Faith

Do you like sports?

I do… And I don’t. I enjoy watching them and cheering for them, especially the Kansas State University Wildcats! (GO STATE!)

But playing sports? Uh, no thanks. Please sign me up to be the dihydrogen monoxide manager. <Water girl.>

I have never enjoyed playing any sport other than Ultimate Frisbee for the following reasons: [Read more…]

Attitude of Gratitude 365 (#EverydayJesus Link Up)

Attitude of Gratitude 365I would say that for the most part, I am a pretty optimistic, positive person.

But honestly, I have my days where that is SO not the case.

I try to look on the bright side of things, but on the days when this army-wife-life is extra challenging, my attitude changes from positive to negative quicker than you can say “Wait… the army wants us to do what now?”

However, I have learned that having a positive attitude is one of the best ways not only to survive this roller coaster ride that is loving a soldier, but it is a key to thrive.

With a little practice, we can keep ahold of that positive outlook by training ourselves to have an attitude of gratitude, 365 days a year. [Read more…]

Right after college graduation, I decided that to properly enter the big kid world, I needed to do something drastic.

So I decided to go to China for 10 days. By myself.

Yes, I had a friend that was already living over there, but all planning, transportation and the like was on me. Plus my friend has to work during the day so I knew I would be on my own in the “little” Chinese town of Xiamen (pronounced: Shaw-men, population: 2 million people. And yes, that is small for China.)

My flights booked and I had my passport and visa in hand. I had only flown internationally one other time and it certainly wasn’t to the other side of the planet by myself.

Needless to say, I was a wee bit nervous.

Spinning INto Control

You might have noticed that Wednesdays are my days to take a breath. To rest. Recharge. To work toward some super-awesome God-sized goals for 2014. So here is a blast from the past straight from the archives.

I’ve been to my fair share of retreats and camps.

Back in my younger days, my retreat/camping experiences revolved around organizations like FFA (National Blue and Corn Gold, baby!) Alpha of Clovia Scholarship house, Blue Key and Agricultural Ambassadors. But it didn’t matter what organization I went “retreating” with, “recreation” was always on the schedule. [Read more…]

Country Running & Faith Lessons

You might recall that 2014 is the Year of the Runner for this formerly anti-running chick.

I have learned that there are many, many lessons to be learned in this running journey– many of which relate directly to faith.

About a month ago, I was blessed to spend some quality time back home with my family in Kansas. Just because I was on “vacation” didn’t mean God released me to sit on my duff for those few weeks. Nope, I had to keep hitting the pavement… Er, I mean gravel.

It was the first time ever in my life doing some literal cross-country running on dusty (and sometimes muddy) roads. Miles and miles just me, God, and the sneaky rocks trying to trip me up. [Read more…]

A Walk Through the Parables: The Mustard Seed

I have always been on the small-ish side of things.

I don’t mean small-minded or super small in girth, but small in stature.

That’s right. I am short.

On a good day I reach the incredible heights of five feet, two inches.

I was “that kid” who never debated my place in line on class picture day. It was always front row on one of the ends, so my short little self could be seen long after we said cheese and the film was developed.

A Bathroom Prayer

Hi friends… For the next several weeks, Wednesdays will be dedicated to re-sharing some of my favorite posts. I am so blessed to be working on some “big rocks” and pretty awesome God-sized dreams, but I need time to make that happen. So after much prayer, here we are. I pray you enjoy these words… And thanks for extending me Christ-like grace. Oh. And everything is still business as usual for our Thursday #EverydayJesus link-up, so don’t miss it!

First of all… Kudos that you made it past the title and are still reading.

Secondly, please don’t be scared. We aren’t going to spend time talking about the, uh, things that go on in the bathroom, particularly those things that, um, require “concentration.” (But if we were… it would be ok– because we really have few boundaries here at 7 Days Time. After all, everyone poops. <Did you know there is a book called that to help little kids learn about potty training and stuff? Fun parenting tip. Anywho…>)

This isn’t about what happens in the bathroom. Rather, it is about a sign that hangs in our downstairs guest bathroom.

Just think about it– we spend a lot of time in our bathrooms… bathing, grooming and that “other stuff.” Maybe that’s why when people say they want to remember something, they tape it to their bathroom mirror. [Read more…]

Video Blog: Pray Scared

Being scared is not on my top 10 list of fun things to do.

Actually, I don’t think it makes the top 1000.

But encountering fearful situations are part of our existence and how we handle them can say a lot about our relationship with God. Plus, it is a great opportunity to grow closer to Him in Christ.

Which is what today’s video blog is all about… Having the courage to pray scared.

Where in your life do you need to pray scared? How do you think God wants to grow you in those situations? You know I always welcome feedback. Leave a comment before you go.

Don’t fear, my friends… God is with you as you grow. Have the courage to pray scared.
