One Word 2015: Rest #EverydayJesus

Welcome to another week of our Everyday Jesus link-up. Be sure to link-up below this post, comment on your neighbor’s blog and share with your friends… Because Jesus is everywhere, every day!

This is the fourth consecutive year that God has called me to choose a “One Word” to focus on for 12 whole months.

And while this word totally makes sense for me, this very well could be the most challenging yet.

In 2012, He called me to TRUST.

2013, I needed to STAND.

Last year in 2014, was all about GROW.

And now, a seasonal culmination of all my One Word journey in 2015: REST. [Read more…]

The Vision #WilcoWednesday

7 Days Time

Welcome to Wilco Wednesday! If you are a new around these parts, “Wilco” is Army-speak for “Will Comply.” Think of it as saying “Roger, God. Got it. Will do.”  So that is what Wednesday here at 7 Days Time is all about– exploring his decrees and seeking guidance for what complying with Him looks like in everyday life. The best part? He loves us for who we are, not what we do.  Remember: He doesn’t want perfection, just obedience. Share. Enjoy. Interact. And let’s respond to God’s call with  a hearty “Wilco, Lord!”

A bit of background for this first Wilco Wednesday Post: God has recently called me to fill the role at Spiritual Life 1st Vice President in our local Protestant Women of the Chapel (PWOC.) This was a message he placed on my heart for the vision of our organization. Not surprisingly, it applies to much more than our local PWOC– perhaps it applies to our personal walk with Christ!

I do not have a green thumb. I have tried all my life to grow various vegetation and the results were less than impressive. It was all I could do to keep Enrique the Spider Plant alive through college and Chloe the Peace Lily semi-sustained in the early years of army wife life. Fortunately, God hasn’t called me to a life of horticulture.

He has called me to a life of Jesus-culture, one that comes alongside other seekers and believers to encourage, build up and teach them as they find Him in their everyday. All my life, I have loved people, and in the last three and a half years in ministry, He has gradually cultivated a deep passion for the women who love Him. [Read more…]

Clarity in the Chaos

You might have noticed that in this current season,  Wednesdays are my days to work toward some super-awesome God-sized dreams. So here is a blast from the past straight from the archives. Enjoy, dear friends… and thanks for the grace.

Today I have a little brain teaser for you… What does this mean to you?

Is it just a random jumble of letters to you? Or were you able to break it down and see something hidden in the chaos? Not sure? Look again… [Read more…]

Practicing What we Preach: Love

Love is crazy.

And not just the heart-beating-face-flushing-he-is-so-dreamy kind of love.

Jesus love. Yeah. It’s crazy.

Crazy Awesome.

Think about it. God loves us in spite of ourselves. He loves us through our sins, our failures, when we see something shiny and lose focus on Him.

Considering how much I sin (uh, daily) that is pretty dang crazy.

But yet, He continues to love. And he calls us to do the same.  [Read more…]

Through the Thorns (And Past the Spiders)

This just in…

Life is not easy.

Ok, that statement is far from a breaking story. If you have been on earth for more than 6 minutes, you have probably lived this truth first hand.

We live in a fallen world that involves pain, suffering, unanswered questions, and some downright sorrowful moments.

But here’s the thing: Although we live in a messy, gross, sinful world, it is GOD’S world. And His world is what I like to call a Romans 8:28 world.

“God works all things for good for those who love him and are called according to His purpose.” [Read more…]

5 Steps of Personal Growth

Tall GrassGrowing up is hard to do.

Seems like a pretty obvious statement but hey… We probably all need to be reminded every now and again.

Some folks might think that “growing” stops when we reach a certain age or milestone, perhaps when we turn 18, graduate college, get married, have kids, retire from the military or become empty nesters.

But when it comes right down to it, the most content, fulfilled and successful people are going those who be grow their entire lives.

I don’t know about you, but I definitely want to be in that category of “personal growers.”

So today, I am sharing five powerful, necessary steps of personal growth. [Read more…]

Why We Need Sticky Moments

Welcome to another week of our Everyday Jesus link-up. Be sure to link-up below this post, comment on your neighbor’s blog and share with your friends… Because Jesus is everywhere, every day!

The following post will probably involve awkward and TMI (too much information) moments.

So read at your own risk.

To catch  you all up, there are a few things you need to know:

1. This year is the year I learn how to run.

2. Buying workout gear is fun… yet not cheap. (Hello, Goodwill!)

3. Genetics (and Jesus)  made me one of the most “pear-shaped” people on the planet. [Read more…]

In the See-You-Later Moments (Three-Word Wednesday)

See You Later moments

As an army wife, I have had my fair share of “see-you-later” moments.

I call those challenging farewell experiences “see-you-later” moments because I despise the word goodbye. “Goodbye” seems so… final.

And if you are a Jesus lover like me, there is no finality to the separation with our fellow Jesus-lovers.

This truth alone gives me strength/courage/hope to get out of bed each day and face whatever challenges God has divinely placed in my path.

Although I sound all macho-rock-star-confident about the see-you-later moments in my life, I wasn’t always like that.

I remember my first “see-you-later” moment with my then-boyfriend-yet-soon-to-be-husband Brandon.

From Unraveling to Reveling (#EverydayJesus)

Welcome to another week of our Everyday Jesus link-up. Be sure to link-up below this post, comment on your neighbor’s blog and share with your friends… Because Jesus is everywhere, every day!

Some days as a minister, mama and wife, I feel like I am unraveling. Falling to pieces. Tearing apart at the seams.

Unraveling

My nerves are shot, I am weary, and my patience was gone with the breakfast tantrum.

In those moments of unraveling is when I need Jesus the most.

Because through Him, His love, His power… He can transform us. We can go from unraveling with frustration to reveling in everything He is doing around us.

Talk about a perspective shifter of heavenly proportions! [Read more…]

The Exception (Repost)

What is your first thought when you think of the word “exception?”

Do you think it is something special? Something unattainable? A person, place or thing that is out of the ordinary?

If so, then you would be right. Sorta. Ish.

Webster defines exception as “an instance or case not conforming to the general rule.” That makes sense, right?

But what about being an exception in the world? Or even more so… In our walk with Christ?? [Read more…]
