You might have noticed that in this current season, Wednesdays are my days to work toward some super-awesome God-sized dreams. So here is a blast from the past straight from the archives. Enjoy, dear friends… and thanks for the grace.

***

My heart was pounding. The sun was beating down on the back of my neck. My little feet left wet footprints on the warm concrete. I shivered… from the gentle Kansas breeze or nerves, I couldn’t tell. I approached my target. Breath. Step. Breath. Step. Breath. Step.

The higher I climbed, the harder my heart pounded. I reached the top and peered down to the deep blue water. My Mama was looking up at me, her hands shielding her eyes from the sun, watching my every move. I inched slowly to the end of the board. Then I turned around, heading back towards the ladder.

Suddenly, I spun on my heels, got running start and jumped. It felt like I was flying, suspended in air for a few brief seconds… That is, until I hit the water.

Yes, my first ever trip off the high dive at the swimming pool ended in a belly flop. Uh, ouch? While the landing took my breath away, my third grade limbs managed to function well enough to get me back to safety to the side of the pool. I DID IT.

Not quite the high dive described above… but it captures my expression both then AND now when it comes to taking risks.

Many years later, I discovered that my Mom was prepared for me to chicken out. When I turned back around heading towards the ladder, she thought I had changed my mind. But in all actuality, I had a surge of courage. Get a running start, plug my nose and dive in.

Nearly two decades later, I am still not much of a thrill seeker, especially when it comes to heights. But one thing has changed. When it comes to Jesus activities on the ground, I now have the courage to risk boldly and jump (with or without the running start and/or plugged nose.)

While I would love to say that the risks I take were the same caliber as jumping off the high dive, now they seem to be much more intense. Instead of risks of the physical type, God has called me to risk boldly when it comes to issues of the heart. Personally, my heart seems more fragile than my body sometimes.

And yes… even “heart risks” can end in a belly flop.

I risked boldly when… I answered the call to be an army wife. It’s thrilling, rewarding, and occasionally terrifying. Yeah, sometimes I feel like we are just treading water, waiting for a direction. But I don’t regret diving into marriage with my beloved.

I risked boldly when… God told my husband and I to start a family. We felt the initial sting of that landing when we miscarried in March 2012. Now we are slowly but surely paddling to the ladder of safety and recovery on the side as we parent our tiny human toddler after another try.

I risked boldly when… I answered the call to ministry. Launching my own personal ministry has literally made me lose sleep on occasion, due to excitement, uncertainty and confusion. Yes, I have swallowed a little water along the way and felt like I was temporarily sinking, wondering WHY I jumped in… But God is right there beside me, His words similar to Dori from Finding Nemo: “Just Keep Swimming.”

Is God calling you to dive into something? Or are you already in the pool, trying to keep your head above water? I would love for you to share your experiences by leaving a comment.

Regardless of where you are on that risk taking dive, whether you are still on the ground looking up, in the middle of the climb, flying through the air, recovering from a bellyflop landing or paddling towards the side… Know that God is your lifeguard, cheering you on. Don’t be afraid to dive in and just keep swimming.

Hi friends… No Five Minute Friday today, because our good friend Lisa-Jo Baker is currently celebrating Christmas in South Africa (where she is originally from… How cool is that?!) So in honor of chill-ax Friday in this holiday season, I wanted to share with you an encouraging (and humorous) word about obedience vs. perfection. (Hint: God only asks for one and I bet you can guess.)

***

When I was a pre-teen, I spent a few days every now and then working in a little country store back home. Jeanie’s was a tiny place with two booths and a menu that consisted of cold sandwiches or fried food. She also kept in stock the “necessities” for life, including milk, eggs and toilet paper. (Which was really convenient since the nearest town with a “real” grocery store was 20 miles away.)

On the cash register hung a sign with words I remember to this day:

“Pobody’s Nerfect.“

It made me laugh. And still does. I love the irony of switching the first two letters to emphasize that true, nobody is perfect… even the maker of the sign. (I love ironic humor, just FYI.)

Source: Deeplifequotes via flickr

Every now and then, that idea of “Pobody’s Nerfect” pops into my head. It resurfaced in my brain last week during my quiet time with the Lord.

I was reminded that nobody on this earth is perfect. Jesus was the only perfect man, the rest of us are kind of messed up. (Can I get an AMEN?) I’ve noticed that so many people don’t want to follow the call that God has placed on their life because they don’t feel that they will able to do it perfectly.

Newsflash: They are right. They won’t be able to do it perfectly. But God doesn’t ask for perfection. He asks for obedience.

Let me give you an example. Say that I begin my daily work out…perhaps a run. Sometimes, I just have off days. Why, I have no idea… Maybe it starts raining, or I can’t find my pace or I didn’t sleep well the night before. At that moment, I have a choice. I can do something and be obedient to the call of trying to get my body in shape, or not even attempt it because I know it’s not going to be perfect.

If I acted on only the things I could do perfectly, let me tell you what people… I would probably never get out of bed. I wouldn’t blog. I wouldn’t exercise. I wouldn’t minister to people. The list goes on and on.

Here’s the deal. God doesn’t call the equipped. He equips the called. Think to yourself for a moment: What is God calling you to right now? What’s stopping you? Is it your fear of not being “perfect?” How can you turn to the Lord to ask for help? I would love to hear your feedback… Leave a comment below!

Please remember, my sweet readers… God isn’t asking for perfection. He just wants obedience. He made you and He knows how flawed our flesh can be. He also loves you, has called you and knows first hand that when it comes to the population of the world that “Pobody’s Nerfect.” But… We ALL can be obedient.

Living life as a nerfect pobody,
SGK

“And none of us is perfectly qualified. We get it wrong nearly every time we open our mouths. If you could find someone whose speech was perfectly true, you’d have a perfect person, in perfect control of life.” ~James 3:2 (MSG)

PS: Colony Foods (Jeanie’s), which this post was written about, as well as our local Country Diner recently caught fire and burnt down. This is quite the blow to our small town of 300 people. Many memories were made in both places and will never be forgotten. Won’t you please pray for the owners and the resident’s of my hometown? Thanks.

I am really uncoordinated.

For any of you who have met me in person, you will probably be willing to verify this statement. For my sweet readers who know me primarily through this computer screen, let me clarify.

We’ve mentioned in previous entries that I am the girl who tends to fall UP the stairs. I drop things on a semi-regular basis. I think I have even tripped over the lines in the sidewalk before.

And don’t get me started on my inability to play sports. Seriously. The only sport I have ever played kinda-sorta ok-ish that didn’t result in an impressive bruise or bleeding is ultimate frisbee. (I even split my lip open once when I was playing ping-pong. Not kidding.)

Due to my lack of coordination/non-athletic inclination, I have typically found myself in one of three alternate places: On the bench, fulfilling the role of cheerleader or coaching.

Thanks to Jesus moving profoundly (and intensely) in my life, I have a feeling that my “days on the bench” are no longer an easy opt-out option. However, I am still a cheerleader for people in all walks of life, especially as they run after Jesus.

Most recently, I have been called to coach. Not a sports team (insert sigh of relief here!) but rather people.

Last May, I attended Blackaby Ministries International’s Spiritual Leadership Coaching seminar. It was EPIC. (Read about the entire experience HERE.)

I am now in the process of answering the call to be a spiritual leadership coach. You might be a bit curious as to what a “spiritual leadership coach” (SLC) really is… well, here are a few tidbits I picked up from the seminar and throughout my certification process so far.

SLC is similar to life coaching, only with a “Jesus-bent.” It’s a three-way conversation between the coach, God and the coachee. It is not a chance for me to preach or tell folks what is right or wrong. Instead, I am a supporter when it comes to helping others listen, hear and understand how God is moving in their lives.

Think of SLC not necessarily as a sports coach, but more as a means of transportation… you know, the horse and buggy kind of thing. It’s primary purpose is to help or aid a person to get from point A to point B.

When I returned from the SLC seminar last May with this new call, several folks who read/heard about the experience wanted to know how they could get involved.

Well, here is your chance. Blackaby is hosting their next Spiritual Leadership Coaching seminar December 10-12, 2012 in Jonesboro, GA (right outside of Atlanta.) If SLC interests you just a teeny bit, I encourage you pray about it and see what God says. He might give you the go-ahead– and if He does, get signed up ASAP! It was literally a life-changing experience!

(Click HERE for specific information on the seminar and how to get signed up. Oh, and you don’t have to be from GA. At the last seminar, we had folks from 12 different states and 3 countries!)

If you have specific questions about this incredible experience, I would love to talk with you about it– just leave a comment below with your questions, or shoot me an email via sharita{dot}knobloch{at}gmail{dot}com.

OH! I almost forgot– if you would like to be coached and experience SLC as a coachee, I would love to offer you a *FREE* session as I work towards my certification. Again, just leave a comment, shoot me an email at the address above or contact me via Facebook.

Know that if God is calling you to this, He will help you do it– after all, He IS our permanent spiritual leadership coach… Are you ready to answer His call? If so, be bold and say those four magic words: “PUT ME IN, COACH!”

In one of my former jobs, I was the gal who has hired/fired folks. In another job, I was the lady who helped people find jobs, get better jobs or go back to school.

When someone would be interested in a job, we would typically start with a conversation about previous work history, their resume, their skills, etc. We looked for qualifications and attitude. Sometimes it worked out. Other times… Not so much.

Fortunately… God has different standards than most employers.

I talked a little bit about this yesterday in my post called “Pobody’s Nerfect.” (Click here to pop over and catch up.) However, I was led to expand on it just a little bit more…

Yes, God has different standards than most employers. He has a job for us to do. And expects great things out of us. But He doesn’t automatically assume that we are professionals. That’s why HE stays involved as we work to accomplish His mission.

If we were all professionals when it comes to answering His call… We wouldn’t need Him. And that’s not cool.

Source: Brizzle via Flickr

Many people might not think that they have much to offer when it comes to serving God. But just like working in the “real world,” there is a specific job out that that God wants us to do.

One excuse that many people use to ignore the call on their life is the fact that they haven’t been good at it before. A missionary from our church named Nick Cash answers this excuse with this response:

“Falling does not disqualify you from the calling.”

Oh snap. God doesn’t fire us at the first screw up. (Thank goodness, or I would have been “unemployed” long, long ago.) Instead, He keeps training us. He refines us. He coaches us. He grows us.

He takes amateurs and turns us into obedient, good and faithful servants.

And if we keep growing in that area of our lives, we might just get promoted. God may give us something bigger and more challenging to conquer for His glory. (With His help of course.)

Think for just a moment about your work history with the Lord. Have you been a faithful, loyal employee? Or are you coming out of a “Whoops, sorry, I overslept for work- again” season? How can you be a great worker for God? I always love hearing your feedback. Leave a comment below.

You’ve already filled out the job application. God has done the interview and extended the offer. Remember, God doesn’t want professionals. His ad to recruit great workers always reads “Amateurs Wanted. Please Apply.” So let’s get to work.

When I was a pre-teen, I spent a few days every now and then working in a little country store back home. Jeanies was a tiny place with two booths and a menu that consisted of cold sandwiches or fried food.

I can do something and be obedient to the call of trying to get my body in shape, or not even attempt it because I know its not going to be perfect.

I’m pobody, I’m nerfect,
SGK

“And none of us is perfectly qualified. We get it wrong nearly every time we open our mouths. If you could find someone whose speech was perfectly true, you’d have aperfect person, in perfect control of life.” ~James 3:2 (MSG)

As I child, I didn’t get out much. (Hey, we lived on a farm. In the country. At least 15-25 miles from a legitimate restaurant. In fact, the first 10 years of my life found us 90 miles from the nearest Wal-Mart. Seriously.) So when we did get the chance to go ANYWHERE as a family, I wanted to know WHERE we were going… Immediately.

“HEY! WHERE ARE WE GOING!?!” (Imagine this forceful statement in your best childlike slightly whiny/curious voice.)

For those of you who haven’t met my beloved Daddy, he is something of a smart aleck. (Good thing that’s not hereditary, right?) Whenever I asked this oh-so-vital question, it was met with one of the following answers:

“We are going down the road.”

“North.”

“Forward.”

And my all-time favorite…

“We’re going crazy.”

Needless to say, I led quite an exasperating childhood. Unfortunately, I haven’t grown out of this need-to-know attitude. I still do the same thing with my Heavenly Father.

And, not surprisingly, His answers are similar to my Dad’s answers from my days of youth. (Minus the “crazy” response.)

Last week, my beloved boss/coach/mentor/friend Kelli and I attended the Blackaby Spiritual Leadership Coaching Seminar. It was a pilot program and we went not really knowing where it was going to take us.

We went hoping for some information– but came home with transformation. WOWZERS.

On that three day journey, we had an opportunity to experience God at a very deep level. He revealed some incredible things within our hearts. And gave me a new path down which to travel.

He has called me to become certified as a Spiritual Leadership Coach.

It’s a long story, but it was literally life-changing for me. When I realized this affirming call on my life I was excited. I was tearful. I was grateful.

I was terrified beyond all reason.

I didn’t really want to go there. I mean, this was big. Like, potential career stuff. I don’t know what it all looks like for me yet. I tried to convince God that perhaps He had the wrong person. On Friday morning before we departed, we had an opportunity to spend a few moments in His presence as we “Reported for Duty.” (It was a short time of “CRAVE”– experiencing God through prayer and listening.)

As I sat there with my head on my table, arguing with the Lord to change His mind about this Spiritual Leadership Coaching hoopla, He silenced me. He gave me this word:

“My beloved. GO. Go out. Go forward. Go faithfully. Go humbly. Go with Me. Go all out. GO! You don’t have to know specifically where you are going… But go with Me so you can live as you fully went.”

Oh snap. Ok, Jesus. You have my attention. I was encouraged… Yes, I was still nervous to turn in my commitment card to begin down the path of Spiritual Leadership Coach certification, but I knew I had to GO. Just GO.

Is God calling you to something right now? What is holding you back? Where is He asking you to go? What will it take to follow Him? I would love to hear (and be encouraged!) by your thoughts. Please leave a comment below.

Honestly, I don’t know for sure what becoming a Spiritual Leadership Coach looks like. I am not sure where it is going to take this ministry or our lives. However, I do know that I would love to be look back and say that I WENT with all I had. Won’t you join me on this journey? Don’t hesitate. Don’t worry about all the little details, corners or where you will end up. If we are going with Our Father, we know it is going to be the trip of a lifetime. So let’s buckle up and JUST GO.

Right now, we still feel the sting of that landing as we recover from our miscarriage. However, we are slowly but surely paddling to the ladder of safety and recovery on the side… And we await the call when God tells us to dive in again.
