The Broken Leg

As of this writing, my husband has been a soldier in the United States Army Infantry for just shy of 13 years.

Of those 13 years, he has endured three combat deployments totaling 45 months, as well as numerous other intense and potentially dangerous missions/assignments.

We count ourselves incredibly blessed that the Lord has protected him from injury all that time. Because we have many, many friends and battle buddies that cannot say the same.

Well, about a week and a half ago, that injury-free dynamic changed a bit in our family.

Long story short: My husband recently fractured his fibula (the small bone in his leg) when he landed after executing a required jump into Florida with his current job as a Ranger Instructor.

Let’s just say that this turn of events was NOT part of our no-plan-plan. (But are things like this ever on our radar?)  [Read more…]

A Kaleidoscope Perspective (Wives of Faith)

I don’t know what it is about the my current life season, but I feel like it is one big ol’ glob of nostalgia.

Maybe it is the peace of the changing seasons. Or how my toddler grows and changes (and challenges!) me more every day. Or perhaps because I am getting ready to bid my 20’s farewell.

I don’t know what it is, but honestly, I kind of enjoy it.

Any time I have a spare brain moment, God is pulling my mind back to some former seasons of my life. I don’t think of them with loss or regret, but rather recall with fondness.

Faith fact: Ministry is hard. Like cry-until-your-eyes-are-puffy hard. But it is totally worth it, times ten.

I am currently experiencing the hardest season of ministry of my life. You know that part in the bible that talks about bearing one another’s burdens and mourning with those who mourn?

Yeah. Totally wish that wasn’t in there. Because I have been grieving, encouraging and praying for several close friends and I swear– it feels like my heart is in about a million pieces.

But here is the good news: even in our hurt, God is there. So this is a word He shared with me to pass along during our most grief-striken, broken moments.

I pray that this “Letter to the Broken” speaks to any hurting, cracked or shattered hearts that might read it. [Read more…]

I know, I know… They say don’t judge a book by its cover. Well, God recently revealed to me that I shouldn’t judge a seashell by its wholeness… Or lack there of.

Because apparently, broken shells are still beautiful.

If you are reading via email, click here to watch the video.

Dear readers, where do you find beauty in your brokenness? In what ways can you share your story to bring God glory in your everyday? Don’t be shy. Tap into your Jesus-courage and share a comment below.

Let’s not discount our cracks, our fractures, our chips, our scuffs, our smudges, our brokenness. Because only in our brokenness is Christ found.

We are those shells. Broken, but still beautiful.

Whole in Him,

Get Fixed Up (Five Minute Friday)

Hi friends.

After several weeks of sketchy hotel internet, it appears that my on-the-spot Five Minute Friday writing dealio might just work. (But just to make sure, I am throwing out a few prayers. Lil’ help here, J-man.)

Let’s give it a shot.

Quick Five Minute Friday (FMF) background in case you missed the memo. Each week I link up with Lisa-Jo Baker (whose blog/internet is ALSO on the fritz today,) she gives us a prompt and we write– for five minutes.

Simple as that.

And today’s word (no surprise here…)

BROKEN

And go! [Read more…]
