Embracing the Race (Guest Blog)

It’s taken me many years to admit that I am kinda-sort-of a runner. And now, in my current season as more of a pregnant waddler, somewhere deep down, I realize I actually miss running. Especially considering that just a little over a year ago I ran a full marathon and didn’t die.

So whenever I can, I like to support other runners on this quest– especially ones that love Jesus. Today, it’s an honor for me to share a guest post by Lisa Preuett, announcing the release of her new book for Jesus-runners like me. Grab a copy and let’s hit the road. ~SGK

“What’s your pace?”

This is a common question we hear frequently among runners. It’s also a number runners must sometimes enter on race registration forms. It’s easy to obsess about exactly how long it takes one to cover the distance of a mile. [Read more…]

A Book to Heal Your Heart (Giveaway)

In my three decades on this earth, I have been blessed with relatively good health.

But you know, not everyone can say that.

My online friend Shelly is one of those gals.

For the majority of her life, she lived what society might call “normal.” But a few years ago, her health took an unexpected turn.

It’s kind of a long story, but in short, sweet Shelly is now what she calls “chronically ill.” She struggles daily with things/tasks/life experiences that I can’t even comprehend.

However, that hasn’t stopped her from sharing about all things Jesus.

She has recently written her first book– and I have the incredible privilege of reviewing it.  [Read more…]

When More Is Not Enough (Book Review & Giveaway)

My daughter is a smidge over a year and a half old. She is saying several dozen words, but her current favorite word comes as no surprise:

“MORE!”

Everything is more. More milk. More fun. More whatever-is-in-mama’s-salad-bowl. More, more, more, more, MORE.

It is (kind of) cute right now. However, as she grows, we are gonna put the whoa on this more business.

When More is not enoughWhich is a great theory. But can be difficult in our society of more, bigger, better, faster, me, me, me.

Fortunately, there is an AH-MAZ-ING new tool that all of us Jesus-loving parents can add to our arsenal.

Amy’s new book, “When More Is Not Enough: How to stop giving your kids what they want and start giving them what they need.”

Check out the book trailer below (or if you are reading via email, click here.) Then keep reading for more details (AND A GIVEAWAY!)  [Read more…]

I have to be honest… I have always been somewhat of a misfit.

Growing up, I would much rather read inside or go to the library than be frolicking outside in the spring weather.

In high school, I didn’t do ANY sports (unless you count cheerleading for one year.) Our school was teeny-tiny (um, 18 people in our graduating class) so really, anybody who was anybody played sports.

For senior prom, my date and I wore a duct tape outfit.

In college, I didn’t procrastinate– I always did my work ahead of time “just in case.” #nerdalert

My final college spring break wasn’t spent at a tropical beach somewhere… I was in a hotel ballroom at Missouri Auction School becoming a certified auctioneer.

Yep. I have always been kind of a misfit. And that stands true today. [Read more…]

For as long as I can remember, I have been a people pleaser.

I always wanted to get good grades in school. I was paranoid about forgetting something important for class, so I was that middle schooler who always carried around way too many school books “just in case.”

In high school, I was pretty self-conscious about my physical appearance as I was overweight. I tried to ignore it and instead embellished my personality to win others over.

I just wanted to be liked. [Read more…]

Talk His Talk & The Quirky Gift of Gab

Hi. I am Sharita. And I… I am… (gulp) a talker.

Whew. It feels so good just to get that out there. It’s a truth that I have been living with my entire life—and it’s a truth I haven’t always lovingly embraced.

Talking is one of my quirks. Sometimes it makes me feel weird. Or dumb. But as I have drawn near to God on my journey with Him, He has shown me that it’s not a burden or annoyance.

 It’s a gift. [Read more…]

Here’s to Risking Rejection

Ok, peeps. I hope you brought your big girl (or boy) pants. Cuz it’s about to get real all up in here today.

I have dragged my feet writing this post. I have kept a secret locked away deep in my heart, telling only four other living souls. But now, thanks to the continual (loving) prodding from God and my friend Amy’s invitation to link-up and get “risky” in 2014, here goes nothing.

(Wait. I think I need a puke bucket. Nope, false alarm.)

So. Here’s my big secret. My risk. The exciting-terrifying call God has placed on my heart. [Read more…]
