Army of God: “Wilco”

For any of my new readers, I need to bring something to your attention that is vital not only for this post specifically, but for this week and my entire blogging library.

I am a nerd.

Many of you are probably nodding your heads thinking “Uh, duh Sharita.” I personally like to think of myself of somewhat of a sophisticated nerd, but I really do get quite a thrill out of lists, journals, weird numbers concepts/facts. And, as you may have noticed, I love learning new words. Hence the weeklong discussion we have had about Army of God vocab. [Read more…]

Army of God: “Voluntold”

When one gets involved with the army, there is A LOT to learn.

It doesn’t matter if you are actually joining the ranks as enlisted or officer, OR you have been called to marry a beloved soldier… There is going to be a learning curve involved.

Early on in our marriage (ok, let’s be honest, it’s still pretty early… we are only 14 months in) I had to stop Brandon every other sentence and have him translate the gobbledygook that he was trying to communicate.  Even now, I have to put the words through a filter in my army wife head to understand them. Veteran’s Day Every day

Today’s post is very simple. I didn’t write this to simply jump on the bandwagon. It’s Veteran’s day… but for me, as a military spouse (and many of you spouses, parents, daughters, sons, aunts, uncles, friends, grandparent) EVERYDAY is Veteran’s Day.

My beloved has been in the army for nearly eight years. I’ve been in the picture about three of those (ish.)  It is rewarding. It is frustrating. It is cool. It is ever-changing. It is uncertain.  Big picture speaking, our veterans are an incredible blessing. [Read more…]

Army Strong… God Strong!

Being an army wife is…

I leave that statement blank because my army-wife life/attitude varies daily. Some of the adjectives that can fill in that blank include rewarding, frustrating, educational, encouraging, challenging, exciting etc.  I never regret my decision to walk down the aisle with my beloved Infantryman/Drill Sergeant Brandon, but I must admit that sometimes I question how God decided to call me to this experience. But then I remember 1 Thessalonians 5:24– “The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.” [Read more…]

The Enemy Doesn’t Wear Combat Boots

We are all fighting a battle. Some of us more than one. As an army wife (specifically: Infantryman/current Drill Sergeant’s wife), it sometimes seems like the battles are never-ending. I battle with maintaining patience, changing schedules, miscommunication, all while attempting to continually support my Beloved Husband in his quest to defend this mighty country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. But whether you are an army spouse, doctor’s spouse, farmer’s spouse or any son or daughter of Christ,  we are all fighting the same spiritual Enemy. [Read more…]

Puppies & Potato Salad

This mission I have dubbed Operation: Commissary of Christ. Lace up your “army” boots. Put on your helmet. For we are not an Army of One, but rather An Army of the Son! AMERICA!

It happened last Saturday and was very spur of the moment. I had just finished this week’s reading and viewing this weeks videos for my masters class a few hours before summoning the motivation to go to the commissary here on post at Fort Benning. I have discovered that while the commissary is a place of convenience to buy groceries at a decent price, it is rarely a place of peace or joy. [Read more…]
