In the Lord’s Army #SDG Connections

I never thought it would happen, but I have finally gotten used to it. Sort of.

I check the clock, certain that at least six hours have passed. But it has only been three minutes. Sigh.

I make plans, but I always write in pencil. Sigh again.

My heart no longer jumps into my throat every time the phone rings. Sigh. (Do you see a pattern here?)

Yes. I am Jesus lover AND an army wife. And just because I say I have gotten USED to this call, it doesn’t mean it is easy. [Read more…]

I wouldn’t say that I am an overly needed person.

Yeah, I “need” basic things like food, water, shelter, clothing (because trust me– nobody wants to see otherwise) but for the most part, I am pretty simple.

Although, I have to admit– I need other things in life– not physical needs, but heart needs.

And fortunately, Jesus in my everyday supplies what I need. He delivers– physically, spiritually, emotionally, the whole shebang. [Read more…]

Ever-Changing Grace (#Everyday Jesus Linkup)

If you have been a Christian for more than 33 seconds, you have probably sang and subsequently fallen in love with the song “Amazing Grace.”

And rightfully so. It is an incredible song. Wonderful lyrics, powerful truth and encouraging melody.

As daughters of Christ, we can and should be endlessly thankful for the Amazing Grace He bestows upon us.

But as an army wife, mama and minister, sometimes I beg Him for grace… specifically the kind that changes with my heart needs as the world around me changes.

Because CHANGE. IS. HARD. With the constant, never-ending changes that seem to come hand-in-hand with military life, I need many different kinds of grace. [Read more…]

The Enemy Doesn’t Wear Combat Boots

Hi friends… For the next several weeks, Wednesdays will be dedicated to re-sharing some of my favorite posts. I am so blessed to be working on some “big rocks” and pretty awesome God-sized dreams, but I need time to make that happen. So after much prayer, here we are. I pray you enjoy these words… And thanks for extending me Christ-like grace. Oh. And everything is still business as usual for our Thursday #EverydayJesus link-up, so don’t miss it!

We are all fighting a battle. Some of us more than one. As an army wife (specifically: Infantryman’s wife), and a mama, AND a minister,  it sometimes seems like the battles are never-ending. I battle with maintaining patience, changing schedules, miscommunication, all while attempting to continually support my Beloved Husband in his quest to defend this mighty country against all enemies, foreign and domestic, keep my daughter from licking an electrical outlet and still do Jesus-y things for God. It’s a lot sometimes. But whether you are an army spouse, doctor’s spouse, farmer’s spouse or any son or daughter of Christ,  we are all fighting the same spiritual Enemy. [Read more…]

Not-So-Serious Business (Army Wife Network)

In every single one of my husband’s professional army pictures, he looks so…  Angry.  (You thought I was going to say handsome, didn’t you? He does look handsome, but in a grouchy kind of way.)

I know, I know—it is kind of the culture. Our men in the army are tough guys and these photos are professional purposes, not for posting obnoxious selfies on Facebook to Twitter or for saving as our phone wallpaper.

Although I tease him about the intensity of his pictures, I have a slight confession to make: Sometimes I approach life the same way.

Don’t get me wrong, I love to smile. And in my “natural” environment, I am a giggly, bubbly person. But sometimes I allow myself to get bogged down with the “seriousness” of life. Then my attitude looks more somber and scary than even my hubby’s drill sergeant photo.

And nobody wants to see THAT. #Terrifying

So today, we need to talk about some not-so-serious business:  Life. Laughter. And how they can work together.

Not so serious business

Want to read the rest of this not-so-serious-yet-hopefully-humorous post? Pop on over to Army Wife Network to check it out. Pretty please? (Don’t make me beg. You know I will do it.)

5 Love Languages: Military Edition (Book Review/Guest Blog)

Marriage. It’s one of the most rewarding yet challenging experiences we can be called to in life.  Paul even tells us in 1 Corinthians 7:28 that “…those who marry will face many troubles in life…”

So yeah, marriage isn’t easy. And when you add the military factor to marriage… Things can get sticky in a hurry if you don’t have your feet on a solid foundation.

Which is why we need all the Godly guidance, tools and encouragement we can get.  “The 5 Love Languages: Military Edition” covers all those bases…

Hidden Ah-Ha’s: Stay with God~Don’t Quit.

Henry Blackaby said “Waiting is one of the hardest yet most important things we will ever do as Christians.”

I, personally, think that’s an understatement.

Think to yourself about how much time you spend waiting…

Waiting for the traffic light to turn green…

Waiting for the microwave to beep so you can enjoy those delicious leftovers…  [Read more…]

Pictures of Faith

In case you missed the memo, we recently moved.

And by moved, I really mean traveled 79 total driving hours in the car with a 4-month-old baby for 3,785 miles.

Good times.

Along the way, we had the opportunity to have some great family moments– as well as several incredible Jesus moments. Today, I would like to share a few highlights of God’s splendor (and some funny tidbits) from our trip of a lifetime during our PCS army move from Fort Benning, Georgia to Fort Lewis, Washington. God’s Country

I have to be honest with you. Sometimes I worship best OUTSIDE of the church doors.

Literally. As in, out of doors. I’m not your hardcore sleep-in-the-woods-for-weeks-on-end kind of gal, but I sure do appreciate the majesty that is God’s creation.

Recently, as we were traveling across this great country per our move with the army, I had a pretty legit opportunity to worship God via His creation through 14 different states. We traveled 3,785 miles (but who was counting??) and I added hundreds of gifts to my 1000 gift list (that has now busted past 2000.) [Read more…]
