A Ruck March Marriage

You might have noticed that several of my Friday posts have been “reposts” from previously published material. It’s not that I don’t have lots of new and crazy ideas about faith,  but rather it is due to moving cross-country and not having a promise of a legit internet connection. So doing Five Minute Friday on the spot might be a little sketch til we get settled.

So today I would like to share with you a post that was featured as my first ever guest post… It brings a lot of great memories and I pray that it provides some encouragement in your walk with Christ! ~SGK  [Read more…]

Sticky Leadership: The Good, the Bad and the Downright Ugly

Leadership.

It’s a source of influence. It’s a source of inspiration. It’s a spiritual gift. It can be used vocationally.

And it can also teach us… a lot.

Leadership is something I am very passionate about– and not only in a Biblical sense. My minor in college was leadership studies and I have always enjoyed working alongside self-less, heart-driven leaders.

Before I get too far into it, I ask that you open your mind to the leadership perspective– most people have a sliver of leadership in them somewhere… it doesn’t have to be leading a church or a huge corporation. It can be fulfilling the role as a parent to your children leading them to Christ or simply being a subtle witness at the coffee shop. On that note… [Read more…]

Bubble Wrap Faith

Oh bubble wrap. The magical packing material that has been causing squabbles among siblings for decades.

Or was that just my sister and I who fought over who got to pop those addictingly-fun little bubbles? Either way, ya just gotta love the multi-purposeful qualities of bubble wrap. [Read more…]

It Ain’t Easy Being Green

I’ve learned some great lessons over the years… from muppets. (Yeah, I said it.)

Growing up, it was Sesame Street… Big Bird, Mr. Snuffleupagus, Oscar the Grouch, Burt and Ernie… I learned that sharing is the right thing to do, that C is for cookie (that’s good enough for me, cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C!–Anybody else remember that song?) and many other life lessons that have served me well the last 27 and a half years.

I’ve also learned a lot from other muppets– perhaps the more widely known clan… Yes, THE MUPPETS. Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear (Waka, waka!) and of course~ Kermit the Frog. [Read more…]

The Exception

What is your first thought when you think of the word “exception?”

Do you think it is something special? Something unattainable? A person, place or thing that is out of the ordinary?

If so, then you would be right. Sorta. Ish.

Webster defines exception as “an instance or case not conforming to the general rule.” That makes sense, right?

But what about being an exception in the world? Or even more so… In our walk with Christ?? [Read more…]

Our Own Set of Footprints

You can tell a lot about someone’s footprints.

No, I don’t mean what type of shoes they wear or what size their feet are. Footprints can often tell us where someone’s been… and perhaps where they are going. [Read more…]

Shoulder Padded Jesus Power

Today’s family time in South Dakota began with a conversation about shoulder pads.

The topic was brought up by my beloved husband, and no, we weren’t talking about manly football shoulder pads. As we half-watched a rerun of Matlock, Brandon spouted off “Why does that chick’s shoulders look like that? Is she wearing… shoulder pads!?!”

Mama Lex (my mother-in-law) and I looked at one another. Here we go.  This is gonna be good.

Thus started our extremely random conversation about the who’s, whens, wheres and whys of shoulder pad fashion. Precious, right? [Read more…]

Back to School Bonus

Our dog Sweet Justus loves elementary school days.

I am not talking about MY school days– because for me, working on my masters online, everyday is a school day– and I don’t have to go anywhere. (Praise Jesus!) But Justus loves little kid school days. Brandon and I obviously don’t have kids of our own yet, but  there are passels (flocks? gaggles?) of small little school children all throughout our neighborhood. Fortunately for our lil baby dog, we usually time our morning walk-jogs just right for the kids to be waiting at the multiple bus stops to head to school. [Read more…]

Deep Fried & Covered in Chocolate

Living in the south makes me hungry! (Can you say Paula Deen??)

Correction…. Living in the United States makes me hungry! (ORDER UP!)

Additional Correction… Living makes me HUNGRY! (Om nom nom)

I love to eat. Maybe you do too. It has evolved from a necessary means of survival to a social event, a cultural experience and and a daily conversation (argument?) among people. “What’s for supper? Where do you want to eat?” Oftentimes, it is a daily battle to stay focused on the “big picture” of staying healthy and eating “properly.” (Let’s be honest… many of us wouldn’t really have an issue with eating fried chicken, mashed potatoes and chocolate cake every day if we knew it wouldn’t lead us down a scary path! If I had the metabolism of a 3 yr old, you bet I would partake!) [Read more…]
