Operation Fortitude Fitness (Month #5)

Is it seriously June? Last I checked, June is month #6 in our calendar, which if my stellar math skills prove correct means we are nearly halfway done with 2012… seems like just 5 minutes ago we were ringing in the New Year.

I guess time flies when you are living for Jesus.

But a new month means another monthly reflection of my Smart Goals for 2012. So let’s hop to it! [Read more…]

Enjoy the Ride

The sun was bearing down on our necks. I tried to smoothly fan my armpits to make sure sweat didn’t show. I peered around the dude wearing huge flowered shirt in front of me, who was eating a corndog and funnel cake at the same time.

Was this line EVER going to move? HURRY. UP.

Those were the days of theme park rides. I have to say that I have (sadly) grown out of that thrill, but for a teenager, “riding rides” was as good as it got. (Sidenote: unless you have a super strong stomach, don’t eat a corn dog and funnel cake right before you get on a ride that is name something along the lines of “Roller Coaster of Doom…” you will most likely embarrass yourself and gross out everyone around you. Just sayin.) [Read more…]

On an Adventure

(Insert intense sounding music here)

“From the African deserts of the Sahara… To the Jungles of the Amazon… Across the desolate prairie…. Through the frozen tundra of the Arctic… Around your own living room… IT’S AN ADVENTURE!!”

Did you start singing in your head “One of these things is not like the other?” If so, don’t feel bad. I woke up the other day singing “This is the song that never ends” from Lambchop for absolutely no reason AT ALL. (This is the song that never ends… it just goes on and on my friend… some people, started singing it not knowing what it was, but we’ll continue singing it forever just because this is the song that never ends…) [Read more…]

A Spirit of Discovery

I’m not gonna lie… Sometimes I miss being a little kid.

Ok, I will admit—I am still clinging to some of my childish ways, like getting really excited to go out for ice cream (although now I prefer frozen yogurt) or enjoying a good Disney movie (most recent favorite: Tangled.) But as I returned home to Kansas for a visit, my little dog Justus reminded me of childhood aspect that we should all hold onto. [Read more…]

A Banjo and a Bible

I love going back to my roots.

I am a country girl and proud of it. I grew up loving agriculture, nurturing baby calves (and various other creatures) on our back porch and still get a little thrill from putting on my cowgirl boots that I got at the American Royal five years ago.

Kansas (where I am from) definitely isn’t “The South.” But this weekend, I had a chance to get a little splash of country– only to a much higher degree. [Read more…]

Here’s to Kicking the Bucket… list (Part 1)

If you have ever been engaged in a conversation with me for more than 18 minutes, chances are I have mentioned my “Bucket list.”

I don’t talk about my Bucket List to say “Oooo looky at all the ‘cool’ things I have done.” Because honestly, most of them aren’t cool. They are probably borderline nerdy. But I’ve come to terms with this. My Bucket List is important to me a for a few reasons:

1. I love making lists.

2. God has designed me to be a person who enjoys working towards things and having goals– even if they are nerdy goals.

3. It makes a great conversation piece.

4. Gives me an excuse to do some pretty random stuff.

5. I can revel and thank God for all of the awesome little things in life that make me happy! [Read more…]

Excited & Can’t Hide It

When was the last time you were excited?

I am not talking about the “Oooo Monday is over” kind of excitement or “Yay a new season of my favorite show starts tonight.” I mean the “brain-churning, stomach-fluttering, pulse-pounding, heart-gonna-burst-outta-my-chest, can’t-wait-to-tell-my-boss/spouse/family/friend about it” kind of excitement. I love that feeling. WHOOT! [Read more…]
