God Is My Life

How much God is there in your life?

It’s a hard and rather loaded question. I would love to answer that God is 110% of my life, but while He IS a big part, He is just that… A part.

I am on a constant journey to make God my entire life. The reason for living. For getting up in the morning.

I want God to BE MY LIFE.  [Read more…]

Faith and Feelings: Frustrated

Photo courtesy of Jonathan Robison via Flickr

Sometimes I get so frustrated I just want to scream. Or punch something. Or hide in the closet and inhale a bag of chocolate.

But I refrain. (Most of the time, anyways.)

There are so many experiences in life that can produce frustration. Perhaps its a continual miscommunication with our spouse. I could be a teething baby who refuses to nap. Maybe it is that pesky bathroom scale with numbers that refuse to budge even after you have worked your tail off the last week.

Frustration is everywhere and is one of the important “feelings” to discuss in our “Faith and Feelings” series. Fortunately for us, we aren’t alone in our frustration.  [Read more…]

Tears in the Dark

It had been such a hard day.

Oh heck, who was I kidding? It had been a hard few weeks. I had been running pretty hard for several days in a row, struggling to fulfill my leadership roles, do ministry and most of all, parent our sweet, anti-sleep teething, feverish 11-month old daughter while my husband was away for two months with the army.

Not only was I physically weary, but emotionally I was tapped out. My heart was heavy from sharing the burdens of life with a few friends in ministry. When bedtime for my daughter rolled around that night, it was the first time I had paused all day.

As I sat there rocking her in the dark, listening to the synthetic raindrop sounds from her white noise machine, I took a deep breath and accessed my heart. [Read more…]

Appreciate the Mountaintop

Sometimes I really take God for granted. Perhaps you do to.

Just think about how many times we nearly forget about God when things are going great then fall to our knees when our world comes crashing down.

If we aren’t grounded in faith all the time then those hard moments can turn into griping and grumbling sessions instead of petitions for help. I think there is a delicate yet very attainable balance we can reach with just a small shift of our perspective. [Read more…]

Faith & Feelings: Happiness

Quick! Think fast. When was the last time you were really, truly HAPPY?

Got it? I hope that you mentioned a time within the last week or so.

If not, we have got some work to do, be it perspective shifting or some heart encouragement. Heads up to those who are just now joining us… we are currently in the middle of a series looking at how our faith and feelings interact, as well as how Jesus did (or didn’t) experience those emotions. Not So Small (Five Minute Friday)

Five Minute Friday

Happy Friday, all! Before we dig into Five Minute Friday with Lisa-Jo, just wanted to let you know that today I am making my debut as a blog contributor for Army Wife Network. So where were we? Oh yeah, Five Minute Friday, the time of the week where we come together as a community, link up and write for five minutes.

Easy peasy, right?

Let’s get to it.

Today’s prompt: SMALL

AND GO! [Read more…]

Fruit of the Spirit in Parenting

Fact: Parenting is HARD.

Not all days, but a lot of the days (or at least part of most days) is a challenge like I have never experienced before. For all you parents out there, I imagine you are probably nodding your head and whispering under your breath “Amen, girl.”  For those of you who aren’t parents, don’t check out. Because God can use ALL of our situations and seasons to develop fruit within us.

By fruit, I don’t mean apples, bananas or grapes. This is Spiritual fruit– even sweeter, albeit much harder to grow. [Read more…]

In the Principal’s Office

Growing up, I was terrified of getting in trouble.

Not with my parents, mind you. Don’t worry. I’m sure my shenanigans causes them more gray hairs (sorry, Mama) and lost hairs (sorry, Daddy) than my parents would like to recall. Oh no, I wasn’t afraid of getting in trouble with them.

But when it came to “authority” figures like teachers? Oh yeah, I was Miss Angelic Child of the Year. (My parents always wished this attitude carried over at home. Sorry again, ‘Rents.)

In my entire youth, I am relatively certain I only got legitimately sent to the principal’s office two times. This doesn’t include the times that I went there willingly “just to chat.” Yes, I was that kid. [Read more…]

Faith and Feelings: Anger

Anger. Such a powerful emotion.

This feeling can range from slightly annoyed to seeing-red-smoking-ear-tears-streaming. There’s a lot of power behind that. I have discovered that some Christians take things a bit out of context and say if we are legit Christians, we should never be angry.

Yeah, no. I think not.  [Read more…]
