7 Days Time

Welcome to Wilco Wednesday! If you are a new around these parts, “Wilco” is Army-speak for “Will Comply.” Think of it as saying “Roger, God. Got it. Will do.”  So that is what Wednesday here at 7 Days Time is all about– exploring his decrees and seeking guidance for what complying with Him looks like in everyday life. The best part? He loves us for who we are, not what we do.  Remember: He doesn’t want perfection, just obedience. Share. Enjoy. Interact. Welcome a very Godly, loving woman, my friend Bobbie.

Life can be tough.

My husband doesn’t help me.  He is not present or available to the kids.  We are better off without him during deployments.  If He’s not here, we can’t expect anything of him. Work and friends have a higher priority than his family. Financially, his decisions are ruining us.  I don’t feel secure in his love for us.

In the raging battle for stable families, what happens in the home affects all of us. Single with married friends, active duty single parent, married with or without children, divorced with or without children: we have a bird’s eye view, a front row seat, or are in the battle ourselves.  The struggles are real, and the outcomes are significant. As individuals and as a community of faith, what is our response to the deep and wide heartbreak that surrounds us?  Believers are empowered to do good works, which God ordained for us before the world began (Ephesians 2:10).  How are we wielding our power? A Gratitude Rhyme (Wives of Faith)

The holidays are upon us,
Once again, soon it seems,
Turkeys, family, fun, travel,
And of course those sugarplum dreams.

But really it’s no secret,
That this time of year,
Can make us weary and anxious,
Facing days to come with fear.

However in my walk,
With Jesus our Savior and Lord,
I have discovered a secret,
That just couldn’t be ignored. [Read more…]

The answer was always in front of them. They missed it.

What about you?

Do you suppose that getting married, reviving health, winning the lottery, having a more supportive husband, or raising perfectly behaved children will bring you greater joy or more contentment?

Many women of Scripture struggled to trust God in the difficult places of life. Their fears and hopelessness led them to do things and act in ways that sabotaged their own happiness. [Read more…]

Borrowed Faith

I used to have a “thing” about borrowing stuff.

I don’t know if it was pride, fear or just the overall pressure of not breaking/losing/abusing said borrowed item.

But once I answered the call into ministry, I got over that. Quick, fast and in a hurry.

As most of you know, I have now been working primarily for “Jesus dollars” for the last 4.5 years. Yes, “money” that has little spending value here in this world (apparently Wal-Mart doesn’t take Jesus checks #AskMeHowIKnow) but the reward of cashing in when I get to heaven is said to be legit.  [Read more…]

“From ghoulies and ghosties, and long leggedy beasties, and things that go bump in the night, good Lord deliver us.”  -From an old English litany

Halloween is upon us again and with it, cold weather and long sweaters. I love this time of year. I love Halloween and I love dressing up. I love being warmed to the core by hot cider during an especially crisp Autumn day.

Also, I love being “scared” from not-too-spooky stories. Honestly, I am not one for watching truly scary movies anymore. The scariest I can handle is Vincent Price or the cult classics like Dracula, Wolfman, and Frankenstein. (Ok, and Beetlejuice.) Moreover, I believe there are too many truly scary things in this world to find much entertainment in a movie about supernatural stuff and people tearing one another apart.  This fallen world in itself is scary enough as it is!

So, on that note… Let’s talk about FEAR. (I know. Everyone’s favorite subject. Hang with me.) What do I fear? I fear many things, not the least of all on the list is being an ineffective tool for the Lord’s use. [Read more…]

A Poetic Tribute: Dear Army Wife

Dedicated to all current, former and future army wives. We appreciate you. And hang in there, sister. You can do this.

Dear Army Wife,
I see you standing there,
Know this little tribute,
Is just something to say, “We care!”

To quite the daunting goal,
To love and support your soldier,
No matter the effort or toll. [Read more…]

If you have a little girl, or are a “little girl” at heart yourself, then you’ve probably seen the new version of Disney’s Cinderella. I am indeed that “little girl” at heart, especially when it comes to sweeping love stories with a good heart message. I’ve seen and read several versions of this romantic tale, but this one really grabbed ahold of my heart. Early in the film, as Cinderella’s mother is dying, she tells her young daughter “I want to tell you a secret. A great secret that will see you through all the trials life can offer. Have courage, and Be Kind. It has power, more than you know!”

WOW! What a message and I’m glad it was a running theme throughout this film. Why? Because I was bullied as a kid. A lot of it had to do with the fact that I lost my mother at a very early age, and my father wasn’t in the picture. And some had to do with the fact that I was a Christian. I was teased relentlessly. 10 Faith-Full Habits that Changed my Life (Part 2)

Last week, I shared the first of five faith-full habits that the Lord has used in the last few years to transform my heart. (Did you miss it? Catch up and read all about it here.)

Today, I am continuing this conversation with the second five habits. All of the habits shared in this mini series have impacted me in great and powerful ways in various seasons of my life. So let get back to it, shall we?

6. I intentionally memorize Scripture. Over the years, I have dabbled in this a bit, like ones in a moment/season that I desperately needed for a crisis. (Philippians 4:6 anyone?) And I sort of attempted to start memorizing the book of 1 John. But it wasn’t with passion or intention. I was doing it for pride, not to become closer to and more equipped in the Lord. Now,  a fresh fire has been lit. I am memorizing scripture to KNOW what God’s word says how to live. I can see how it is gradually making me face my own sin (yuck) and teaching me how to live, react and respond in more of Christ-like manner. (YAY!) I am a learner, so this feeds into my passion. (I just wonder why it took me so long to realize this!) [Read more…]

I used to teach middle school language arts and social studies. One of the main goals I had for my students was that they become critical thinkers. Because our educational system is severely messed up, critical thinking has been shoved to the side in place of tests and academic scores. But, I digress. I waded backwards through the typical teaching structure because I believe that critical thinking is important to life.

I taught my students to understand logical fallacies. We would dissect news articles, ads, and blog posts. I made them ask me why, and in turn, I would ask them why as well. Even though it sounds like I was trying to teach my students to be obstinate, authority rebelling stinkers, I was not (plus, I knew that they would learn to do that on their own—with or without my lessons). I was attempting to teach my students the value of logical reasoning, something that would pack a more useful life punch than comparing the book and movie versions of Lord of the Flies. [Read more…]

10 Faith-Full Habits that Changed my Life (Part 1)

God blows my mind on a daily basis.

Some days He shows up in the most unexpected places. Other times, He straight up blesses my face off. On some occasions, I powerfully feel him as He bestows peace that passes understanding in the realm of future junk I have zero control others.

And some times, He rocks my world by reminding me of where my heart used to be and how He has transformed it today. [Read more…]
