Not a Show Stopper

I am a recovering Chicken Little.

No, I don’t have issues with feather tendencies or a waning poultry aversion. But up until the last few months, I have been living quite a Chicken Little life.

Everything in my world was very dramatic. Not like “OMG-No-You-Didn’t” dramatic, but “Oh-plans-have-changed-the-sky-is-falling-we-are-all-gonna-die!” Something like that. [Read more…]

Fact: I am not the Energizer Bunny.

If I had my way, I would be– the person that just keeps going and going and going… But ’round these parts, I am all about being authentic. So endless spiritual energy is not a thing for me.

And I think if we are honest with ourselves, we will agree to this truth: Even the strongest Christians’ game faces occasionally get tired.

On any given day, at least one of my regular game faces is a little bit weary: my army wife game face, my mama game face, my minister game face, my fitness game face. [Read more…]

We all know that making the conscious heart decision to follow Jesus is a life-changer.

Correction: It is an eternity-changer.

Lately, the Lord has taken this whole “Follow Me” thing to a new level in my heart through the duration (and subsequent conclusion) of this Lenten season.

Yes, when that tomb was empty on that glorious Sunday morning, it changed my eternity. But the revelations He revealed to me the last couple of months has changed my right-now life. [Read more…]

Practicing what we Preach: Grace

It was a typical night.

Baby girl and I had completed the day, successfully avoiding major tear-filled meltdowns (from either one of us.)

Hubs came home after his normal 12+ hours of doing army-ish things. Supper was consumed. And then the debate began.

We were both tired from the day (ok, life in general) and we started negotiating on who would give Tiny Human a bath. She was sticky all over and had somehow managed to get smashed blueberry in her hair– and stuck on her forehead.

We recently changed her nightly routine from supper, play, bath, bedtime to supper, bath, play, bedtime. It seemed to be working and I am a huge proponent of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

But Brandon agreed to give her a bath *if* he could do it right before bedtime.

Exhausted, I agreed. Anything to keep the peace, right?

Well. [Read more…]

The following post will probably involve awkward and TMI (too much information) moments.

So read at your own risk.

To catch  you all up, there are a few things you need to know:

1. This year is the year I learn how to run.

2. Buying workout gear is fun… yet not cheap. (Hello, Goodwill!)

3. Genetics (and Jesus)  made me one of the most “pear-shaped” people on the planet. [Read more…]

Women at Work WoF

The summer I turned 16, I entered the working world… well, at least during the summer.

Since then, I have been blessed/challenged to work in a variety of fields and locations. Some have been amazing, others not so much. Here is a quick taste of my occupational adventures:  [Read more…]

All Tied Up (Repost)

Hi friends… For the next several weeks, Wednesdays will be dedicated to re-sharing some of my favorite posts. I am so blessed to be working on some “big rocks” and pretty awesome God-sized dreams, but I have to have time to make that happen. So after much prayer, here we are. I pray you enjoy this experience and thanks for extending me Christ-like grace. Oh. And everything is still business as usual for our Thursday #EverydayJesus link-up, so don’t miss it!

Sometimes in life, we find ourselves tied up in mess.

Perhaps it’s a big mess.

And when we end up in aforementioned life mess, rarely is it “on purpose.”

Actually it reminds me of one of my favorite childhood responses when questioned about why I ate dog food/made my sister stick her tongue to a frozen iron pole/blended up a spatula in a batch of zucchini brownies… [Read more…]

Confession: It is so easy for me to rejoice and see Jesus in my everyday when things are going great. When life is hunky-dory. When it is smooth sailing.

But when those waters of life get a little bit rough? Yikes. I feel a bit like Peter, sinking below the water’s surface.

Why? Because I took my eyes off Christ.

You may be up against a big challenge. That just means you need to get ready. You're about to see a promise come to pass

Get Risky (Link-up)

There’s something you should know about me.

I’m not the biggest fan of heights. Perhaps I should be more specific: I’m not the biggest fan of “risky” heights.

I can fly in a plane with little worries. I can climb a mountain (A medium sized-one, anyways. This postpartum bod can only do so much.)  I’ve been to the top of the Sears Tower and St. Louis Gateway Arch and managed not to flip out.

But when it comes to open air high-flying adventures? Um, yeah. No thanks. It’s gonna be a cold day in Orlando before you catch me jumping out of an airplane at 30,000 feet. (Sidenote: I know it can get cold in Orlando– the one time I was there, it frosted. So skydiving IS on my bucket list, but if I ever do it, it will not be premeditated, but rather a spur-of-the-moment-let-me-down-I’ve-changed-my-mind kind of thing.) [Read more…]

Five Truths: How to Pray Out Loud

A while back, a good friend of mine approached me and said this:

“Sharita, I love when you pray out loud. Your prayers are so moving and real and you don’t seem nervous at all. How did you learn to do that?”

I said thank you (and still give God all the glory) then I pondered for a moment and answered the best I could on the spot. But really, a loaded question like that takes awhile to answer in full, so of course I wanted to shed some light on the topic with all of my loverly blog followers. [Read more…]
