It is only three tiny letters. One syllable. But it has changed my life over and over and over again.

Y-E-S. That short little word, “yes.” Seems pretty insignificant. But my yesterday, today and tomorrow are all changed because of it.

One of my little yet significant yes’s happened when I was twelve-years-old, attending Vacation Bible School in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. One minute I was in the pews singing little kid songs about deep, wide love and the next thing I knew, I was at the front of the church with tears streaming down my face.

That is the day I said yes to Jesus.

Say Yes

Fast-forward ten years. I had been coasting through life, doing my own thing, following my plans. It was 40 days until college graduation. A blue-eyed soldier asked me to dance.

I said yes. Then one deployment/18 months later, I said yes again.

Again, this yes found me at the altar… Only this time, I was wearing white and making a promise to my Beloved.

Before I said “yes” to my husband at the altar, I went through a season of loneliness, sadness and storms. But God presented me with a new opportunity to say yes to His sweet, loving whispers that echoed in my ears. He asked me to follow Him, with my whole heart, submitting to His plans, trusting me with my life.

So I said yes…again. And this time? I was going to live it.

A later season found my husband and I in a new home in Georgia. I approached Kelli at our new church and asked if she could find somewhere for me to volunteer. My husband was busy as a drill sergeant and I felt an urge to branch out into something new, although I didn’t know what it was.

A few days later, she asked me this question: “Sharita… Have you been called to ministry?”

Through my tears, I said yes.

God led us to start our own ministry.

We said yes.

He called us to let go of our fears and start a family.

We said yes.

We miscarried. He said to trust Him.

We said yes.

We later had a daughter and He said to rejoice, learn and grow under His Lordship.

So we said yes. Again. Again. And again.

Friends, here I am. A few years later and several yes’s later.  I am still saying YES to God. Just three little letters. But those little letters, that one tiny syllable has changed my life more times that I can count.

That seemingly mundane word has the power to change your life too.

Take a moment to think about how Jesus might be asking you to say yes in your everyday? How can you allow this tiny word to change your world in really big ways? I welcome your feedback. Feel free to join the conversation by leaving a comment.

Dear readers, take heart and know that nothing is “small” in this world when we are doing it for Him.

That tiny little word, YES, can have huge impact when it comes from the Greatest One who ever existed.

So are you ready? Willing? Able and available?

Because maybe… just maybe… It is time to change in big ways.

It is time to say yes.
