The Wheels on the Bus

It’s been years since I’ve ridden on a school bus route for the sole purpose of getting to and from school.

Even now though, I still can’t see one of those big, yellow behemoths without being briefly taken back to my youthful days of riding the bus.

When I was in elementary school, we lived in rural North Central Kansas. North Central as in, seven miles from Nebraska. And rural as in, 90 (yes 90!) miles from the nearest Wal-Mart. So five days a week for year after year, I rode the big yellow school but from our house ten miles to town and back again.

Hidden Ah-Ha’s: We are not Orphans

Growing up on a farm, we “adopted” dozens of orphaned baby animals to raise through the years.

Sometimes it was a family of tiny baby bunnies after a dog got ahold of their mama. Or maybe some kittens who’s mom went MIA. (We always waited for her to come back… but she didn’t.) Perhaps it was the baby calves who were born during a blizzard and took up residence in our bathtub, back porch or garage til they were back on their feet or a new mama could be found for them. Sometimes it was a baby bird who had fallen from the nest. You name it… we probably tried to raise it. [Read more…]

5 Love Languages: Military Edition (Book Review/Guest Blog)

Marriage. It’s one of the most rewarding yet challenging experiences we can be called to in life.  Paul even tells us in 1 Corinthians 7:28 that “…those who marry will face many troubles in life…”

So yeah, marriage isn’t easy. And when you add the military factor to marriage… Things can get sticky in a hurry if you don’t have your feet on a solid foundation.

Which is why we need all the Godly guidance, tools and encouragement we can get.  “The 5 Love Languages: Military Edition” covers all those bases…

Hidden Ah-Ha’s: It’s not a Vocabulary Issue

Welcome to 7 Days Time.

Today, we will be talking about vomit.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! WAIT! Don’t leave. We aren’t talking about THAT kind of well, ya know… (Sheesh, give me some credit, man. Gross.)

I’m talking about WORD vomit. You know, that flow of words that just seems to bubble up out of the depths of your being and spew everywhere before you can say, “I think I’m going to be sick.”

Something that I am (unfortunately) pretty familiar with. SIGH. [Read more…]

Why there are Bookshelves in My Dining Room

I am so thankful for the wide variety of random gifts and talents God has so generously given me.

I can write. (Well, at least let’s hope, or this 400+ blogging website is a real issue.) I can sing-ish. And I can even auctioneer. (I’m serious. Maybe I will do a vlog of that someday just for fun?)

But one gift I do not possess? The gift of design when it comes to coordinating a room/decor.

Seriously, up until our current home, I called my design “randomly eclectic.” [Read more…]

Hidden Ah-Ha’s: Stay with God~Don’t Quit.

Henry Blackaby said “Waiting is one of the hardest yet most important things we will ever do as Christians.”

I, personally, think that’s an understatement.

Think to yourself about how much time you spend waiting…

Waiting for the traffic light to turn green…

Waiting for the microwave to beep so you can enjoy those delicious leftovers…  [Read more…]

I’m not the Lord of my Life… (Thankfully!)

I am not the lord of my life… THANK GOD.

I type those words with ease, because if I was lord of my life,  I would be in serious trouble.

But there was a time (not too long ago, might I add) that I really was TRYING to be my own lord. It wasn’t extremely obvious. It’s not like I was building little golden Sharita-idol statues to put around my house and sell on Amazon. (That would be so awkward.) However, I WAS trying to do all, control all, be all to everybody.

And as lovingly as God crafted me, I am NOT made for that.

Neither are you. [Read more…]
