Seriously. I talk a lot. I am very picky about my writing pens (the inkier the better!) When doing a workout, I have this weird desire to end on a round number, usually to the nearest quarter mile.
Yep. I’m weird. And I hope you don’t take offense to this statement– but I bet you are little weird too.

There was a season in my life when I was not very good about asking for help.
That season lasted about 25 years of my life. Then I got married, answered the call to ministry and had a baby. I realized quick, fast, and in a hurry that I needed to get over myself, swallow my pride and not be afraid to ask for help.
Sometimes help might come from a friend. Other times, my husband is able to lend a hand. But most often, I am seeking help from the Lord.

I recently heard a commercial on our local Christian radio station that got me pretty fired up.
It was the founder of E-Harmony, the online matchmaking website. Now, I have nothing against online dating and whatnot– God can use a variety of avenues to bring a man and woman together in marriage. But during the commercial, this dude said something that made me sigh, raise my eyebrows and get a little twitchy.
To paraphrase his statement, he said something along the lines that “the decision of who you marry will have the biggest impact on how happy you will be in life.”

A lot of junky, yucky painful things happen in this world.
Perhaps that is why this joint isn’t heaven? (Thankfully!)
But even amid the pain, trial and suffering, we have a great truth to cling to: God is in charge of this whole show. Every tiny moment.
If He wasn’t in charge, I would be scared. But He is in charge, so I’m not worried.

As a military wife, battling loneliness sometimes feels like a full-time job. Now, don’t get me wrong– I adore my Beloved husband and certainly support his mission. But when he is away doing said mission, grown-up conversation suddenly becomes a hot commodity.
If I am not careful, the cold fingers of loneliness creep into my heart… And Satan goes to town. Satan LOVES it when we are isolated, away from other believers and under the impression we are legitimately alone. [Read more…]

When I was a kid, my birthday was a pretty big deal.
Well, at least it was to me. (Everyone else acknowledged it but didn’t lose sleep anticipating it for weeks on end.)
My birthday was the only day of the year that it really was all about me… and if you have heard a few bits of my testimony, you understand that “I” was kind of my favorite thing.
I looked forward to the party, the gifts, bringing treats to school, the whole shebang. Now a few decades later, my birthday really isn’t that big of deal to me. Yes, I enjoy it but it sure doesn’t have the luster of day days of youth.
But I will tell you one thing that IS exciting about getting older: Celebrating your baby’s birthday. And thanking Jesus for this sweet little life He has bless us with. [Read more…]
