I have mentioned him on here before.

He is a big, ugly, sneaky jerkface.

And no, I am not talking about the guy who cut me off in traffic earlier today on the way to the Sea-Tac Airport. (Name calling real people is not nice. But saying “SERIOUSLY, DUDE?!?!” is totally permitted. I digress.)

No, this big, ugly sneaky jerkface is the enemy. Satan. The devil. Lucifer. The fallen angel of doom.  [Read more…]

Not-So-Serious Business (Army Wife Network)

In every single one of my husband’s professional army pictures, he looks so…  Angry.  (You thought I was going to say handsome, didn’t you? He does look handsome, but in a grouchy kind of way.)

I know, I know—it is kind of the culture. Our men in the army are tough guys and these photos are professional purposes, not for posting obnoxious selfies on Facebook to Twitter or for saving as our phone wallpaper.

Although I tease him about the intensity of his pictures, I have a slight confession to make: Sometimes I approach life the same way.

Don’t get me wrong, I love to smile. And in my “natural” environment, I am a giggly, bubbly person. But sometimes I allow myself to get bogged down with the “seriousness” of life. Then my attitude looks more somber and scary than even my hubby’s drill sergeant photo.

And nobody wants to see THAT. #Terrifying

So today, we need to talk about some not-so-serious business:  Life. Laughter. And how they can work together.

Not so serious business

Want to read the rest of this not-so-serious-yet-hopefully-humorous post? Pop on over to Army Wife Network to check it out. Pretty please? (Don’t make me beg. You know I will do it.)

Speak Life (Video Blog)

How often do we really stop and think about the words we are saying?

I know it is a habit I need to do more… And not just the words, but the tone. You might recall that my Lent experience this year was to give up grumbling and complaining. However, I realized quick, fast and in a hurry that it was going to take more than 40ish days to kick that habit.

So I continue to press forward in watching my words. And today’s video blog is all about encouraging others and truly speaking life. Take a look.

If you are reading via email, click here to watch the video.

So… what are your thoughts? How do you feel when someone speaks life to you? How often do you do that to others? I would love to hear from you… speak up and join the conversation by leaving a comment.

Friends, our words have SUCH power. The Bible addresses this in several different places and context. And apparently this is still something I need to work on because Great Grandma Thrasher’s day-by-day calendar that sits on the kitchen window ledge said this today: “Be careful how you handle your words, for they have more power than an atom bomb.”

(OK, Jesus. You have my attention.)

Take this challenge to intentionally speak life to those around you. Because when we speak life, we gain life.

And there is nothing greater to gain than life in Christ.

Building a Christ-Like Marriage: Communication

Miscommunication. It is one of those seemingly insignificant aspects of our life that remains insignificant until it actually happens and you and your spouse are engaged in a no-rules-who-will-tap-out-first-cage-match situation.

Not that I would know, of course. I mean, Brandon and I communicate perfectly. Flawlessly. We communicate so well, it is practically an art form in our house.

OR NOT.  [Read more…]

Spiritual Misfit (A Giveaway & #EverydayJesus Linkup)

I have to be honest… I have always been somewhat of a misfit.

Growing up, I would much rather read inside or go to the library than be frolicking outside in the spring weather.

In high school, I didn’t do ANY sports (unless you count cheerleading for one year.) Our school was teeny-tiny (um, 18 people in our graduating class) so really, anybody who was anybody played sports.

For senior prom, my date and I wore a duct tape outfit.

In college, I didn’t procrastinate– I always did my work ahead of time “just in case.” #nerdalert

My final college spring break wasn’t spent at a tropical beach somewhere… I was in a hotel ballroom at Missouri Auction School becoming a certified auctioneer.

Yep. I have always been kind of a misfit. And that stands true today. [Read more…]

Pumping Iron with Jesus

Hi friends… For the next several weeks, Wednesdays will be dedicated to re-sharing some of my favorite posts. I am so blessed to be working on some “big rocks” and pretty awesome God-sized dreams, but I need time to make that happen. So after much prayer, here we are. I pray you enjoy these words… And thanks for extending me Christ-like grace. Oh. And everything is still business as usual for our Thursday #EverydayJesus link-up, so don’t miss it!

“Ninety-eight…ninety-nine… one-hundred!”

Oh hey. Didn’t see you there. Sorry, I was just working out… you know, pumping some iron, getting in shape. (Does that sound a little too much like Will Ferrell in Anchorman?)

Obviously, I am not pumping iron… but instead am clicking keys. At a pretty rapid pace, I might add. But I didn’t get to this typing speed overnight. [Read more…]

Baby Steps

For my entire adult life, I have always heard parents talking about the “big” firsts  in their child’s life: First tooth, first solid food, first vacation…

And yep, you guessed it– first steps.

I never really knew what a big deal those first steps were until we had a daughter of our own.  [Read more…]

Building a Christ-Like Marriage: A Heart of Sacrifice

I used to be quite the Bible scoffer.

Yes, you read that right. Bible scoffer. Not Bible beater or Bible reader– Bible Scoffer.

When I first started legitimately walking with Christ as an adult, I can remember ever-so-vividly scoffing, yes, audibly– out loud with a deep raspy throat sound– about any verses that dealt with husband-wife submission and sacrifice.  I can go to the bookshelf right now and show you the exact page where I wrote in my journal 1 Peter 3:1 about “wives, submit to your husband.” It was day two of Brandon and I doing bible study together in our relationship. My words were full of ME, not him. [Read more…]

Sometimes in life, we find ourselves tied up in mess.

Perhaps it’s a big mess.

And when we end up in aforementioned life mess, rarely is it “on purpose.”

Actually it reminds me of one of my favorite childhood responses when questioned about why I ate dog food/made my sister stick her tongue to a frozen iron pole/blended up a spatula in a batch of zucchini brownies… [Read more…]
