Know Thyself… Know Him

It will come as no surprise that I am not what most would call a psychologist or philosopher.

Shoot, I’m not really even much of a theologian. From what I know about myself, I am pretty basic Jesus-is-my-Jam-and-I-want-to-teach-others-about-Him kind of gal.

But hey, it does feel pretty cool to use big words at the beginning of a blog post. #MissionAccomplished

Any who, I am not a profound student of ancient Greek, and in all likelihood, you probably aren’t either. However, most of us have heard the phrase “Know Thyself.”  [Read more…]

The “Missing” Factor (Army Wife Network)

We’ve all heard that oh-so-delightful <sarcasm here> quote, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”

Several years ago, this quote always ticked me off. Mainly because I wanted my dearest, darling, most-handsomest-stud-of-a-new-husband around all the time.

Most of our courtship was long distance, a few short months living four hours apart, then 12 months of a deployment.  By the time our wedding day rolled around, I was over the “absence” part and all geared up for some lovely together-til-death-do-we-part time.

But we all know how the army rolls. And my new stage five clinger self didn’t take it well. [Read more…]

The Power of an Apology in Parenting

I’ve been an In-Real-Life parent to this Tiny Human for more than three-and-a-half years now.

And almost every day, I am reminded that parenting is not for the faint-hearted. Especially now as I am growing another Tiny Human in my currently occupied uterus.

Maybe you are a current (or future) parent sitting out there wondering what my issue is. I mean, perhaps you were born and bred to keep Tiny Humans alive, all while raising them up in the way they should go, complete with daily Pinterest projects that would make Joanna Gaines from Fixer Upper envious.

If that is you, congratulations. Teach me your ways, Yoda. Because parenting is still very much a learning curve for me– even when I intentionally leave out all things Pinterest.  [Read more…]

Embracing the Race (Guest Blog)

It’s taken me many years to admit that I am kinda-sort-of a runner. And now, in my current season as more of a pregnant waddler, somewhere deep down, I realize I actually miss running. Especially considering that just a little over a year ago I ran a full marathon and didn’t die.

So whenever I can, I like to support other runners on this quest– especially ones that love Jesus. Today, it’s an honor for me to share a guest post by Lisa Preuett, announcing the release of her new book for Jesus-runners like me. Grab a copy and let’s hit the road. ~SGK

“What’s your pace?”

This is a common question we hear frequently among runners. It’s also a number runners must sometimes enter on race registration forms. It’s easy to obsess about exactly how long it takes one to cover the distance of a mile. [Read more…]

Travel Log (Appendix) Part 1

Just when you all thought that things were simmering down for our little army family after our cross-country move… We added an “Appendix” to our traveling adventures, due to my commitment and dedication to my best friend Emily was getting hitched (in Kansas City) less than two weeks after my arrival to our new home in Georgia. So, the shenanigans continue… (If you want to get caught up to speed with all things sarcastic/traveling, jump over to read Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4.)

Talk about Monday conflict. My brain/body are rebelling. I’m trying to pack and get ready for another road trip and they are all like, “Um, WE JUST DID THIS. ABORT MISSION. REFUSE TO FUNCTION.”

But my heart is all like, “SHUT UP AND GET IN THE CAR! WE’VE GOT BRIDESMAID-ILY DUTIES TO EXECUTE.”

West bound and down for Emily Surdez’s upcoming nuptials. #LiveLaughLoeb

Travel log, day 12: Hey yo, from Little Rock, AR.

1. Yes, I can count… Travel log days 9-11 were spent semi stationary at my parentals hacienda. Again, no driving = delightful.

2. Grateful for the the awesome hospitality tonight at Chateau De Knoberg (Aka, thanks Brock & Katie!)

3. Driven by the sign several times over the years, but “Toad Suck Park” still makes me lol.

4. Stopped for gas in Russellville, AR… And it reminded me of my summer spent there interning with Cargill Pork. (I waved in that general direction Cindy Woods Looney!)

5. Crushed (aka “Sonic”) ice is the best non-human traveling companion this preggo has thus far discovered.

6. We are one passenger (and a lot of luggage!) lighter as Charis is partying like a Rockstar Toddler the next couple weeks, first with Gma Cj then Gma Lex. I’m a little jealous. #AllTheIceCream

False Motivation is Greater than No Motivation

Normally, I am a very motivated person.

I am a goer. A doer. A get-things-done-er.

But sometimes, I lose my motivation… Like when we are facing a cross-country PCS that we are a teeny-bit-less-than-excited about and the first trimester of pregnancy practically knocks me off my feet. [Read more…]

Surefire indication #2 you are in the middle of a very long road trip:

Husband get out of shower and you catch him doing the “smell test” on his very limited number of T-shirts he brought. ?#ThatsWhenFebreezeBecomesDeodorant
