I thought I was doing everything right.
The fridge had plenty of food.
The socks were picked up off the living room floor.
The laundry was caught up.
Dishes were done.
Supper was cooked.
Blogs written.
Baby nurtured.
Floor vacuumed.
Workout completed.
Prayers said.
So what was I missing? Why did I still feel so… blah?
Suddenly, it came to me.
My life is like a long chain, everything connected. And I was missing a very important link.
I was missing the LOVE link.
I had gotten into a rut of just doing things because they had to be done. Quiet time? Sure, because it was what I did during breakfast. Chores around the house? Guess I better get on it because it was something I thought I was supposed to do. Work out? Fine, but just so I could check it off my training schedule.
I was missing love. I wasn’t doing things for the people or the God I loved–I was doing them just because.
This revelation hit me like a brick. I had taken my eyes off of finding Jesus in my everyday and started focusing on my lists, chores and tasks.
I’d lost that loving feeling. And it was dragging me down.
Satan was having a hay day.
But my heart said no.
So I asked for a major Jesus reset.
Help me, Lord… Help me to find you, seek you, need you, LOVE you in my everyday. Don’t let me do things just for the sake of doing them. Let them be an act of service. Help me to find joy in my everyday-ness.
And do you know what? He did.
I now cook supper for my husband because I love taking care of him after a 14+ hour day of him herding soldiers and serving our country.
I cuddle our daughter as we battle midnight molars not because I am desperate for sleep (although I still am) but because God gave us the privilege to be parents.
I pick up the smelly man-socks from the living room floor with less of a grimace because I know those socks indicate my hubs is still in the same zip code.
Paul said that we can serve with all of our gifts, but if we have not love, our actions are essentially useless.
My daily Jesus chain was whole, rebuilt, repaired– because He restored the missing love link.
Love is the tie that binds. It is a language that transcends heaven and earth.
Love the is Reason we have a hope of seeing Christ face to face someday.
Love is our missing link.
Where in your life do you see the most love as you give and serve? Are there any areas that you need Christ to reset your heart to reconnect the love link? What are they and how do you think that needs to happen? Join the conversation and leave a comment.
Love links us all together. It helps us to find Jesus in our everyday. Because when we get right down to it…
Jesus IS the missing love link.
Linking with Him,
“If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.
If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.
If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.” ~1 Corinthians 13:1-7 MSG
