Leadership is a funny thing.
It’s awesome. It’s challenging. It’s uncertain. It forces us to grow in ways we never considered. It reaches hearts. It touches lives.
And when we put the “Christian” spin on it, it brings Jesus to those who need it.
When I started my leadership journey over 16 years ago, I had no clue that God was already involved in that process.
Back then, it was all about ME.
Now, it’s all about HIM. (Well, mostly. I still have MY days. I’m working on it.)
But for me, leadership is one of the more enjoyable, rich, and unpredictable aspects of my Jesus journey.
I’ve been called (um, thrust?) into positions that I have felt completely NOT equipped to fulfill. (Oh hey, PWOC President…)
However, God came through. As He always does. He has and continues to fulfill one of my favorite Christian leadership quotes:
“God doesn’t call the equipped. He equips the called.”
Yeah. Let that one settle for just a moment.
Personally, the longer I walk with God, the deeper (crazier?) He calls intense leadership positions. Although some days I halfheartedly pray that He “calls” me to long, extended vacation that involves umbrella drinks, in my heart of hearts, I thoroughly enjoy this leadership adventure.
He never ceases to surprise me. And that’s how I know that I’ve grown in the past decade and a half– because I used to despise surprises that I had no control over. (Now I just twitch a tiny bit… And sometime even shout with joy!)
This year, God is truly showing me what it looks like to live a “Rich Life,” specifically in the realm of truth and leadership. While I have always joked that I work for “Jesus dollars,” I am finding new abundance with every act of obedience to Him.
And guess what? That abundance is absolutely not limited to people with a “title” behind their name or a rank on their sleeve.
In fact, Christ could care less about our titles. He just wants our faithfulness. He will handle the results. (Note to self…)
I’ve shared this before: all of us are ministers in some regard, whether that’s to a body of 100 military spouses, an online community, a home group, our family or our neighborhood.
As ministers, we will be at some point be called to lead… Even if it’s simply leading our three-year-old in prayer at the supper table.
Dear sisters, I want to encourage you today to be obedient to whatever God is calling you to do. Maybe He wants you to serve in a new position that makes your stomach drop and head spin. Perhaps He’s telling you to go ahead and start sketching out some plans for that nonprofit business venture He placed on your heart. Maybe the Lord is simply telling you to take your children just a little deeper with Him.
Whatever it is, be obedient. Because there we find that His gift of grace becomes even visibly abundant to us.
His real love leads to a rich life. Right now. Especially when it comes to leadership riches for His glory.
Called for Christ,
“Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.” ~Psalm 31:3
