Keep It Down In There! (Five Minute Friday)

Hey all.

Tis Friday. Specifically, tis Five Minute Friday.

Today, I link-up with Lisa-Jo Baker for a writing exercise of epic proportions. She gives us a prompt. Then we write. For five minutes flat. No over thinking. No nit-picking. Just write.
Five Minute Friday

So let’s get this par-tay started, shall we?

Today’s prompt: QUIET

Anddd GO!

Quiet used to be a dirty word for me.

“Sharita, BE QUIET!” This was quite the profanity to a little girl who, given the chance, would talk your ear off. I liked loud. I liked fun. I liked activity.

I despised quiet.

But over the years, especially now– I have come to appreciate the quiet.

It is in those serene quiet moments when I can hear God’s voice most clearly. It’s when my sweet drill sergeant husband has gone to work for 20+ hours at his job as a drill sergeant (like today) and it’s just me the pup left at home to our own devices.

The TV is off. I shut Pandora down. And just sit. In the quiet.

Sounds awesome, right? Well, it is… Most of the time.

However, there’s other issues of “loudness” that I have to combat when I’m trying to find my happy place in God’s presence.

There’s the voices. Specifically: My voice and the enemy’s voice. See, I’m a thinker. And sometimes my thinking is so blessed loud I can’t, well, hear myself think. (Does that even make sense?) God is not a yeller. He is loving and gentle, so He is willing to wait for me to tell my inner voice self-talk to “KEEP IT DOWN IN THERE!”

The same goes for The Enemy. He is out to kill, steal and destroy. He doesn’t want me sitting in the quiet, finding peace and communing with God. The voices, lies and distractions swirl. But I have to tell the enemy something similar: “Knock it off, jerkface. Keep it down in there!!”

No matter how many times I have to remind myself (or others) to keep it down… God is always waiting for me. And His peace abounds.

STOP!

What distractions do you face when you try to seek the Lord in the peace and quiet? Do you get a chance to sit in the quiet with Him daily? If not, what steps can you take to try and make that happen?

I always love hearing from you… Holla at me by leaving a comment below.

Enjoy peace in His quiet,
