Hidden Ah-Ha’s: Starting out Popular

So, I have to admit that I wasn’t really “popular” in high school. (Shocker, right? You would think that with my love of inky pens and new school supplies, I woulda been a shoo-in…)

Honestly, I didn’t really want to be popular.  Because even in a high school graduating class of 18 (yes, 18!) people, the popular kids always seemed to be dealing with more trouble than their “social status” was worth. (Sidenote: Nothing against the popular kiddos, especially if that included you. 🙂 )

I was friends with pretty much everyone but sure wasn’t fashionable or the party gal or the most entertaining. (Heck, I’m still none of those almost 10 years later. Ha.)

After a while, though, the “popular crowd” would usually lose some of their… um, popular-ness.  Maybe it was because someone new moved into town or we all went our separate ways after graduation. Nowadays, those individuals are still valued and loved (as they should be) but people’s love for them has deepened in a new, rich kind of way.

So here’s my point. (You knew I would get to it eventually…) The idea of the “popular crowd” relates to our new Monday series here at 7 Days Time: The Hidden Ah-Ha’s of the Bible.

Today, we address the “popular crowd” of Bible verses before we dig into our hidden, less well-known ah-ha verses.

The “popular crowd” of Bible verses are just that– popular… You know ’em, you love ’em, you probably even have them on a sign in your living or on a bookmark in your journal.

They are incredibly powerful and remind us of God’s love. The popular verses, just like ALL verse in the Bible, are inspired AKA “God-breathed.”

And I couldn’t very well skip over some of the classics before we embark on our Hidden Ah-Ha treasure hunt next week.

Think about some of your favorite verses. Oftentimes, folks share the following as their favs:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” ~John 3:16

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” ~Jeremiah 29:11

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” ~Romans 8:28

“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” ~Philippians 4:13

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” ~Proverbs 3:5-6

Again, these verses are very powerful, very important, very loving and certainly must be acknowledged.

But they are only the beginning.

In the coming weeks, we are going to be digging much deeper into His Word, searching for verses that aren’t necessarily on bumper stickers and signs in our living room. We will discover hidden gems of the most wonderful Love Story ever written.

Take time this week to think about some of the more popular verses, perhaps some of them listed above.  Which one(s) is/are your favorite? And what are you most looking forward to in this new series? Any hidden ah-ha verses you want to see included in the new series?  Don’t be shy– comment below.

So grab your tea/coffee/soda/beverageofchoice, get into some comfy clothes… and get ready to explore some of the beautiful Hidden Ah-Ha’s of His Word.

Hidden in Him,

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” ~Hebrews 4:12
