When I got married, I realized there was a lot of adjusting to be done.
I had to adjust to sharing the bed. I had to adjust to cooking for what seemed like an army. I had to adjust to ridiculously mind-numbing television programs.
But even more than that… I had to adjust to my new last name.
For the first several months, it took a lot of concentration to make sure I signed with my new name instead of my maiden name.
Let’s just say I used a lot of white out for a while.
It has been several years since Barn and I got hitched, but a couple of months ago, I was multitasking at our homegroup, trying to sign a covenant agreement and carry on a conversation at the same time. I scribbled my signature down, the glanced at the paper.
I had signed my maiden name instead of my married name.
Maybe I was tired and distracted, but all I can say is apparently old habits die hard.
Our personal signatures have a lot of power. When we sign something we are essentially saying, “Yes I approve/agree/commit to” whatever it is we are signing.
God’s signature is the same way.
And He has placed his signature on everything and everyone in this world.
Have you ever looked at a piece of art? Usually in the bottom righthand corner sits the author’s signature.
God’s signature is on every piece of His artwork too… Including you.
That’s right, dear friend, you read it right– YOU are God’s Masterpiece. He created you with a purpose and stamped you with his seal of love and approval saying, “Yep, that one– she/he is mine. I approve. I love. I created. That is my masterpiece.”
How. Cool. Is. That.
Everything about you God created with a purpose and signed off on you with love. Every fly way hair, every pimple, every jiggly section of your hind parts, every, jagged toe nail, every imperfection is simply part of a unique, perfectly and divinely created Masterpiece of God.
His signature is on you.
And His signature is on everything in this world that brings us joy, that challenges us, that draws us near to Him.
His signature is everywhere. And in that Signature, we find the promise of Christ.
Jesus in our Everyday.
Do you believe that? Do you believe God has placed his signature on you like an artist signing a masterpiece? What excites or encourages you about that thought? I would love to hear all about it. Join the conversation and leave a comment.
Next time you are analyzing your face a little to close in the mirror or are ready to throw up your hands in frustration at your current circumstance, remember that God has placed his seal of approval on you and everything that happens to you.
You are His Masterpiece. His signature is present when we find Jesus in our everyday.
You are bound into an unbreakable, love-motivated covenant that gives a promise of an eternity with Him.
Think of God signing you, loving you, approving you every time you write your own unique signature, be it scribbly and barely legible or elegant and flowing.
Because God designed you with purpose. And is proud of His creation in you and the creation around you.
Drink it in… And allow him to continue to leave His signature on the dotted line that is your life.
Signed in Christ,
“When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit…” ~Ephesians 1:13
