Faith: Do I have enough? #WilcoWednesday

Welcome to Wilco Wednesday! If you are a new around these parts, “Wilco” is Army-speak for “Will Comply.” Think of it as saying “Roger, God. Got it. Will do.”  So that is what Wednesday here at 7 Days Time is all about– exploring his decrees and seeking guidance for what complying with Him looks like in everyday life. The best part? He loves us for who we are, not what we do.  Remember: He doesn’t want perfection, just obedience. Share. Enjoy. Interact. And let’s respond to God’s call with  a hearty “Wilco, Lord!”  Welcome today my wise and loving friend, Katharina as she shares her heart with us.

Have you ever wondered how some people have faith that can move a mountain? I have! It seems to me that my faith is overshadowed more with doubt than anything else.

I would like to introduce to you George Müller (1805-1898). He opened up his heart and house to serve the orphans in Bristol, England. He and his wife started their ministry in their house with a Breakfast Club that began with 30 orphans, eventually growing to five large houses, which ultimately served over ten thousand children (Benge, J. & H., 1999, George Müller, The Guardian of Bristol’s Orphans).

Before he started the orphanage he said that he would NOT ask for any donations! Everything from shoes, to food, to an architect, was provided by God through prayer. In his lifetime George Müller had over 50,000 prayers answered by God (Benge, J. & H., 1999, George Müller, The Guardian of Bristol’s Orphans).

He wrote in his journal that he believed building an orphanage was God’s idea, and therefore, as long as he did all he could, it was ultimately God’s responsibility to make the dream a reality.

Faith EnoughHow much do we believe in the dreams and ideas God purposefully puts into our hearts?

Personally, I am the first to doubt any ideas or dreams God puts into my heart. My doubt causes me to waver and hesitate a lot, to the point of getting depressed and losing sight of what God wants me to accomplish. I am like a little boat tossed by the waves back and forth.

James 1:6 (New International Version) says: “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”

Let us take a closer look at two words and their meaning in Greek (or more if you like at your own time… 🙂  ).

Believe = Faith: Greek: 4102 pistis

Doubt = Greek: 1252 diakrinó
“be persuaded, come to trust” “going back and forth”
“Faith is always a gift from God and never something that can be produced by people”. Negatively: “overjudging”, hesitate, waver
“God continually births faith in the yielded believer, so that you and I can know what God’s preferred will is”.

When we doubt, we hesitate and waver from our God given dreams and we slowly lose faith and give up.

Faith means: “God’s divine persuasion”

We “overjudge” the situation based on our limited human understanding and not based on God’s supernatural nature.

How can you and I change our doubting nature?

  • We can pray to God and patiently wait for his answer
  • We can ask God for a confirmation through a sign, prophetic word, dreams, etc.
  • We can ask others to pray for us
  • Read God’s word daily and meditate on specific verses the Lord gives us
  • We can stand firm and trust God with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).

Finally, standing firm on God’s dream (even if it’s seems impossible and people say you cannot do it) for you and doing everything possible we can to follow it – and giving God the “permission or control” to do his part as well.

In the end, we will realize that our part is tiny in comparison to God’s ultimate plan for all human kind.

I encourage you to pray about your God given dreams and ideas, however; when doubt enters your thoughts capture them and give them back to God, where they belong.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV) says: “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Remember: Worry, anxiety, doubt, and hesitation, will steal your God given destiny from you. Remind yourself daily that you have enough FAITH, because it is God’s gift to you!
