Here’s a riddle for you:
Most people want this, but often it is hard to find. When we get it, it isn’t enough. We have to act, because without action, it doesn’t exist.
The answer is courage.
Courage is so important that it is often woven throughout movies, stories and even our everyday life conversations.
In the Wizard of Oz, the Cowardly Lion wanted courage… but turns out, he had it all the time.
And the same thing goes for us when it comes to having courageous faith.
Over the next several weeks, I am going to spend some time digging into the essential ingredients to take a leap of faith, specifically how courage pertains to our walk with Jesus.
Since this is the series intro, let’s start at the beginning.
I remember when I first started following Jesus at the age of twelve. My stomach was in knots as I somehow made my way to the altar at Vacation Bible School. My flesh was scared. But my heart for Jesus gave me courage.
When I recommitted to Christ in the hardest season of my life, I was feeling broken, alone, scared… But something deep inside of me gave me the courage to act on faith.
As I walked down the aisle, dressed in wife to meet my Uniform-Clad soldier at the altar, I thought I was going to pass out. But somehow I made it. We said yes. And that courage continues every morning when we wake up next to each other and even when an ocean separates us for a season.
When drove myself to the emergency room, 10 weeks pregnant, knowing I would never meet our baby this side of heaven… Courage got me there safely and helped me to recover to try again.
That second time when two little pink lines appeared on the stick… Courageous faith led me down a path of joy that kept my anxiety at bay.
The moment when her squeals carried through the delivery rooms and my husband and I peered at her for the first time, my faith-soaked courage showed me how to raise her up in the way she should go.
Courage is a vital component when we are walking with Jesus. Because if we don’t need courage to follow Him, we probably aren’t following Him as closely as we should.
So friend, consider this: When was the last time you had to dig deep for courageous faith to walk where Jesus was leading? I encourage you to be courageous (#SeeWhatIDidThere) and share below in the comments.
I am so excited to share this “Courageous faith” series. I have a feeling that some of topic might be a little challenging, but hey… That’s why we have Courage in Christ, right?
Saying Yes Courageously to Him,
“Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you.” ~Deuteronomy 31:6 MSG
