Factor of 7: Barrett Keene & Go Walk America

I remember when I first met Barrett Keene.

It was May 2002. (UG. That was nearly 10 years ago. HOW did we get this old?) I had just finished my sophomore year of high school My friend Melissa and I were sitting in McCain Auditorium in Manhattan, Kansas at  State FFA convention. Some dude poked his head into our row and  started a conversation. [Read more…]

Change and Chocolate Mousse

I’ve always heard that change is inevitable… except from a vending machine. Ain’t that the truth? (Yes, I said ain’t. I’m being grammatically lazy today.)

Change IS going to happen in all parts of life: family, weather, jobs, circumstances, finances, our age… everything. If it is such a common occurence, why do we fear it so much? [Read more…]

Faith by the Foot

Hey you. Yeah… you.

Wanna know a secret? C’mere. Lean in close…

Ready? I have a tattoo.

Oh. Are you not impressed? Dang. If you knew how much I hated needles, you should be blown away by this statement. But honestly, it isn’t much a of a secret. After all… the foot-tattoo story made it into my engagement pictures, the wedding ceremony and even into a class I was presenting about spiritual gifts a couple of weeks ago. (Glad my boss didn’t fire me for that one.) [Read more…]

Crazy Little Thing Called Love

Some people might say I am little bit crazy.

Nuts. Loco. Bonkers. Ridic.

And I have to say in some regards, I kind of agree with them. After all…

  • I did go to my senior prom wearing duct tape in an attempt to win a scholarship.
  • I graduated from Missouri Auction School as an auctioneer… just because. (And yes, I have the diploma to prove it.)
  • I participated in Polar Bear Plunge (aka, jumping in a frozen lake in February.) Three times. On purpose. [Read more…]

Blow Your Circuits

“Ok, I have 13 minutes to finish blow drying and straightening my hair, slap on some make-up, throw my shoes on and be in the car. I can do this. Everything is fine… “POP! (Cue the moment when the surrounding area goes dark.) Fantastic. WHAT HAPPENED? As I fumble around in the dark, I realize, that I blew a breaker because of overloading the circuits. SIGH. Patience is…

Patience is…

Annoying? Impossible? Frustrating? A struggle? A virtue?

Pretty sure my opinion of “patience” has covered all of these descriptors– and more. I have never been a very patient person (Ahem, see yesterday’s post…)

Seriously, as a little girl, I didn’t just want things to happen now, I wanted them to happen yesterday… HURRY UP! The most dreaded words coming out of my Mama’s mouth (then and to this day) rivaled “Wait until your father gets home” in the form of “You are just going to have to wait and see…” followed by “Patience is a virtue.” [Read more…]

Not-So-Hide And Seek

“…97…98…99…100! READY OR NOT, HERE I COME!!!”

Oh, those were the days. <Insert nostalgic sigh here> I remember those fun games of hide and seek, playing with friends, kids in the neighborhood, at school on the playground or on the farm with just my little sister and I. That rush of trying to find an ingenious hiding place… heart pounding… adrenaline pumping… waiting to see if you were found or you could find them (depending on your current “it” status.) Look Sharp Out There!

Greetings World O’Technology. I am back. You might have been curious as to where I have been the last couple of days. (Oh wait? You didn’t notice? Well, for the sake of this post, let’s pretend you did 😉 Anywho, I temporarily disappeared. No writing. Minimal productivity for three whole days. And not because I was unmotivated. Not because I didn’t have anything to write about (believe you me, there are enough little thought bubbles floating around in my head for a lifetime of blogposts– quantity vs quality perhaps?) What did I do on my brief sabbatical? I took some time to “Sharpen the Saw.” [Read more…]
