Parenting Bingo (Humorous Printable)

It’s no secret… Parenting is one of the most awesomely-blessed-pull-your-hair-out-epically-rewarding challenges of our lives.

And some days, the only thing that is going to get us all to bedtime is my sense of humor, coffee and Jesus. (Not in that order, of course.) [Read more…]

God’s Sense of humor: Giant Spiders

The last several months, God had kind of nudge me to take 7 Days Time in a slightly different direction. (I wrote all about it here if you need to catch up.)

And so, in a quest to be obedient, I am trying to be a little less serious (about stuff that doesn’t matter) and a little more light-hearted about all things life.

(Side note: I am still super-dee-duper serious about this Jesus thang. Hence, why it is part of our tag line: “Serious about faith. Light-hearted about life.”)

I’ve been sharing more funny everyday things/thoughts/conversations on Facebook in order to bring some brightness or entertainment in what seems to be a rather serious (and sometimes disheartening) fallen world in which we live. (Are you here yet Jesus? Anytime now, eh?)  [Read more…]

9 Humorous Holiday Hacks

The holidays are looming.

Some of you out there have already made your list, checked it twice and bought gifts for all those who have been naughty and nice. I know folks who have their holiday meals planned with grocery lists at the ready. Others have already began creating a magnificent Pinterest centerpiece with hopes that guests will talk about it for centuries to come.

If you fall into that category, more power to you sister. (You should invite us over for Christmas. I will bring a store-bought veggie tray. And maybe some Wal-Mart cupcakes.)

I like beautiful Christmas décor. I love eating delicious food. But girls, we are army wives. Managing Household 6 is enough without adding more hoopla to our holiday plate. Society’s Pinterest expectations can only be met when the army/kids/hubs are all in sync.

Around our house, sometimes the only things “in sync” are the dirty dishes. #SeeWhatIDidThere?

If you ever celebrate the holidays at our house and everything is magazine-ish-styled-gourmet-matchy-matchy, just assume my dormant craft/cooking skills blossomed after one too many cups of eggnog.

Perhaps you identify. If so, never fear.  I have found a way to work smarter instead of harder this holiday season.  All it takes is a bit of creativity, a great sense of humor and refined excuse-making skills.

Now presenting: 9 Humorous Holiday Hacks

Holiday_Hacks1. “Arrrggghhh!! I am almost done wrapping these gifts but am four inches short of having enough paper. The stores are closed and I have to give this gift tomorrow.”
Hack: Use newspaper, old magazines, or even the kid’s used coloring book pages if you are desperate. If anyone questions your methods, simply say that you decided to “Go Green.”

2.“I tried a new recipe and it tastes funky. It is still edible and safe for consumption (I think), but definitely tastes weird.”
Hack: Tell everyone that you wanted to “experiment” with a new type of eating like Vegan or Whole30. If you don’t want to risk them calling you out (“Wait, Paleo doesn’t use cheese and this thing is smothered in it!”) claim that you are trying to eat “healthier” or that the dish is a “tradition” passed down for 35 generations. If you are really feeling salty, invent a new type of cuisine on the spot. Do this by spelling your favorite holiday food backward and stating it is from your favorite country. “Yeah, this is called yekrut from Morocco.”

3. “I gave my sister a pair of blaze orange Crocs and it was just awkward.”
Hack: When a gift is not well-received, always have a sentimental story on standby. “Sis, don’t you remember when we went to the zoo as kids? You were wearing an orange blazer and your favorite animals were the crocodiles.”

Want to read the rest of the list? Pop on over to Army Wife Network to check it out.

What humorous holiday hacks would you add to the list? I would love to hear from you. Feel free to leave a comment.

Hang onto these hacks and before you know it, everyone will want to know your “secrets” for a stress-free, seamless holiday season. #IsItNewYearsYet?

Laugh A Little

Don't be afraid to get close and crack up.

Don’t be afraid to get close and crack up. Even if you have boogers on your face.

“Don’t take life too seriously because you won’t get out of it alive.”

I have heard that saying multiple times. It is plastered on Pinterest, bumper stickers and even T-shirts.

Although following Jesus is serious business, it isn’t supposed to be monotonous or boring. God created laughter for a reason.

How often are we intentionally engaging the gift of laughter?

I try to do so on a regular basis. Admittedly, I have my seasons where I forget, put my serious pants on and face each day with an intense grimace… Until my hubs reminds me to lighten up and enjoy the ride.

I want to pass that onto others– even if it might make me look a little goofy or make someone feel bit awkward.  [Read more…]

Jesus’ Funniest Videos

Let’s all be honest… Sometimes life is HILARIOUS.

I grew up watching America’s Funniest Home Videos (originally with Bob Saget.) While I never really understood why people thought that dudes getting hit in their uh, nether regions was so funny, I still enjoyed it. Plus it was relatively family friendly.

For me, most of the funniest things came from young kids.

Which brings me to share with you some of the hilarious things I did when I was younger. (Too bad we didn’t get them on tape. Maybe we would be a few thousand bucks richer?) [Read more…]

Up In Smoke

A little over a week ago, I had a moment. Here’s the back story…

Brandon and I both had a crazy week… my beloved was working ridiculous hours since it was his duty week as Senior Drill Sergeant (See: really early mornings, late/tiring nights) and I was running like a lunatic trying to keep up with more church activities/duties than anticipated.

Our backyard needed to be mowed. It is a small, little yard and we really can’t justify spending a couple-hundred bucks on buying a mower… If we play our cards right, we only need to mow about once a month anyways. When we have “time” we borrow a mower from our sweet neighbors. [Read more…]

Keeping it Real (Five Minute Friday)

Waawhoo! It’s one of my top five blogging days of the week. (Oh wait… I blog five days a week… Nevermind.) It’s Five Minute Friday, folks. Long story short, each Friday I link up with The Gypsy Mama. She gives us a prompt and we write. Yep, for five minutes. No overthinking. No editing. No quest for perfectionism. Just write.

So without further ado, let’s get this party started.

Today’s prompt: REAL.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love

Some people might say I am little bit crazy.

Nuts. Loco. Bonkers. Ridic.

And I have to say in some regards, I kind of agree with them. After all…

  • I did go to my senior prom wearing duct tape in an attempt to win a scholarship.
  • I graduated from Missouri Auction School as an auctioneer… just because. (And yes, I have the diploma to prove it.)
  • I participated in Polar Bear Plunge (aka, jumping in a frozen lake in February.) Three times. On purpose. [Read more…]

Born to be Wild

Sometimes, you just need to slow down… and laugh.

This week has been surprisingly bonkers for me. What I though was going to be relatively chill since I am on “school break” for a week became working overdrive at home and work. But hey it’s Friday… So why not take a few moments to CHILLAX and laugh?

I am a big fan of animals. In fact, I was planning on being a veterinarian until midway through my junior year of college when I discovered that I work even better with people than I do with animals. (That would have been handy info two chemistry classes and one and half physics classes prior. SIGH) But in my attempt to relax and enjoy what I hope to be a calm(er) Friday, I wanted to briefly share with you some “animal fun.” [Read more…]

The Best Medicine

I love to laugh. It doesn’t matter what kind of laugh– a small chuckle, a loud obnoxious snort, or a stomach-shaking-ribs-hurting-can’t-breath-tears-rolling all out hoot. It is such a release.

I’ve mentioned it  before, but there are a lot of things in this world that I have to ponder/laugh about. Sure, I could choose to be upset and frustrated at things I don’t understand, but instead I decide to just chalk it up to the “Only God Knows” category. I really do have a list of things to ask God when I get to heaven. Yes, some are very deep and theological, but I have been reflecting the last couple of days on  things of a lighter nature. I really believe that God has an incredible sense of humor– like what is the deal with Mondays? Or the platypus? And what is the purpose of the University of Kansas Jayhawks? (Just kidding. But seriously…) [Read more…]
