My husband is a funny man.

We were chatting one day, talking about life, writing, Jesus, when suddenly he said this:

“You know, Sharita… Even though you went to seminary, you should always remember that I am well versed in apologetics because I am always apologizing to you for something ridiculous I have done.”

I laughed for like an hour. (Ok, maybe not an hour, but it was a good hearty laugh which I desperately needed.)

So today, per my husband’s hilarity, we are going to have a crash course in apologetics. [Read more…]

Why Jesus Needed an Eraser for His Pencil (#EverydayJesus Linkup)

Do you ever make mistakes?

If you answered no to this question, then you are excused. (And might I recommend Googling the phrase “honesty is the best policy?”)

For all the rest of us normal folks, the answer to that question is probably, “Heck yes, I make mistakes.” I know that I is my answer. I make mistakes dozens of times in a single day. And not just the “huge” mistakes like yelling at the dog or getting ticked at my Beloved husband for a miscommunication issue. But even the small stuff. Like misspelling a word. (I actually misspelled the word “misspell” til my computer lit up and reminded me it has two S’s.)

As a writer, I make tons of mistakes. Most of them you (hopefully?) don’t see because I delete words or sentences, utilize spell check and read through a post before I push publish. [Read more…]

There’s something you should know about me.

I’m not the biggest fan of heights. Perhaps I should be more specific: I’m not the biggest fan of “risky” heights.

I can fly in a plane with little worries. I can climb a mountain (A medium sized-one, anyways. This postpartum bod can only do so much.)  I’ve been to the top of the Sears Tower and St. Louis Gateway Arch and managed not to flip out.

But when it comes to open air high-flying adventures? Um, yeah. No thanks. It’s gonna be a cold day in Orlando before you catch me jumping out of an airplane at 30,000 feet. (Sidenote: I know it can get cold in Orlando– the one time I was there, it frosted. So skydiving IS on my bucket list, but if I ever do it, it will not be premeditated, but rather a spur-of-the-moment-let-me-down-I’ve-changed-my-mind kind of thing.) [Read more…]

Jesus has done some pretty incredible miracles.

In the Bible, we read about Him turning water into wine, healing the sick, raising the dead.

Every now and then, He graces our household with a seemingly impossible miracle too.

He occasionally brings my husband and I to agreement on a movie to watch. [Read more…]

It has been SUCH an incredible blessing to build, grow and host 7 Days Time ministry the past couple of years.

We’ve been able to write (a lot!), serve through our Factor of 7 experiences, pray, coach, encourage and hook folks up with some coolio Jesus freebies.

Everyday Jesus: Adopted by Christ

Today, I am blessed to introduce you to my neighbor (literally– she lives next door!) who loves Jesus and is on quite a faith-journey. Meet Mindy. She and her husband Roger are building a family– which requires them to seek out Jesus Everyday. God has recently impressed on my heart how He is my covering. I’m counted as blessed because I get to take shelter in him. He’s showing me how He longs for me to come under His protection and allow Him to shield me from damaging elements in this world. If I seek shelter in Him, He will guide me to do things that I once feared. Under this protection, He’s also teaching me to step out of my comfort zone. [Read more…]

I was incredibly afraid of taking them to another funeral.  I was afraid to watch them bury yet another great-grandparent.  I was afraid that they would fail to see the hope and the life and concentrate solely on the deadness, on the vacant body, on the loss.

But Mama Gal, or Mrs. Mavis to some, she didn’t plan to go out without reminding everyone for whom she lived.  And how can you instruct people to talk about your faith without imparting the hope that comes with the name of Jesus Christ? [Read more…]
