When It Pours…

We are currently stationed at Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington.

Washington is known for several things: temperate climate, massive amounts of coffee shops, and of course– rain.

Hubs and I love it here. The rain doesn’t  bother us too much because really, we don’t get MORE rain than most places, it just falls more frequently. Typically just a small, gentle drizzle. Rarely is the rain a show stopper. #IfItsRainingWeAreTraining [Read more…]

The Green Dream (And How To Tame It)

I think most of us have a certain “color” we just look good in. You know what I am talking about. That color that just makes our eyes pop, our hair gleam, our hips look like we didn’t eat that entire bag of Dove chocolate in the bathtub last night.

And no, it isn’t black.

My color is green. This revelation was rather odd to me, because green really isn’t my favorite color. (Infantry blue, baby! #America)

But for some odd reason, green just works on me. [Read more…]

Keeping the Home Fire Burning (Army Wife Network)

My husband is an infantryman.

I believe he chose this MOS because of the opportunity to serve, the thrill factor and challenge that comes with boots-on-the-ground-kicking-in-doors-and-taking-names.

Plus, he loves the color blue.

Recently, however, I have learned another interesting piece of his genetic soldier make-up.

He loves the infantry because he secretly harbors a desire to be the next Bear Grylls– you know, that super-intense guy with the TV show “Man vs. Wild?” Yeah, I am married to a wannabe-that.

Which makes family camping tricks  very frustrating  interesting. [Read more…]

Celebrating Everyday Army Miracle Moments

Army Celebrate_FotorIf you have been an army wife for more than 35 seconds, you have probably already discovered that this crazy ride is, well, crazy.

Somedays it makes us happier than a five-year-old at Christmas… then a few moments later, we crumble into big, smoldering pile of ugly-crying heartbreak.

It can be exhausting, I tell you. In my personal journey as a wife of my beloved infantry man, my emotions have stretched enthusiastic optimistic to Debbie-Downer pessimistic of epic proportions. [Read more…]

Go for the Goal

Goal AWN

It comes around every 365 days.

We gather up the remnants of the Christmas decorations and pray that all of the stuff fits back in the box. We reflect. We hope. We dream about all things new. Specifically, the New Year.

Many people make resolutions to ring in the New Year. Personally, resolutions don’t do much for me because they just seem so… Disposal. Thirty-three seconds after I make a resolution, my resolve fails and instead of hitting the treadmill at the gym, I am raiding the cabinets looking for a treat.

Due to my achieving nature, I like to speak a language that I embrace, which is why I forego the stereotypically short-lived resolutions. I set goals.   [Read more…]

5 Steps of Personal Growth

Tall GrassGrowing up is hard to do.

Seems like a pretty obvious statement but hey… We probably all need to be reminded every now and again.

Some folks might think that “growing” stops when we reach a certain age or milestone, perhaps when we turn 18, graduate college, get married, have kids, retire from the military or become empty nesters.

But when it comes right down to it, the most content, fulfilled and successful people are going those who be grow their entire lives.

I don’t know about you, but I definitely want to be in that category of “personal growers.”

So today, I am sharing five powerful, necessary steps of personal growth. [Read more…]

Attitude of Gratitude 365 (#EverydayJesus Link Up)

Welcome to another week of our Everyday Jesus link-up. Be sure to link-up below this post, comment on your neighbor’s blog and share with your friends… Because Jesus is everywhere, every day!

***

Attitude of Gratitude 365I would say that for the most part, I am a pretty optimistic, positive person.

But honestly, I have my days where that is SO not the case.

I try to look on the bright side of things, but on the days when this army-wife-life is extra challenging, my attitude changes from positive to negative quicker than you can say “Wait… the army wants us to do what now?”

However, I have learned that having a positive attitude is one of the best ways not only to survive this roller coaster ride that is loving a soldier, but it is a key to thrive.

With a little practice, we can keep ahold of that positive outlook by training ourselves to have an attitude of gratitude, 365 days a year. [Read more…]

Proper Planning Prevents…

Proper Planning PreventsPlanning is a beautiful thing. I learned this many years ago.

It makes life less stressful, brings joy and organization and equips us to be on our “A” game.

And then I married into the military, where plans typically seem “tentative” at best and some days last a max of 33 seconds before they change again.

Not going to lie… This sometimes drives me bonkers. And makes me a little bit twitchy.

We have probably all heard the saying “Proper Planning Prevents Potentially Poor Performance.” (And yes, I changed the 4th “P” word to make it a bit more blog appropriate. But you get my drift.) [Read more…]

Not-So-Serious Business (Army Wife Network)

In every single one of my husband’s professional army pictures, he looks so…  Angry.  (You thought I was going to say handsome, didn’t you? He does look handsome, but in a grouchy kind of way.)

I know, I know—it is kind of the culture. Our men in the army are tough guys and these photos are professional purposes, not for posting obnoxious selfies on Facebook to Twitter or for saving as our phone wallpaper.

Although I tease him about the intensity of his pictures, I have a slight confession to make: Sometimes I approach life the same way.

Don’t get me wrong, I love to smile. And in my “natural” environment, I am a giggly, bubbly person. But sometimes I allow myself to get bogged down with the “seriousness” of life. Then my attitude looks more somber and scary than even my hubby’s drill sergeant photo.

And nobody wants to see THAT. #Terrifying

So today, we need to talk about some not-so-serious business:  Life. Laughter. And how they can work together.

Not so serious business
