What is your most memorable moment of anticipation?
You know, those times when you were so excited that you literally couldn’t sleep? Or when you would think about an upcoming experience and your heart would race?
I had a majority of those experiences when I was younger. (Something about the responsibility of adulting that makes care-free anticipation more difficult… but I am working on it…)
Like when I was eight-years-old, staying the night in Sedalia, Missouri before going to the State Fair the next day.
Or Christmas Eve. (Any age on this one!)
Or that one time in High School when I was the Student Council rep for the 9th grade, and the next day I was allowed to skip class to decorate for homecoming. (And by decorate, I mean staple card stock letters to a piece of spray painted plywood and drape tulle from the basketball goal, because in a high school of 80 students, beggars can’t be choosers.)
Now, as a big kid/married woman/mom/etc, I have less of those anticipation-laden events in my life.
Well, maybe that’s not an accurate statement. Those moments of anticipation have transitioned into something deeper.
That anticipation now exists in my spiritual life. Events, occasions, transformations that make my insides jiggly and brain race, and heart flutter.
That’s what my One Word for 2016 is already doing for me.
To catch you up, this isn’t my first One Word Rodeo. Actually, it’s my fifth. Here were my words from the past:
I recently went on my annual ministry sabbatical for two blissful days away, just me and Jesus. And He confirmed my one word for 2016.
TRUTH.
This word is giving me that deep-fluttery-anticipationish-butterfly-feeling way down in my soul.
Kind of excited and scared. #YayYikes. Or as I like to say, thrillified (Thrilled and terrified combined.)
As of this moment of writing, I have a feeling its going to be a culminating year for my One Word journey. All my words continue to build on each other. Seriously, check it out:
TRUST in His TRUTH.
STAND in His TRUTH.
GROW in His TRUTH.
REST in His TRUTH.
Yep. I think thrillified covers it.
I was also reflecting on all of the additional verbs that could be associated with TRUTH. (Side Note: Truth is my first noun I have experienced for a One Word. That’s a grammar nerd thing for ya. #SorryNotSorry)
Seek Truth. Hear Truth. Speak Truth. Live Truth. Love Truth. Look for Truth. Engage in Truth. Believe Truth. Hope in Truth. Rejoice in Truth. Celebrate Truth. Embrace Truth.
The list goes on and on.
As I was choosing and subsequently sharing my One Word for 2016, a friend asked me how to “find” a word.
It’s simple. Just tune in to Jesus. Go for a walk. Get in your prayer closet. Open your eyes and heart. SEEK IT OUT. And He will show you.
Friends, do you have a One Word for 2016? I would love to hear it! (It is one of my absolute favorite things to talk about in this Jesus walk of ours.) Please share your word below in the comments.
I am very much looking forward to this year, mainly because God of course has proven so faithful over the last half decade to refine me through the One Word process. I encourage you to see if the Lord has a word for you to live out this year.
And I am so excited for you to join me in 2016 as I set out to dispel the lies and hide God’s truth, His Whole Truth and Nothing BUT the Truth, deeply within my heart.
Seeking Him,
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ~John 8:32
