From Fear to Faith#WilcoWednesday

Welcome to Wilco Wednesday! If you are a new around these parts, “Wilco” is Army-speak for “Will Comply.” Think of it as saying “Roger, God. Got it. Will do.”  So that is what Wednesday here at 7 Days Time is all about– exploring his decrees and seeking guidance for what complying with Him looks like in everyday life. The best part? He loves us for who we are, not what we do.  Remember: He doesn’t want perfection, just obedience. Share. Enjoy. Interact. And let’s respond to God’s call with  a hearty “Wilco, Lord!” Welcome my good friend Becca as she shares little something to encourage your heart… and face your fears!

“From ghoulies and ghosties, and long leggedy beasties, and things that go bump in the night, good Lord deliver us.”  -From an old English litany

Halloween is upon us again and with it, cold weather and long sweaters. I love this time of year. I love Halloween and I love dressing up. I love being warmed to the core by hot cider during an especially crisp Autumn day.

Also, I love being “scared” from not-too-spooky stories. Honestly, I am not one for watching truly scary movies anymore. The scariest I can handle is Vincent Price or the cult classics like Dracula, Wolfman, and Frankenstein. (Ok, and Beetlejuice.) Moreover, I believe there are too many truly scary things in this world to find much entertainment in a movie about supernatural stuff and people tearing one another apart.  This fallen world in itself is scary enough as it is!

So, on that note… Let’s talk about FEAR. (I know. Everyone’s favorite subject. Hang with me.) What do I fear? I fear many things, not the least of all on the list is being an ineffective tool for the Lord’s use.

“And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ They immediately left their nets and followed Him.”  -Matthew 4:18-19

Fear to Faith WWI share this scripture because I see the faith it must have taken for these men to leave their homes, families, and occupations. They followed because they believed. They didn’t let fear hold them back. They were obedient to the call and believed that they could be used. I struggle with this thought.

Yes, I know I’m a believer and follower of Christ, but what if He can’t use me as well as He can use other women? What if He never put a “calling” into my life? Most of us probably ask these questions.  we might feel unworthy to be used. But we are NOT alone.  I often have trouble calling out the lies, from the enemy that are wrapped up in what looks like truth. Here is a bit of TRUTH that is often hard for me to swallow.

“For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body- whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free- and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many. If the foot should say, “because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear should say, “because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole body were hearing, where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one of them in the body just as He pleased.”  -I Corinthians 12:12-18

Now, I know what you’re thinking, “OK, yeah, great. I’m definitely the armpit!” Sweet Sister, you are not, and if you are not, then I am not. Let’s delve into scripture together and call out the lies for what they are…. LIES! Here’s more, if you were meant to be a foot… OWN IT! You might be a little smellier, a little better worn than other members, but hey, God is using you to reach people.

I personally would LOVE to be a foot. Because that means I am going places for the glory of God.

Do you have the courage to allow God to use you? If not, how can you face that fear? We always welcome feedback. Join the conversation and leave a comment.

Take heart, dear reader. God knows what He is doing. And He doesn’t discount us if we are a little fearful or anxious to step out in faith to what He has called us to do. What He truly cares about is our courageous obedience. Lean on His truth today. Let Him take you from fearful to faithful.
