I Press On #WilcoWednesday

Welcome to Wilco Wednesday! If you are a new around these parts, “Wilco” is Army-speak for “Will Comply.” Think of it as saying “Roger, God. Got it. Will do.”  So that is what Wednesday here at 7 Days Time is all about– exploring his decrees and seeking guidance for what complying with Him looks like in everyday life. The best part? He loves us for who we are, not what we do.  Remember: He doesn’t want perfection, just obedience. Share. Enjoy. Interact. And let’s respond to God’s call with  a hearty “Wilco, Lord!”  Welcome today my wise and loving friend, Katharina as she shares her heart with us.

Couple months ago, in my spinning class, my instructor had a gym bag with the monogram “I press on” written on it. I noticed the bag during a hard incline workout in which I was almost inclined to give up. When I saw these three words, “I Press On”, they motivated me to give my best in this moment.

In Philippians 3:14, the Apostle Paul encourages us:

“I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us” (New Living Translation).

Paul describes the ultimate prize that we will receive when we “press on” in our daily lives and continue to follow Christ Jesus and his calling for our lives. Sadly, “pressing on” does not come naturally to me. Most of the time, ok every day, I end up realizing (usually in bed at night) how much time I have wasted during the day with keeping myself “busy” but not productive. I realize that I am further away from God’s calling rather than closer to it.

Press onHow can I/we continue to “press on,” even when we are not motivated or when our life is really hard?

Here are some pointers.

  1. Every day work on your goals and keep your vision/God’s calling in front of you so you can stay motivated to take the necessary actions that align with your calling for your life.
  2. Make choices that align with your calling and take responsibility for the choices you made in the past.
  3. To say “Yes” you need to learn how to say “No” to people, projects, and other demands in your life. It is easy to say “Yes” without thinking about the commitment and the consequences the new obligation might have on your life and your vision. Say “No” if the new obligation will take too much of your focus away from your calling for your life.

I encourage you to write down your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly goals for your life. Begin small and take one step at a time by focusing on saying “No” to obligations that take your focus of your ultimate calling in your life.

In what ways do you stay motivated to achieve your goals and ultimately your calling in your life? Feel free to comment,  I’d love to read about your techniques.

Oh. And press on, my sisters. Press on.
