H.O.P.E ~ He Offers Peace Everyday

Our society throws words around. I remember when I was a blossoming student leader in college, my advisor once called me out because I said “Awesome” as a response to  ev-ery-thinnnnggg.

She had a great point. “Sharita, when you say that everything is ‘awesome,’ eventually you overuse it and nothing is awesome. You cheapen the word.”

Oh snap. #IKnowRight?

Ever since that time, I have tried to  watch my words and use them accordingly. But unfortunately, the world in which we live  doesn’t exactly ascribe to that philosophy.

Don’t believe me? Let’s think about some powerful faith-filled words that get tossed around like a rubber dodge ball at recess.

The first word comes as no surprise: Love. When used in a Christian context, that is the most powerful word in existence. After all– God IS love. Love is the only language that transcends both heaven and earth. Love is what held Jesus to the Cross.

But when we use it in our everyday lives, it can become cheapened. I LOVE those shoes. I love Aunt Edna’s potato salad. I love the K-State Wildcats.

Now don’t get me wrong,  I am not saying that we shouldn’t use LOVE at all.  Because truth be know, I really am exceptionally fond of those KSU Wildcats. BUT… I am often convicted by just how frequently I toss “love” around as if it is just something inconsequential.

H.O.P.E

There are a lot of other words that fit into this toss-around category. Recently, I had a flashback of my student leader days when a fellow PWOC (Protestant Women of the Chapel) teacher called me out on my use of a particular word.

I bet you can figure out which word that was. (Spoiler: It was hope.) But there is a lot more to the story! Keep reading over at Wives of Faith.

So dear readers– in what areas of your life do you need to cling to this H.O.P.E on a more regular basis? Join the conversation and leave a comment.

Take some time to really marinate on this truth that He offers us H.O.P.E through peace.

All we have to do is extend our hand and accept it.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,  and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.” ~1 Peter 1:3-4a NIV
