As I write this, I am having one of those days.
Those days that I am just plain stinkin’ worn out. I’ve been doing this temporary single-mama army wife gig now for a few weeks while hubs is away in Georgia. I’ve been working out hard trying to reach some God-sized fitness goals. I’ve been writing like a crazy person.
I am weary. I need a nap. And by nap, I really mean one that is like a hundred hours long.
Perhaps you are there too. Tired. Weary. Needing a break. And a little dose of encouragement. Well friends, this is where 7 Days Time (and Jesus) come in.
I am digging down deep into my soul to find some energy to tell you what I need to hear. Fortunately, the heavenly Jesus doesn’t get tired and He never sleeps. But when He was here on earth incarnate, in His earthly body? You can bet that this influential, loving give-everything-he’s-got man got tired.
Here’s a few Scriptures to back it up.
“Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.” ~John 4:6
“Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.” ~Matthew 8:24
These are just a couple of examples of Jesus needing to recharge and physically get some rest. He was fully human and needed to eat, sleep and take care of Himself just like we do.
But here’s the cool thing. Even while He was resting, ministry was still going on… That’s where the “God-side” of Him came in.
Right after He began resting at the well, He met the Samaritan woman.
As He was sleeping on the boat, soon the disciples woke Him to calm the storm.
Not gonna lie… My life is a bit busy some days, but I totally wouldn’t want Jesus’ job. I’m tired just thinking about it!
He didn’t stop there. He also encourages us to come to Him when we are weary, tired and worn out. Check out these two awesome and encouraging Scriptures:
“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”~ Mark 6:31
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” ~Matthew 11:28-29
Can I get an AMEN?!? Friend, no matter what you have going on in your life, how much sleep you are (or aren’t) getting, Jesus understands. Call on Him.
If it’s possible, find a way to rest and recharge. (Believe-you-me, after this post is scheduled, I shall be going to lay down and take a nap while the baby naps.) Ask God to show you how you can rest. And if your schedule is just overfull and crazy, perhaps something needs to go. But if it’s just one of those seasons that things are going full speed ahead– pray for supernatural strength, energy, patience and little moments to recharge.
I totally understand where you are coming from. I’m there too sometimes. But Jesus also understands your challenges too. So embrace the fact with God’s help, we can let our feelings of being weary or tired still grow our faith and bring glory to God.
He’s the ultimate recharge. Seek Him. Love Him. Rest in Him.
He’s better than any nap you will ever take.
Weary but hopeful,
“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.” ~Psalm 62:1
