I am so excited for this vlog.
Is it my best, most professional work? Nope. But with my “special” guest, it sure is cute and entertaining. (Hint: My guest is 10 months old and likes to clap a lot. As you will soon notice.)
Over the last several months, I have really been praying about how to “balance” being a mama, wife, minister and all of the other roles God has called me to in life. Here’s a short video to share some of my insights.
Just in case you weren’t able to catch much from the adorable, wiggly, yellow, squeaky distraction in the video, here’s some of the take-homes when it comes to finding a Holy Balance.
1. View balance from a Godly perspective. As I mentioned in the video, we often make the mistake of viewing “balance” on a microscopic level– down to the minutes and hours. But to fully experience the holy balance He has for us, we have to take a step back and look at our lives in terms of weeks, months, seasons. Ask yourself: What can I do right now that would please God the most? It could be getting involved with your church at a deeper level. Or it could be shutting down all your electronic devices and playing tea party with your daughter on a Monday afternoon. View your schedule from His perspective.
2. Be obedient to what God is calling you to in the now. Immediate obedience is a great way to seek God and find balance. If He places something on your heart with urgency, do it and trust that in His big picture, it will balance out in the end. He knows what you are going through and knows where you will end up. He only has the best in mind for you. So trust Him with that.
3. Acknowledge that life has seasons… And that’s not a bad thing. If we try to approach all seasons of our lives with the same attitude or schedule, we are going to get frustrated (and exhausted!) in a hurry. God has made time for everything that is important to honor Him, including family, work, growth and rest. The amounts of these things vary in the seasons of our lives. And that is 100% OK.
4. If it’s a call from God, it’s Gods work. Seriously. It doesn’t matter if you are a parent (or not,) if you work (or not,) have tons of friends or outside responsibilities (or not.) If God has called you to a specific role, the TRUST Him with it. Seek Him out and discern what and how he wants you to accomplish your call.
In what areas of your life do you struggle with balance most? I would love for you to join the conversation (because I am sure you are not alone.) Leave a comment or click here if you are reading via email.
Take heart, dear friends. Finding a Holy Balance isn’t a systematic process. It’s not an exact science. The tide of balance will ebb and flow over seasons of life. But if we are staying in tune and obedient to God, we will find end up in a balanced state.
Where there is balance, there is peace. And where there is peace, there is Jesus.
Balanced in Christ,
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” ~Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV
