Great news, peeps. After a brief holiday hiatus, our friend Lisa-Jo Baker is back and hosting our weekly Five Minute Friday Link-Up party.
Here’s the skinny: Each week Lisa-Jo gives us a prompt. Then we write. No editing, no overthinking. For five minutes.
So without further chitchat (plus baby girl is about to wake up– talk about racing against the clock!) let’s get to it.
Today’s prompt: FIGHT
And GO!
***
When my sister and I were younger (see: teenagers and before) we would fight. Not like loving sister fighting. I mean FIGHT. (It wasn’t good and I’m not proud of it. We were both a little heiferish.)
Most of the time it was verbal from me, physical from my little sister… Until finally her pinching, scratching, hitting hit a boiling point then I felt the need to lay the smack down. This continued until we learned our lesson for good.
Mom could see that things were about to explode. We had just moved into a new house and she’d had enough of our junk. Looking up from cooking supper, she said lovingly, “Don’t get blood on the new carpet. If you are going to fight, take it outside.”
So we did. We were still in our swimming suits from summer shenanigans earlier that day… which wasn’t a problem until we realized that the spot we chose to fight/wrestle in was a patch of fireweed.
Long after we quit fighting, the marks still stung. (We are talking hours!)
Moral of the story: If you are going to fight, don’t do it in fireweed.
Other moral of the story: Fighting isn’t usually the best choice. But sometimes, it is necessary.
Year later, I still fight. I fight for strength on the long days of parenting. I fight Satan when he is attacking me full force. I fight to find love when I am frustrated beyond belief. I fight to press on when I want to quit. I fight for our ministry. I fight for our marriage.
I fight for my faith.
And I have learned that the best thing about fighting for my faith is that I am not in this fight alone. He’s got my back. Always.
We’ve got Jesus in our corner… And my money is on Him.
So dear friends, when the world is against you and you are ready to throw in the towel, take five in the corner with Christ. Get a second wind. And fight for Him!
STOP

Thoughts? I would love to hear from you. (Reading via email? Comment here.) Give me a shout out and let me know what you have to fight the most for and how your faith helps you in the that process. We are all in this together and have The Best Coach to help us through our daily struggles. He’s got your back. I promise.
Take heart and fight for Him.
Fighting to the finish,
“Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me.” ~Psalm 35:1 NIV
