I love to laugh. It doesn’t matter what kind of laugh– a small chuckle, a loud obnoxious snort, or a stomach-shaking-ribs-hurting-can’t-breath-tears-rolling all out hoot. Love me a good laugh.
Which brings me to this idea of how I ended up in ministry. I would be willing to bet that a majority of people wouldn’t think of “ministry” as a humorous experience. Yes, following Jesus is serious business and there are some pretty heavy situations we are often called to deal with…
But in the midst of it all, I don’t believe God is a fuddy-duddy. He isn’t up there sitting on His Heavenly throne waiting to wreak havoc on our lives.
I think Jesus likes to laugh too.
Which brings us to today’s #EverydayJesus truth:
God has a Sense of Humor
I know I have written about it before, like over here about “Jesus Funniest Videos.” But have your ever really stopped to think about the humor that is present in our everyday lives?
And I think those laughable little moments are not a mistake. I believe they are divinely appointed to give us joy, let some feel-good endorphins flow and downright enjoy this world God gave us.
There are a lot of laughable tidbits in this world that I have chuckled about or even giggled in pure disbelief at the ridiculousness of it all. Yes, I know God has a deep and profound purpose behind some of the crazy things we experience in this world, like learning to trust Him or understand His love. But I also believe the truth that God has an incredible sense of humor. Otherwise, how do explain things like Mondays? Or seriously, what is up with platypus? You can’t tell me God didn’t guffaw a little bit with that creation.
So in my quest to find some humor in #EverydayJesus experience, I brainstormed a quick (and slightly ridiculous) list of giggly tidbit questions to ask God someday when we have the heavenly equivalent of a Starbucks date. Hope this short list of light-hearted questions directed to God brings a slight smile to your face, and maybe even a little bit of joy to your heart.
- Why is popping bubble wrap so much fun? I mean really, I am an grown woman with a masters degree, husband and daughter… and could still spend an afternoon popping bubble wrap. I might even fight you for it. (Don’t worry. I fight fair. Most of the time.)
- Who invented panty hose and WHY? And why are they so stinkin’ fragile? One cross-eyed look and zippp– game over.
- Why can’t sweating during an outside work out be an indication of how hard you are working instead of the humidity level?
- What’s the deal with wet paint signs? I believe things like how many stars there are in the sky and how many calories are in a single Rolo (29 cals, FYI), but when I see a sign that says “Wet Paint” I have an irrepressible urge to touch it to make sure.
- Oh, and you can’t tell me that God didn’t have sense of humor when He created marriage. Seriously, what was up with that? Don’t get me wrong, I adore and love my husband with all my heart, but sometimes it fascinates me that God decided to create man and woman so incredibly differently then charge us to live in the company with one another for the duration of our time on earth. (I love you Brandon! 🙂
- Who thought it was a productive idea to create the color navy blue? I think it is a pretty color, but also believe it causes a lot of issues when one ends up pairing it with something black because the lightbulb was out in the bedroom closet.
- Who is Pete and why do people love him so much?
- Why do department store managers to create sales signs on the clothing racks that say “$1.99 (and up)?” Seems like it is pretty self-explanatory and it’s dancing on the border of misleading advertisement.
Where do you find your Jesus jollies and giggles in your everyday life? I would love to have a good laugh with you– leave your humorous thoughts in the comment section below.
And remember: Don’t take life too seriously. Even if you are in ministry. Because we aren’t getting out of here alive.
After all, God does have a pretty rockin’ sense of humor.
